I went to the Grand last Friday for a business networking lunch. We had a set menu and I chose betroot salad and pigeon in a port sauce with celery and chestnuts.
The salad was miser and the pigeon was a dark colour on the outside and raw on the inside. A few differently chopped pieces of celery accompanied the pigeon and I think I counted 3 small chestnuts with it.

I love going to La Masseria because it's like being back home with my Mamma! Not that Barbara is like my Mum by the way, but the food is gorgeous and when you sit at the table you always end up having a bit of a chat and a laugh with the owner, Barbara, who really makes you feel at home.
The coffee and sandwiches are top notch and very reasonably priced.
Well done Barbara! Highly recommendedI love going to La Masseria because it's like being back home with my Mamma! I stumbled across this place the other day when I was walking from Baker Street trying to find somewhere to watch the football. We attempted to get into The Globe Pub across the road from the station, but it was totally rammed so we went for a walk, and found this great little place.

The beers are reasonably priced for London, about average I would say. Service is quick and the bar staff are very friendly. The punters there were mostly quite young, I'd say most were in their 30's. They were a friendly bunch, and more than willing to have a bit of amusing banter about the football.

We managed to get a couple of tables in the little room round the back, and ate our food there. It was very reasonably priced, with mains coming to about Â£6. It was well worth the money. The portions were quite a generous size and it tasted pretty good. You wouldnt rave about the food if it were in a restaurant, but for the price you pay, it was very good.

Service for the food was fast and friendly. Your order the food from the lovely Thai ladies in there. The bar seems to be a different operation. All works quite well.

There is plenty of seating inside, for what isn't a huge bar. Fairuz is one of my favourite restaurants in London. If you like big, flash, minimalist, slick dining palaces then this isn't for you. It's a cosy, unpretentious, friendly, perennially busy neighbourhood place â¬ though it's nowhere near my own neighbourhood. Myself and Keith were wandering around Oxford Street late at night and we hadn't eaten dinner. Carluccios was the only place around that was still serving. I've avoided it in the past as the food in chain restaurants is usually a let-down. We just had a plate of pasta each and both were fantastic. The pasta was cooked perfectly and there was so much flavour packed onto each plate.

Keith had the penne giardiniera which is penne pasta with chilli, courgette and spinach balls. The balls were wonderfully cheesy and a refreshing change from the usual pasta accompaniments. I had a classic spaghetti vongole and I had no complaints (well maybe just that keith's dish was nicer than mine!). There were plenty of clams and the pasta was well seasoned. I haven't been back again so I don't know whether the other food is any good but the pasta can't be faulted. A friend and I went to Minqala restaurant on Thursday evening. When we arrived, there were a number of people eating in the restaurant and 3 or 4 empty tables. We were told by staff that there were no tables available for us. We went to the pub directly opposite where we were able to observe that no customers entered the restaurant or sat at the empty tables over the next half an hour or so. We feel that we were discriminated against and were not welcome in this restaurant.A friend and I went to Minqala restaurant on Thursday evening. We enjoyed dinner here on Saturday 20 June 2009. We started downstairs in the Tapa Room with a glass of fine NZ bubbly, then moved upstairs for dinner. I really liked the dining space - lovely and small and intimate, quite plainly decorated, but with a light, airy feel. Service throughout the evening was without fault. The food: we liked the idea of tasting plates and opted for three savoury and one sweet course each which, along with the bread offered, was ample to eat. My first course of ginger roast pumpkin was a rather tiny portion and lacked the flavour I was lead to expect from the description. I felt a bit short-changed! The other dishes we chose were the pork belly, lamb, duck and the foie gras with oxtail croquette. These were all delicious with the standout for me being the turnip cake which was served with the pork. An explosion of flavours. The foie gras and oxtail dish was also excellent. My husband's favourite dish was the lamb. He chose a Turkish inspired dessert of a pistachio and pastry confection which he thought very good. I chose the rhubarb bavarois with cinnamon doughnut. The bavarois was very nice, but the doughnut was awful. A fresh doughnut should be soft on the inside, a little crispy on the outside. My doughnut was tough and dry - whoever made that in a restaurant of this calibre should be shot! It should never have made it over the passe. The wine list is absolutely excellent and the choice of NZ wines extensive. Lovely. All in all, we had an enjoyable evening, but it is all rather pricey. Would we go back? I donâ¬"t want to alarm any one, but this could well be the best pub in Camden. I know thatâ¬"s controversial, and I think I may have to write a letter of apology to the Crown, but this place is just utterly fantastic. I think Iâ¬"m in love.

For a start, it closes in the afternoon. Now, that may not seem like a merit in most peopleâ¬"s book but there is something so quintessentially â¬Spubbyâ¬ about it â¬ open for lunch, close during the â¬Sgraveyard hoursâ¬, which any barman/maid is familiar with (in fact, I wrote most of my undergraduate dissertation while at work during this down time) then open up for knocking off time.

(Also, if you think about it, itâ¬"s completely logical â¬ A: the kind of people who are drinking at 3.30pm on a Tuesday afternoon are the kind of people you probably donâ¬"t want in your pub. People like me. B: just a quick cost/benefit analysis must highlight the fact that the amount of money you take over the bar on your average weekday afternoon is usually significantly less than the cost of powering and manning the place.)

So. Itâ¬"s closed. Great. Inside it is beautiful! Very comfortable and welcoming, a little dark but that gave it a more cosy touch. Thereâ¬"s a decent sized L-shaped bar, with some excellent bar stools. Around one side are some very interesting copper-topped tables, which must be a bugger to keep clean but they look great! Around the other side there are some more comfy looking tables, chairs and sofas.

Now then. The garden is a delight! Itâ¬"s enclosed, itâ¬"s paved and overhung with some kind of vegetation. There is also a long trestle table roofed with trellising which I can imagine in the evening looks very romantic indeed.

They only have one beer, but itâ¬"s London Pride and it was delicious so who gives a crap. Further to that they have a pretty standard collection of lagers etc.

By far and away the highlight of this pub is the juke box. I had a wonderful time (and spent a lot of money!) trawling through the extensive collection which can cater to pretty much any taste.

As if l that wasnâ¬"t enough, the staff when we went in were some of the most charming and sociable Iâ¬"ve had the pleasure to have met and they do great pizza.

This all makes for a fantastic, friendly atmosphere and I can see this gaff becoming a regular.

the Landau is at the Langham hotel where my wife's family and friends descended for our pre-Christmas lunch. Perhaps the pastel decor offended me but I didn't expect anything above a standard hotel meal. .... Wrong !

The "Oeuf Froit Albert" salmon, hen's yolk and artichoke was awesome. The Foie Gras parfait was equally excellent. With the biggest yorkshire puddings, I could not resist the roast beef which was just too polite. Perhaps I will learn that a gleaming dining room like this is not going to serve a rustic rib of beef. Nonetheless it was OK.

The deserts were back to the form of the starters. Excellent and all for Â£35.
