Turn abruptly off of Oxford Streets busy rush rush rush (there's a slipway next to H&M) and you find yourself in the laid back and cafe cultured lanes of Marylebone.

I love this part of london, not only are there some marvellous shops, but I'm risking nearly failing to mention to one of the best places in the area: Bean Juice. The healthy side of super healthy Bean Juice is one up on the its chain counterparts; here staff are super friendly - and very happy to enter into a banter of 'so how do you feel', and 'how can we make you feel better'. Slightly worse for wear due to a lack of sleep and dancing on the tiles all night, my last visit was met with a bleary eyed and thick voiced response (or rather grunt) that resulted in a concoction green in colour (suspicious) but assured that 'down in one' would perk me up. Gosh they weren't wrong. Green Giants aside, I don't know what the Bean team put in that little super juice (green by all accounts) but WOW perked up and raring to go after this super juice. Also on offer are some rather lovely cakes, muffins and dried (super) fruit treats.

After my next fatiguing outing i'll be sure to head back to Bean Juice. also rather lovely is to sit outside of an afternoon and people watch those rushing by... Those are the ones missing out on the high juice content inside :-)

Despite being a Belgian chain with branches in New York, Le Pain Quotidien feels tres francais. It's like Paul's more rustic, filling boulangerie cousin: same great French approach to fresh bread, delicious croissants and decent coffee in bowls, but with heftier open sandwiches and salads on the menu. It also has the benefit of free wifi and a great breakfast menu - the porridge will fill you up till way after lunch, and only those with iron self-control will be able to resist the sticky jars of praline spread that appear with the baguette. Service is swift and charming (and definitely included on your bill).

All branches are buzzy, with a large communal table, as well as smaller tables, but the Kings Road branch is particularly good for people-watching, packed as it is with chic continental locals enjoying a taste of home, yummy mummies and shoppers. For a solo coffee & newspaper moment or a bigger lunch with a glass of wine, Le PQ makes a refreshing change from the usual coffee chains. If you after a light lunch, perhaps a baked potato, a salad or pasta, this is your place. The rooms are tiny and a bit spartan. But the food is well-prepared and service cheerful
and fast. Coffee is excellent as is the fresh OJ. Prices are very reasonable. It is one of the best cafes in the area and I eat here regularly - what higher praise can there be? I had a tuna melt here that was fishier than a longshorman's underpants after 3 months at sea. Gross. No lettuce, tomato, nothing. Just bad tuna cheese, squished beyond recognition.

And the latte was terrible too.

Business meetings.
Builders.
Shoppers.
Offie workers.

It's run by two guys who wear worryingly tight white vests and black jeans. They are incredibly slow and seem to hate having to serve customers. Everything seems too much effort. It's got to the level where it's actually charming. It could be something out of a sit-com.

They do by far and away the best bacon sandwich and sit down breakfast in the area. Just make sure you've got a good couple of hours to enjoy it!

I gave it 3 stars because it could get anything between 5 and 1 and 3 just seemed like a good way to hedge my bets.Blandfords is an institution.

We've been going here for hangover cures and lunchtime sandwiches for around 2 years now. I have eaten loads of times at the Marco Polo cafe in Marylebone High Street. The service has always been great. There is a great selection of hot and cold food, all seemingly made fresh at the time of ordering.

Cost is very reasonable.

If the weather permits you can also sit outside.

The other small bonus is that the cafe is situated next door to a BBC recording studio.. So there is always a great chance that you will spot some celebrities. Great idea, much like the salad bars that one finds in larger cities in the US, but not that successful once put into play.

They serve a varied set menu of wraps (which can be put on a baguette if you like), and a number of salads where you choose the base (jacket potato, greens, rice, or pasta) and choose a number of ingredients which they serve up for you, along with your choice of salad dressing.

The toppings for the salad are numerous and look pretty fresh; the price is reasonable, and I regret that I didn't go for the salad bar and instead chose a goat's cheese baguette with a heavily curry-spiced tomato chutney (not very good at all).

I have been a regular now for more years than I care to remember. Valeries has a winning formula - a light lunch, speedily served
at an affordable cost. Today it was a croque monsieur but it could have been an omelette
with a selection of fillings or pasta or the day or a salad. The staff are very efficient and willing. The tables are close together
and the chairs a bit uncomfortable but this is is a cafe not a restuarant. Price around £10-12 a head makes it a winner. This is one of the places that has really benefitted from the ban on smoking. It does get very, very full.
If you are very hungry, there are fanastic cakes
