The first thing you notice when you get inside the Black Lion is the amazing interior. The Grade II listed gold embossed ceiling, brass hangings and working fireplace combine to give a unique and welcoming interior perfect for a wintry Sunday drink. The food's damn fine too if a little expensive but they're slightly let down by the beer selection, which includes Amstel and Hoegaarden but little else of interest. Locals keep this historic pub quietly buzzing and an electic soundtrack which tends towards Britpop and indie makes this a truly accessible local.The first thing you notice when you get inside the Black Lion is the amazing interior. The Westbury is tucked down at the end of Kilburn High Road; a world away from Kilburn's traditional Irish boozers with its chandeliers, self-consciously eclectic decor and European beers along with some seriously tasty grub. And Kilburn's recent influx of young professionals and trendy types love it! The 3am weekend licence is a definite draw, along with the sterling musical lineup which tends to be heavy on the electro, hiphop and old skool sounds and regularly features heavyweights such as A-Skillz, Plump DJs and Stanton Warriors. I've finally got a local gastro pub in Kilburn!!! Ok the North London Tavern has always been there for the 2 years I've been living in Kilburn but I never got around to trying it out, and boy have I been missing out. No more horrid tube trips in central London to finding nice gastro pubs, all I need to do now is simply walk for a few minutes and poof here I am.

I've always been attracted to try this place out. From the exterior it's got this Guinness black colour and I always noticed how it was usually full and dark inside. Yesterday night with the TrustedPlaces team we ventured into the North London Tavern and were instantly pleasantly surprised. The inside has this beautiful dark wood panelling all along the walls interrupted by glass work. The ceiling is high, and whilst it was relatively full we didn't have to wait too long to get served. Now the beers aren't quite your local prices but a bit on the high end. The people in the pub seemed to be all the trendy and relaxed locals that Kilburn has, which was interesting in itself.

However what really surprised me was the "gastro" part of the gastro pub. There is a large room for the restaurant with a nice big chandelier in the middle of it. There's also a fireplace on the far left of the room, making this room a romantic one for first dates. The food itself was surprising good and definately lived up to the "gastro pub" name. I understand that they also do Sunday roasts which I hope to try out fairly soon. The pricing is about normal for a gastro pub.

If you're in the Kilburn, Cricklewood, Willesden Green or West Hampstead area then you should come and try out the London Tavern Pub.I've finally got a local gastro pub in Kilburn!!! We booked for a family meal her and they could not have been more helpful. They provided a fixed price menu with 3 courses for Â£13 a head (children were less). The food was great and such huge portions that we were feeling fairly full with just the starters. Very nice staff and quick service. The pub part had Gaelic football on a large screen on the wall and the crowd in watching this were very good natured. The staff went out of their way to accomodate what the child wanted. I never new this place existed until recently when on passing I was attracted to a poster advertising 'live jazz' which is played on Sunday lunch times.

Great discovery, not only live music but comedy and music hall performances too.

Comedy is on Saturdays and includes performances by veterans Barry Cryer and Ronnie Golden (last weekend) and this Saturday (February 16th) is Ed Byrne and Hattie Haybridge).

There was a music hall show on Sunday (once a month) and was structured around the the format of the 'Good Old Days' TV programme that was/is very popular. The show featured the MC and many of the performers from the original shows.

More live music is scheduled this Friday, link to the website for a full itinerary.
