It is not often that one comes across a restaurant that has style, vibe and some seriously fabulous food. I have been lucky enough to not only dine , but also to experience the wine here, and I intend to develop this very complimentary and devastingly evocative relationship some more.

On my visit, despite being full to bursting and busy every member of staff was attentive, helpful and catchingly perky! Now my experience may have been coloured by the delightful company for the evening (a perceptive, witty and charming dining companion) but Moro also holds all these qualities on its own just on the vibe alone.

For some reason I skipped the Tapas and went straight for the weekly menu, a sardine related dish full of spice, and just the right mix of olive oil and fennel seeds. Simplicity in itself. Now the dining was divine, but better was the wine, and I heartidly recommend, the OntaÃ±on, Gran Reserva a 2001 Spanish Rioja. On the side of 'pricey' at nearly Â£50 a bottle, but mmm so sumptuous.

It has been a while since I've had such great service (especially in the UK!) and wonderful food, and reading the other reviews it seems Moro gets this balance right at least 90% of the time. I'm hoping for those disappointed diners they will return and be charmed in the same way I have been.

My own intention is to revisit and take advantage of the tapas, and moment with a suitably charming dining partner. When i came her to curry leaf about a month ago i had the marinaded lamb leg which was quite hot but small. It was served with pilau rice and a slice of nan. I had a couple of beers which probably wasn't a wise choice as the Air con at work is broken and it was not a great afternoon make!

Maybe it's an old one or a copy but I did spot a Banksey outside the restaurant.

The only bad thing about this place was that it was a very slow service. A comfoprtable upmarket noisy barn of a place, best suited to diners who can lip read. Service is slow and dull-witted. Don't even think about a pre-theatre dinner here (even though it is owned by the Almeida Theatre opposite). Visiting the restaurant immediately after a play is the only possibility. But they had run out of 4 of the items on a medium short menu and 3 of those were fairly staple (eg steak, scallops, raw tuna). Fifteen minutes after you are seated the waiters hand you the menu and return 20 minutes later to take your order. When you place your order they tell you it is not available (our visit was not on April 1). Potato Dauphin Noir seemed a nice side order from the menu but the chef's version is just separate small new potatoes boiled and lightly sauteed with a bit of butter and melted cheese. What we have here is good quality ingredients spoilt by an amateur chef and dumb waiters. There is no shortage of staff, just a shortage of knowhow and intelligence. Frederick's is a bar and restaurant slightly hidden away in Camden Passage and has long established a reputation of delivering some of the best food in Islington serving up Modern European cuisine. The main area is through the back and is a large airy room with high vaulted glass ceiling. The atmosphere is perfect for business lunches and dinners.

As a quick trip we only ordered mains with sides. Dishes ordered included the Roasted cod, creamed leeks, pancetta & mash potato and Pan-fried salmon with scallops, cauliflower purÃ©e & broad bean dressing. Whilst all the dishes were beautifully prepared and balanced the service was a let down. Our sides, saute potatoes, hand cut chips and spinach and arrived at different times and the chips did not even end up coming as we had to leave after an hour and fiften minutes. The staff were friendly but despite it not being that busy, it was far too chaotic and a let down.

I feel that tonight was probably not the best night, although I have read somewhat often complaints of poor service at Frederick's. Exmouth Market is a happening place on a weekday lunch time, with market stalls and numerous restaurants and cafes catering to hungry office workers. Santore is an Italian restaurant on this lively strip, and I visited one day for lunch with my work mates.

The restaurant has a relaxed feel, with smiling staff and a large menu. My colleagues all opted to order from the special 2 course lunch menu, whilst I, always the trouble maker, selected from the main menu.

I had the Rucola pizza, which had Parma ham, rocket and parmesan cheese. It was enjoyable, with generous toppings, though the middle was a but soggy. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their choices, and some people continued on to dessert too. A brief agreement with allolex's review.

My title about sums it up. I've had some good burritos in London (notably El Panzon in Brixton) but Tortilla is the only place I've been to in London where the taste and ingredients in the burrito were what I would expect to receive in an American burrito joint. I think it's important to make this distinction since the USA has so co-opted Mexican food and there's a proliferation of wrap/burrito joints which have cropped up across the country (especially in college towns) that have changed our expectation of what a burrito should taste like. Probably to the dis-taste of many Americans who are fans of their regional variation on mexican food.

El Paso has okay Mexican food-- better than most Mexican food in London, but unfortunately I'm from Texas, where good Tex-Mex is everywhere, so I was inevitably disappointed with this food. The atmosphere is again okay... I felt they were trying to make it feel a little more lively than it was. There are much more lively and better quality places to eat in Shoreditch.

That said though, it was some of the best Mexican food I've had in London and the portions were generous. The staff was average, but like I said there are better places in Shoreditch so I probably won't be going back.El Paso has okay Mexican food-- better than most Mexican food in London, but unfortunately I'm from Texas, where good Tex-Mex is everywhere, so I was inevitably disappointed with this food. The atmosphere is again okay... I felt they were trying to make it feel a little more lively than it was. There are much more lively and better quality places to eat in Shoreditch.

