We attempted to get into The Globe Pub across the road from the station, but it was totally rammed so we went for a walk, and found this great little place.

The beers are reasonably priced for London, about average I would say. Service is quick and the bar staff are very friendly. The punters there were mostly quite young, I'd say most were in their 30's. They were a friendly bunch, and more than willing to have a bit of amusing banter about the football.

We managed to get a couple of tables in the little room round the back, and ate our food there. It was very reasonably priced, with mains coming to about £6. It was well worth the money. The portions were quite a generous size and it tasted pretty good. You wouldnt rave about the food if it were in a restaurant, but for the price you pay, it was very good.

Service for the food was fast and friendly. Your order the food from the lovely Thai ladies in there. The bar seems to be a different operation. All works quite well.

There is plenty of seating inside, for what isn't a huge bar. There are also lots of benches outside to sit on when the weather is nice.I stumbled across this place the other day when I was walking from Baker Street trying to find somewhere to watch the football. I know thatâ¬"s controversial, and I think I may have to write a letter of apology to the Crown, but this place is just utterly fantastic. I think Iâ¬"m in love.

For a start, it closes in the afternoon. Now, that may not seem like a merit in most peopleâ¬"s book but there is something so quintessentially â¬Spubby⬠about it ⬠open for lunch, close during the â¬Sgraveyard hoursâ¬, which any barman/maid is familiar with (in fact, I wrote most of my undergraduate dissertation while at work during this down time) then open up for knocking off time.

(Also, if you think about it, itâ¬"s completely logical ⬠A: the kind of people who are drinking at 3.30pm on a Tuesday afternoon are the kind of people you probably donâ¬"t want in your pub. People like me. B: just a quick cost/benefit analysis must highlight the fact that the amount of money you take over the bar on your average weekday afternoon is usually significantly less than the cost of powering and manning the place.)

So. Itâ¬"s closed. Great. Inside it is beautiful! Very comfortable and welcoming, a little dark but that gave it a more cosy touch. Thereâ¬"s a decent sized L-shaped bar, with some excellent bar stools. Around one side are some very interesting copper-topped tables, which must be a bugger to keep clean but they look great! Around the other side there are some more comfy looking tables, chairs and sofas.

Now then. The garden is a delight! Itâ¬"s enclosed, itâ¬"s paved and overhung with some kind of vegetation. There is also a long trestle table roofed with trellising which I can imagine in the evening looks very romantic indeed.

They only have one beer, but itâ¬"s London Pride and it was delicious so who gives a crap. Further to that they have a pretty standard collection of lagers etc.

By far and away the highlight of this pub is the juke box. I had a wonderful time (and spent a lot of money!) trawling through the extensive collection which can cater to pretty much any taste.

As if l that wasnâ¬"t enough, the staff when we went in were some of the most charming and sociable Iâ¬"ve had the pleasure to have met and they do great pizza.

This all makes for a fantastic, friendly atmosphere and I can see this gaff becoming a regular.
I donâ¬"t want to alarm any one, but this could well be the best pub in Camden. Really, its a large, fairly ordinary pub, with a number of alcoves and discrete seating areas, but the only place to cruise would be at the bar. Given it is brightly lit and open to the public at large this is a better place to to go with someone you know rather than than to meet through cruising. I went there with someone I had arranged to see who was staying at one of the several nearby hotels. The Quebec is something of a landmark and popular in the evenings with people meeting up who work nearby. I prefer sleasy venues for cruising and places like this for meeting friends in a reasonably relaxed and gay friendly atmosphere. The Quebec is a famous Gay venue close to Marble Arch. This does mean, however, that they are happen for you to bring your own food in. They provide plates and cutlery so usually in the week, they have a big rush around lunchtime.

For Christmas, I rented out the back room which has a large table and put on a christmas dinner for 18. The Tup is my boyfriend Keith's local so we just carried over the food. It was brilliant!!

The Tup also has free wireless, a cheese and wine night on Mondays and 2 for 1 cocktails on a Wednesday.

Pontefract Castle has 6 different ales on tap and they even do a "matching sausages and ales" night on Mondays. I've only eaten there once so far and I had a 5 bean and vegetable soup and some breaded prawns with sweet chilli sauce. The prawns were a bit overcooked and so were slightly dry and the soup was lacking in actual vegetables and beans!! I guess most traditional pubs have the same standard of food so I can't really complain.I'm a big fan of ales so I always enjoy finding somewhere new that serves a good variety. The food isn't great, (although I've only eaten there once almost a year ago) but the ambiance, the stylish decor and the friendly staff are worth visiting for. The downstairs cocktail bar is great especially for private parties, or if you're like me, afterwork drinks with the office. Look out for the owner too. Top Geezer and all-round nice guy. The drinks are ridiculously overpriced - and to be honest the music is pretty cheesy.

It calls itself a private members bar/club but if you look pretty, they will let you in. The crowd is not that sophisticated although they may try to act like they are; overall I probably wouldn't bother coming here again unless you had money to burn - Located just off Oxford St, it draws the kind of crowd you like to stare at what label your handbag is..
The place itself is absolutely amazing, £2 million was spent on the lighting, which takes 5 people to operate, the bathrooms are beautiful and overall the place is glamourous. The place remains very unpredictable: some nights packed with a great crowd, other nights dead. But as mentioned below, the bar stays open till 1 or 2 am. The trick is to walk around the block and enter through the hotel. The place is often open, even though it looks closed from outside. They've lost some of their friendlier staff, but the food menu is decent (sourced locally in Marylebone) and the room pleasant.

*      *      *

This place is newish and has been trying to drum up business by offering 2-for-1 dinner specials. The decor makes it feel a bit clubbish but it's not crowded (at least for the moment) and well lit. Think of it as a quiet, elegant spot. I've only ever tried one bit of food here - the grilled cheese - and it was more than fine. But best till last: though the restaurant closes at 11 the bar stays open till 2 am. At last a civilized refuge after all restaurants in the area have kicked you out.An update on my previous review (below).
