Nice food but wouldn't recommend Sundays, too busy. When I complained that our order appeared to get lost I was told they had 'More customers than they could cope with'. A lesson there I think. Damp, dark, eerie, low-lit caverns underground London Bridge.. Absolutely loved a recent night here. There were exhibitions set up in some rooms and live music too. came across this place in Borough high street a week ago, I have walked passed the premises every day for the past two years and it has always had shutters down so it was suprising to see a new restaurant in town. When we went at about 8 on Thursday it was not particularly busy with only 2 other tables occupied

Decor was pleasing ( could do with some pictures ) and not your usual Indian flock wall paper style, it had a modern feel about about it with modern Indian "lounge" music to match

I ordered from the evening menu and the food I received was definately not the usual gloopy curry sause , well presented and great taste , my only gripe would be that the chutneys came in a smaller than usual pot and left me wanting more and the nan came in a plastic basket, other than that presentaion was A1.

another bonus is that they do not yet have a licence so we were able to go to the off licence opposite and buy some Cobra ( no cover charge) :-) , staff were polite and did everything asked. Overall cost worked out at an average price of Â£17.00 a head ( starter,main course breads)

This place has recovered from a bad start in our eyes and one thatâ¬"s nothing whatsoever to do with the food and drink.
My wife and I were strolling past as they were fitting it out last year when we got waylaid by the owner and quizzed about our foodie habits. Having recognised our potential as customers (mineâ¬"s vast), he insisted on noting our email address and said he would be inviting us to his opening night party. Hardly the Oscars but we were looking forward to it so you can imagine our disappointment when it didnâ¬"t come off and weâ¬"ve never heard from him to this day. With a slightly less than mature approach to such rejection, we vowed to avoid the place, even though it is just round the corner from our local pub.
Well that resolve finally cracked a few weeks ago when the need for spicy food finally got the better of our so-called principles and we decided to darken their door.
Four visits later is probably testimony both to their food and my love of an Indian, particularly after a visit to the pub.
We havenâ¬"t spent any time in the very chic-looking downstairs bar but we have been well pleased with our meals in the first floor restaurant. A good plate of mixed starters, marinated lamb chops and a curry of some description, all eaten with the really nice mixed breads selection is our usual order, with all the food served together banquet-style.
It isnâ¬"t as expensive as it looks, the bill coming in at around Â£50 with drinks, and they donâ¬"t disappoint. For us, it is the best local Indian, certainly within walking distance, and worth making the effort to visit. Just don't get over-excited if they ask for your email address.

Awful, smelly place. Not worth the money. You end up stinking from wearing the shoddy overalls they provide and from the wet floor which is full of old paintballs and condensation. The marshall we had was really ignorant, and they don't make you feel welcome (apart from the woman on the front desk). If you want to go paintballing try somewhere else.Awful, smelly place. It's near the Tate Modern, it's in a landmark building that's part of a funky glass and steel development, it has a pÃ©tanque lawn and a roll top bath out front, plus a mini croquet lawn...how pretentious, you may think.

And yes, I can imagine that this place opened and suffered as a result of all its grand ideas. I believe you, DanWilkinson, that it was only average in the beginning. I'm sure that the service was beyond slow; we had a long wait to get served at the bar and the staff seemed united by a common air of being really, really stoned. I have to say the prices weren't unreasonable: drinks were average, burgers at the £6-£7 mark and they had a wide menu with most choices coming in at under £8.

Our food took a good 20 minutes to arrive, which is fairly unusual for just burgers and light bites. The hopeless staff were sweet, but couldn't offer up much more than 'the kitchen is really overloaded today' - not usually a good sign. The food (I had the grilled chicken club, my fellow diners had burgers, mussels, prawns and onion rings) was absolutely fine, but we didn't sample anything life-changing.

Still, something about The Refinery really won me over. Maybe it's the design and the concept of the whole place - industrial, airy, lots of wood and loads of room. Maybe it was the fact that they had a good DJ spinning and the music was determinedly above average. Maybe it was the crowd â¬ a rather eye-pleasing mix of office suits and quirky design/ interiors types. Or maybe it was the fact that it wasn't packed to the rafters, and there was space to look around, hear your friends' voices, and take it all in.