That said though, it was some of the best Mexican food I've had in London and the portions were generous. The staff was average, but like I said there are better places in Shoreditch so I probably won't be going back.

I went here early on a Saturday evening for a special occasion meal and I was overwhelmed. First, it's beautiful inside. The upstairs has gorgeous lighting and the seats were super comfy. The downstairs is very plush and would be a great spot for a cocktail on a date. It has little alcoves that offer the right amount of intimacy for a public place. ;o)

But it wasn't the decor the sold me, it was the cocktails - A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I had the pleasure of enjoying (among others) the Porn Star Martini and to this day have not found a drink I enjoyed more than this one. I take great pleasure in telling people that this is my favourite drink!

We also had food and although at the time I thoroughly enjoyed my fish soup thingy, it was only good enough to be remembered as a fish soup thingy. The cocktails simply stole the show.

They say that this place is 'like' Jamie Oliver's 15, on the grounds that it also employs unemployed youngsters and trains them in professional kitchens. But as far as I'm concerned, that's where the similarity ends.
Unlike Jamie's place nearby, the Hoxton Apprentice is unpretentious (it doesn't charge Â£26 a plate for food described variously as 'Pucka' and 'Wicked' on the menu, for example). The food varies each week, and can include anything from basic and retro, like chicken kiev and chips (very nice it was too) to a more inspired Osso Bucco for supper. The service can be a little patchy, but one suspects that might be because the waiting staff are not longstanding professionals any more than are the staff in the kitchen, but they're unfailingly friendly so you forgive them. Prices are competitive for the area and good for the quality of food received. The House now do breakfast - Everything from big ass fry up to light salmon and scramblies! The bread basket is reasonably priced and would be enough for two people with normal size appetites. (We had the fry up as well and were pleasantly plump for the rest of the day) Pain o' chocolate and croissants were made fresh by their pastry chef at The Bull and were delicious!The House now do breakfast - Everything from big ass fry up to light salmon and scramblies! I've been to Strada in Islington several times and have never left disappointed. They serve a variety of pasta dishes and pizzas and a great selection of fish. I ate a baby octupus for the first time in Strada!
The food arrived very quickly and was lovely and hot, portions were perfectly sized and left me feeling satisfied, rather than bloated, and with enough space for that all important desert.
Although they don't have an amazing selection, what they do serve is delicious. I can recommend the hot chocolate cake with vanilla icecream. I went to Sangria for a friend's birthday and had read some pretty awful reviews so I wasn't expecting great things which is good as it's pretty mediocre and certainly lived up to its poor reputation.

The food itself was ok-but nothing out of the ordinary. Some dishes were bland, some dripping in oil, some lukewarm and some just nothingy. The paella they served was possibly the most tasteless thing I've ever eaten. There was just no point to eating it.

However, the food was the good part of the experience! The staff were woefully disinterested in actually waiting on their tables. It took me 6 requests to get a glass of lemonade, including my walking to the bar where the barman refused to pour it for me as my waiter had not asked him to. I then asked the waiter again and he blamed the barman. They said they would leave if off the bill and then didn't. Of course.

Service was haphazard, slow and at times rude.

I have been to the masala zone many times and have always found they serve great food which is also very good value for money. If you eat before 6 or 7 you can get 2 courses for 8 pounds bargain!! Best dish is a thali as you get a bit of everything! they do a great pineapple chutney a take on the typical mango chutney. also you have to try the mango lassi as it goes great with a hot curry. Staff are always really helpful and friendly especially if need help to decide what to have. the restaurant is also very modern in design and have lovely little booths.I have been to the masala zone many times and have always found they serve great food which is also very good value for money. I tried the Cottons on the week of my arrival in London. It is located in a lively and lovely street (Exmouth market) and offers good Caribbean food in a great atmosphere. We went for some mixed platters to try the different tastes of the Caribbean, and they were great! I can only recommend them if you have no prior knowledge of such food.
They also offer a huge selection of rhums and cocktails, but we didn't try them.
The bill was a little expensive, but I guess you have to pay both for the food and the ambience. I definitively want to go back there, but I donâ¬"t know if I will have the time since there are so many good restaurants in London.
I tried the Cottons on the week of my arrival in London. It is located in a lively and lovely street (Exmouth market) and offers good Caribbean food in a great atmosphere. We went for some mixed platters to try the different tastes of the Caribbean, and they were great! I can only recommend them if you have no prior knowledge of such food.
They also offer a huge selection of rhums and cocktails, but we didn't try them.

Had food poisoning after visiting this place which lasted a week, so wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless immune to the pathogens that frequent these sorts of places. This is a run of the mill turkish kebbab joint cum restaurant that I made the mistake of visiting when I first arrived in the UK. The cooked food is pre-prepared and is reheated - I actually wouldn't put it past them topping up the same three dishes daily, which is unjygienic to put it mildly. The food didn't taste bad though, and a lot of the locals were in enjoying a meal which is what attracted me and my friend to the restaurant. However given the fact that we both came down with food poisoning this was obviously not a coincidence.
