For comfort food I've found a few no-frills places that are very comforting to the wallet as well as the stomach. Can other chowhounds recommend their favorite, nicely priced nosh pits? I'll be amazed if anyone can come up with one thats cheaper or dishes up better or bigger portions than the Megabite, outside Arsenal Stadium on the Benwell Road entrance. The decor is borderline industrial with no hints of Bauhaus - plastic bucket seats bolted into the ground, red tiled floor, beige tiles livened up with a few mementos of China. In short everything that screams greasy spoon. First impressions can sometimes be the wrong impressions. And the plain outside hides a down home culinary treasure. The grub is superb traditional Chinese cooking with no MSG! Just plain and simple home cooking - served up fast with no pretensions ... The first dish I tried was Sea Spice Aubergine with King Prawns and boiled Rice. The Aubergine texture and taste was to die-for. The King Prawns large and plentiful. After I hoovered it up I had to ask the pipe-cleaner thin chef all about it. "I used to cook that for the Queen, she always had it when she came to the Dorchester". I bet the old gal paid more than the Â£4.50 he was charging near the Holloway Road. After that I came back many, many times to sample some more. The stand-out dishes from the menu for me are Roast Duck with spring onion and boiled rice. Which has an immoral amount of tender roast duck. Louhan or Monks Vegetables - a great vegetarian dish with pickled plum, wood-ear fungus, triangular tofu and boiled rice. The cheapest dish in the place is Mixed Vegetables with boiled rice(Â£3.20) - surprisingly tasty. Other natty platters are the sweet and hot KoPo Chicken, Mixed Seafood, Chicken with Celery and the fairly spicy Mixed Vegetables with Curry Sauce. This is a great lunch-time place you can take a date and still have change from a tenner. I discovered this little Ecuadorean restaurant by chance as I happen to live a few seconds from Holloway Road tube station. Its the sort of place you could walk by without noticing (Holloway Road is full of take-aways and dives) but I am so glad I popped in one day.

This little Ecuadorean restaurant servs genuine South American fare of a high standard, with food that tastes home-cooked because it really is home-cooked. The steaks are always cooked as you want them, with the traditional plantain and refried beans on the side. All the famous meat dishes of Ecuador are on the menu and I have tried them all and can guarantee you won't be disappointed.

George and his father run the place with a hospitality classic of South America, making sure you have fun and feel like you are at home (they know me by my name and welcome me and any of my guests as if we were family!)When you walk in you feel like you are stepping into South America!

Ecuadorean beers are topped up and the food comes in good time, but you never feel rushed. They really want you to enjoy the experience of their cosy restuarant at your leisure.

Its just 2 mins from Holoway Road tube, turn right at the rube station and wlak up Holloway Road, you can't miss it on your right! Georgian food isn't something you stumble across every day, but I developed a taste for it while living in Russia a few years ago, and was pleased to stumble across this place. The decor is more upscale than I was expecting, but was very good and obviously a local favourite. Prices are a bit higher than average for the area, but worth every penny. Wait staff are knowledgable and attentive and the music isn't too loud for conversation (a nice change!). Wine list is obviously hand picked and the food itself is wonderful! Starters, mains and wine for two came to just under Â£50. Great for either a romantic evening out or just something a little different. Our first visit to Holloway was to check out a friends new flat, and it was suggested that we go for a meal nearby at El Molino Tapas Bar. We do enjoy tapas, and after reading some positive reviews online, we agreed it was a great idea.

First impressions of El Molino were good. Established in 1987, it looked authentically decorated and welcoming. There were plenty of people eating there, and staff milling about ready to take or order - in fact they happily just took the scrap of paper we had scrawled our tapas choices and even managed to decipher Alex's shorthand.

We ordered 8 dishes between the 3 of us. We stuck to fairly 'standard' options - the Boquerones Fritos (white bait), Calamares A La Romana (calamari), Chuletas De Cordero (lamb cutlets), Croquetas De Pollo (chicken croquettes), Fabada Asturiana (bean stew with chorizo), Berenjena Jardinera (stuffed aubergines), Patatas Bravas (potatoes with spicy sauce), and Tabla De Embutido (mixed salami, ham & Manchego cheese).

Unfortunately the food was very average. The tastiest dish for me was the Fabada Asturiana, and the Croquetas De Pollo and Calamares A La Romana were ok too. I found the Boquerones Fritos way too salty and the Chuletas De Cordero were overcooked. Oh, and don't bother with the the Crema Catalana.

This pub was not what I expected, but in a good way! It has the look and feel of a modern style, non-pretentious pub, but when you get the food menu, it's Thai/Fusion instead of the expected posh pub fare. I had the chicken green curry which was lovely and spicy, along with a vegetable tempura to start. The food was reasonably priced, as were the drinks, and service quite good. The Tollington Arms operates more as a pub than a restaurant (or so it seemed that night), but it's definitely worth going for the food! Crowd was mainly young professionals, and the atmosphere was quite relaxed.This pub was not what I expected, but in a good way!
