A really nice space to have lots of different works of art that can appeal to many people of all ages. The man and woman who worked there were really nice and helpful too; Iâ¬"ve actually learnt a lot about countryside scenes and an artist called Edward Hersey so thatâ¬"s good on a personal level! What an ace gallery this is! St Martins College had their 3rd year exhibition work displayed here for a week and it looked brilliant. Wads and wads of secondhan and vintage books everywhere and depending on what he's just bought - you can find all sorts of treasure here. He specializes in music and keeps all that in the basement. If your a book hound, book-lover or bibliophile and in the are this is an interesting place to visit. A reminder of what bookshops used to like before the chains came in.Owwner Tim is a walking encyclopaedia of book knowledge and his shop reflects it. Only now do I realize how much of an omission it was.

The Collection is located in Hertoford House, a beautiful mansion in Manchester Square, in the heart of London. It contains mostly French XVII and XVIII century objets d'art, such as vases of Sevres porcelain, Titian portraits, seventeenth century bronze statuettes, XVIII and XIX century miniatures, just to mention a few examples. It is a paradise for anyone who appreciates the decorative arts. It is definitely a must see.

In addition, there is a new restaurant on the premises, fashioned after a typical French brasserie. It offers main dishes, like seabass, steak tartar, etc. It also has an array of terrines, cheeses, platters of oyster, clams, and prawns.

On the way out make sure you survey the scene around Manchester Square. The park is lush green even in late winter, and surrounded by XIX century mansions (although none as large as the one where the collection is housed).

In short, the Wallace Collection is a gem. I can't wait to get back. Anna L. JosephsI had heard of the Wallace Collection many times, but had never visited it in my many visits to London. Every time I step inside, I feel myself relax immediately - it's a world away from the hustle and bustle of Marylebone High Street and W1 in general.

The building is quirky yet pleasingly old-fashioned, an Edwardian building with 'long oak galleries and graceful skylights'. The upper floor is filled with natural light from said skylights, the basement cosy and comfortable enough to spend hours browsing and reading in.

The layout of the books is another great feature - mostly travel books and guides, laid out by country/ continent, with fiction and non-fiction relevant to the place all mixed in. It makes for an interesting way to pick your travel/ holiday reading: why buy just a guidebook when you can read some indigenous literature, poetry, or criticism?

The store holds regular readings and literary events and is a great place to spend a rainy (or sunny!) weekend afternoon. Try it once, and you won't go back to WHSmith, I can tell you. This is such a beautiful, one-of-a-kind bookshop.