The Refinery is trying hard to tick many boxes all at once, and probably won't succeed in all areas. But once theyâ¬"ve worked out what theyâ¬"re best at, and concentrate their efforts, I think more people will realise what a thoroughly nice space it is. Iâ¬"ll certainly be returningâ¬¦

I love love love the Garrison. Everyone we have taken there has been really impressed by the food and felt really comfortable. They also do great beers and ales. It is always really busy so it is best to reserve a table. On Sunday they do a cinema downstairs showing new releases. Have yet to go but it sounds great. The decor is shabby chic, making it a little bit shoreditch but softer.

The staff are really friendly too. We especially like David who is very chatty. So if you meet him say hi from me!I love love love the Garrison. I went there for a friend's birthday after failing to enter to the Shunt... My first impression when I entered was that I am going to hate it but after a while I noticed that the screen was displaying slides about galaxies which was great and there were a group of people dressed as Aliens. I've only ever been able to afford a personal trainer once, but these guys have set up access to personal trainers all over London for a fraction of the price. For a monthly fee of just £12.50 you can get all the fitness advice and help that PTs normally give, and have access to one at the end of an email or via a website. Just pay the normal session rates when you want a face to face. This place is a real find and even more so if there's a LastMinute offer on for the theatre performance, when they always do a good value themed table dâ¬"hote menu. The set menu usually had a proper veggie main course, rather than an adapted afterthought (and we're not veggies ourselves).
Itâ¬"s a little eclectic; so it sort of fits the theatre setting, but has never disappointed in half a dozen visits. Check their website for whatâ¬"s onstage and whatâ¬"s cooking. With all that London has to offer, it's still one of the few places we regularly return to.

I went here on 23rd Dec and it was empty. This certainly isn't fair to judge it on how popular it is as it was the Monday before Xmas so fair enough.
WHat I can judge it on are the cocktails, and I only had 1. It was a so called 'happy hour', and a cocktail that tasted of cheap booze and acid, having looked at the website I think it was a Hemingway martini.
Leaving aside what is subjective personal taste for the cocktail, the big gripe is that the drink was served in the TINIEST cocktail glass I've ever seen. At a happy hour price of Â£4 something it wasn't great, but if I paid full price for that well, I wouldn't, I'd just walk out. It's definitely not a cocktail bar no matter what the reviewers say below. Interesting that all of them have only ever put one review on this site, and it's all effusive praise for this bar. Coincidence? I think not!

I can't quite put my finger on Kwan Thai. In trendy Bermondsey Street, surrounded by quality restaurants and gastropubs, The Hide Bar more than holds its own. The incredibly comprehensive drinks list - particuarly spirits and wines - is testament to the knowledge of owner Paul Mathews and the input of his landlord, the Wine and Spirit Education Trust which owns the building.
Cocktails are a speciality of the house, but there is also beer from the Meantime Brewery in Greenwich and some amazing rare rums and bourbons, not just for aficionados.
The food tries to keep up with the drinks - meat is from Borough Market butcher the Ginger Pig, cheeses from Neal's Yard Dairy etc - but it is just-above-average pub fare (burgers, fish and chips, a daily risotto special).
The back bar is the venue for weekly tutored tastings and masterclasses, for example cognac or martinis, which are usually free, and this area can also be booked for private parties.

The Roxy on Borough High Street is possibly a perfect destination. In essence it is a bar with a full size cinema screen that has a varied and interesting programme and an audience that is interested in what's on and buzzy and chatty the rest of the time. The food they serve is okay, possibly the weakest thing, though both food and bar service is friendly and helpful. Being from the Midlands, and family from Somerset naturally I love cheese.

I didn't realise this place existed until a sample of cheese was handed to me on the street (my ultimate dream).

The smell of the shop is overwealming but in a wonderful way and I brought the most amazing goats cheese.

My brother also a cheese fanatic will soon be taking a trip to what I call London's cheese heaven.Being from the Midlands, and family from Somerset naturally I love cheese.
