I have been here for both large parties and romantic dinners - this tiny restaurant was suited to both occasions. There are only about 8 tables upstairs so it does get crowded and can feel like you are eating inside a shoe box - you can hear everyone else's conversations very clearly, although since this place seems frequented by actors, artists and phd students more than anything else (I know from listening to their converations!) this adds to the atmosphere and makes it a relaxed and entertaining place to eat. The menu is quite basic and not a great range of choice (pizza, calzone and pasta are the core dishes) but the food is very cheap and decent - about Â£4 a dish. The staff are friendly and always laughing and watching football on a small telly like true Italians - if you join in the banter and good humour as a customer you are well rewarded: the staff rearranged the whole restaurant layout for our large birthday party even though we hadn't made a reservation and we even got extra pizza and coffee for the special occasion! I prefer the pizza to the pasta, which tastes more homemade and fresher, whilst the pasta can sometimes be a little over-cooked for my own al-dente tastes, but if you are looking for somewhere cheap and unpretentious, come here.I have been here for both large parties and romantic dinners - this tiny restaurant was suited to both occasions. The Newman Arms is best known for its pies, served both downstairs in the bar and upstairs in a small but cosy restaurant with cheery red checked tablecloths on every table. The food is honest and high quality, serving up British Pie favourites such as Steak and Kidney, Steak and Ale, Chicken and Leek Pies and Apple Pie, Rhubarb Crumble, and Bread and Butter pudding topped with a choice of Ice Cream, Cream or Custard. Service here is friendly and efficient. The menu also has regular specials and vegetarian options (today's included Lamb, Leek and Rosemary and Fisherman's) served with fresh seasonal vegetables all at very reasonable prices.

We arrived at 2pm on a Friday afternoon and had a 10 minute wait for a table for 2. We quickly ordered and I opted for the Lamb and Rosemary as the Special's had sold out. It arrived very quickly in all it's glory, a massive top crust of a pie with perfectly cooked green beans, carrots and light mash. Delicious. I had to follow this with one of their puddings, and since they had run out of Rhubarb crumble and had apple pie, with custard of course.

This place is a must for lunchtime fans of British grub!

Somehow in Central London, some places are allowed to charge nearly Â£10 for a pizza, which is really just glorified cheese on toast. Pizzas in this little venue cost between Â£3-Â£4 depending on your choice of toppings and they are big too! They are cooked to order in front of you and your name shouted out incoherently when they are done. You can eat in or take away for the same price. The tables and chairs are metal and although there are some individual tables, most people perch on high tables with tall stools, sharing the eating space and the various flavoured oils and dried chillis dotted around. Not the most amazing pizza I have ever had (can be a bit greasy for my liking) but for a cheap and quick lunch, with fresh ingrediants, you can't go far wrong. Although most chain restaurants serve okay food, I was disappointed by the quality of the food served here. The restaurant itself is a good size, and being in a part of five we were seated upstairs. There were not many appetizing vegetarian dishes on the menu for a reasonable price so I decided to settle on penne in a garlic sauce. The portion size was decent but my food was bland, and greasy. Could not taste any flavours at all! It was not worth it's price which was around Â£7? The Pho here is certainly not the be all and end all. The beef stock is simply not beefy enough and the fillet steak slices were too overcooked. On the whole, the establishment is still very much Vietnamese and should be congratulated for introducing the cuisine to W1. The cafÃ©/canteen environment is great for quick lunches and the service was efficient and smiles all round. The Iced Vietnamese Coffee is notably 2 die 4.

If Pho had a branch in Kingsland Road, they wouldâ¬"ve been worried sick with the competition there. But then again for all those Westenders who simply cannot be bothered with the epic trip on the Route 52 bus to Hoxton, Pho will do us fine.

If you want to eat well and save your pennies (in this time of credit crunch), go to this Sainsbury branch. They open until late and they are fairly big, so it is easy to find everything you need.

Let me give you a tip: Sainsbury Organic Line is great. The milk is so tasty and the yoghourts are so creamy. However, they are expensive. Why bother to spend more if you can buy their basic line? Concerns about health and taste, mainly. However, there is my tip: this Sainsbury branch uses to reduce all its organic line around 9 oâ¬"clock in the afternoon. So, if you go there, you can eat organic for the price of basic food.

this is a very good restaurants serving traditional and south indian food.

i've never been in the main restaurants. their prices are slighly expensive but still ok for central london.

however, from midday till 3pm they serve box meals such as chicken curry and chicken biryani at Â£3.50 a box served with salad and even dessert.

the prices of cans are 1 pound.

plus they offer sittings too.

for their box deals, you have to get in from the back entrance. alternatively ask them as soon as you enter the shop.

this is definitely the best affordable indian restaurant in central london. meals at Â£3.50 is simply unbelievable.

you will not be disappointed.

Set on the busy Tottenham Court Road, this pub is a relaxing place to visit after shopping or work. The interior is nothing special, but is comfortable enough. The beers are well kept, although whenever I have been here (and that has been quite regularly) they have always had one beer off. So there are usually a couple of ales to choose from.

