Royal Oak - A run down pub for day drinkers by moner

The pub was quiet with retired male drinkers. It still smelt of smoke despite the ban!!! I think this may be because it is ingrained in the walls and ceiling as these badly need cleaning and a lick of paint would not go a miss. They do a small selction of bar food-but could not wait to get out of there and would not dream of eating there, judging by the overall hygiene and decor of the place. The pub seemed to be used by a handful of daytine hardened drinkers, who all knew each other and sat around the bar area drinking-it is really not for anyone who is not over 60 and does not want to sit with people who probably have been drinking from when it opened. This is a shabby pub, in need of refurbishment and updating.
Angies Freehouse - Lively pub. by moner

This pub is very small a long corridor style seating area and it does get packed. It has a great atmosphere. Good beer and food is served here. Part of the pubs charm is that it is so small you have to share seating/tables and mix with others and therfore you get to meet new people. The staff are friendly and offer a good quick bar service. You will find good beer, food and compnay at Angies. This pub is part of the Angies chain I have reviewed another pub from it already and most of the Angies pubs are similar in that they are like traditional Irish pubs with a lively atmosphere and are very welcoming to all.
Paradise By Way Of Kensal Green - Great night out by Qqueenie

It was the Wagyu of chickens I believe - best not to put it in a pie with gravy so it tastes just like...well chicken. The steak was excellent (about the same price as my pie - que?) The wine is pretty well priced and a good solid list ... and the puddings whilst small on size and again a little steep, did look stunning. I think what I am trying to say is that its hard to just 'pop in for a bite' here - you are looking at £40 a head min, which is a shame, it being a local boozer. That aside its still high on my list, if you go at the weekend you get the added bonus of a great little nightclub upstairs which is open until 2am. There is also a private dining room seating max 20 which is definitely worth a booking. Smoker-friendly with gardens downstairs and a large busy balcony upstairs too. Well worth a visit, if just for the hand-painted Italian wallpaper in the ladies ..We ate here recently, and I know they have a posh chef, but rather expensive for what is a basically a noisy jostling gastropub (£15.75 for a chicken and mushroom pie - and that was the cheapest item on the main course menu!).

This Kensal Rise newcomer has just about everything you could ask for in a local; friendly management, a bar where you can relax and enjoy your drink without feeling either in the way or the object of other drinkers´ scrutiny, and a smarter but relaxed dining room where some excellent cooking comes from an open kitchen.

Owners Mark and James have brought to Kensal Rise the very definition of a good British gastro pub - hearty food with a good choice of beers and wine. A separate bar area and a quieter restaurant - it´s a simple formula but so many restaurants and pubs contrive to get it wrong.

Try the fantastic Caesar Salad or the excellent Spaghetti Carbonara. Another must for all Taste London members is The Greyhound´s superb Sunday Lunch.

There is nothing better than starting your day or ending your night in this fabulous gastro pub, with delicious food in casual and laid back surroundings.