Staff are friendly and the toilets are clean. The only down side is that you have to walk the length of the bar (as if you are leaving the pub), to get to the staircase leading upstairs to the loos.

The food is very nice too, although I have only ever eaten here on an evening. Popped in here on a night out, having been recommended by friends (it's their favourite place to eat in the area). The food was nice but nothing special, and everything that we ordered was very creamy and rich. The portions weren't very big either, so if you have a good appetite, make sure you order a few side dishes.

The one thing that most put me off returning here was tha we were sitting upstairs, where there were maybe five or six tables, and a member of staff stood up there looking around the whole time, so we felt like we were being watched.

As with many other Sam Smiths pubs in the capital, the Blue Posts has a lovely wooden interior and relaxed feel. If the upstairs is open, go up there. It has its own bar and comfy leatherchairs and sofas, and is dimly lit to create a cosy atmosphere.

Sam Smiths are great value for money if you're an ale drinker on a budget, so long as you go for the draft beer and not the bottles. That said the Taddy Porter is an amazingly tasty tipple.

I haven't eaten here, so can't comment on the food, but for value and atmosphere, and most importantly of course, the beer, it is well worth a visit or five. A friend and I came across this place one evening after work and we were both starving so thought that a good hearty italian dish would satisfy our rumbling stomachs. Although Zizzi does pizzas, salads and calzone, we decided to order the pasta. There were many pasta dishes to choose from and most of them were suitable for vegetarians. Although we were spoilt for choice we ended up ordering the same thing - playing it safe by going for the most simple dish and we were more than satisfied! The portions were very generous - a large plate brimming with pasta, and very quick to arrive. The service was very good also. Nice, cosy atmosphere. I used to work near here and we'd go a lot for lunch and I really enjoyed it but I went back recently for an evening meal and it was not so good. It was really busy which probably did not help. I ordered a squash curry and it was really spicy and there was loads of liquid but not much content - bit more like a soup really. I had the over all impression that it was expensive for what you got. And my friends were not too keen on being squashed onto the benches with other people. I recently ate here as part of a group of 7 people. After a drink in the bar, we went up to eat in the restaurant. The seating was somewhat awkward and not conducive to group of this size. Annoyingly, the waiters bumped into the chairs taking food to other tables and plates back to the kitchen.

The atmosphere is great and relaxed. The service is okay. The good was good, not excellent, in small portions. However, the dessert was the real star and a clear differentiator to other Thai restaurants in London. I love Greggs because it doesn't pretend to be anything else, other than a quick and convenient place where you can pick up a fresh cake or sandwich and drink for less than Â£3! It's great because this ubiquitous sandwich/bakery chain is fast, friendly and excellent value for money! I always end up popping into this Greggs to get a sugar fix of a custard tart or iced bun - and for less than Â£0.40pence...remarkable for central London! One cannot complain. Hobgoblin is a bit of an institution really, having been based in Parkway in Camden for years, it now lives just off Oxford street.

They have a great website too, and a mail order service, so you can have a proper browse online before you decide to buy.

They stock all the instruments you would need to play traditional folk or acoustic instruments, everything from guitars, banjos and harmonicas, to autoharps, mouth harps and melodeons.

The prices are ok, not the cheapest, and sometimes the instruments are not particularly good quality, but as the only place you can step off the street and buy something that isn't a guitar, I suppose they can get away with it.

The service in the shop varies, some of the staff are extremely friendly and helpful, and one or two are the wrong side of flirty or patronising, or something I can't quite name. I certainly don't always feel comfortable shopping here.

I play a fairly unusual instrument, and have learned a lot about it by experience. I therefore know a little more than the staff, and this seems to annoy them when they can't answer my questions.

The spares and strings can be hugely overpriced too, one set of strings for my instrument costs 10 times as much in here as anywhere else, and the quality of cases etc are really quite shoddy.

It is very very cheap to eat here. Four of us went and ate for a total of about thirty nine pounds. We all had an alcoholic drink, a main course with either pilao rice or a naan bread, and also a dessert. All the food tasted very very fresh, but I would expect that as we went on a quiet day. Iâ¬"m surprised there was not more people there to be honest as the quality of the food was excellent. The atmosphere was not the best, but you canâ¬"t have everything for that price. This is by far one of the best dim sum restaurants I've tried in London. I cannot recommend the food enough. My mouth is watering right now as I type this *grin*.

The surroundings are suitably trendy, with an almost nightclub feel. Its lively and tends to get very loud in there. A good venue choice for a social night out with workmates or a hen party.

Regrettably, the service can feel overstretched or inattentive. Last time I dined here I waited over half an hour for the food to arrive after it had been ordered, and that was only after nudging the waiter. Considering how pricey the menu is, they could do more to improve the service.

Not the easiest of places to find- a detailed map is needed to locate this particular gem, unless a handy taxi driver locates it for you. Another fabulous find included in the London Pass, the maze layout of the Pollock Toy Museum enhances the feeling of exploration. Unfortunately this means it is not wheelchair friendly, and may prove difficult for the less mobile (my gran would determinedly struggle through but require medical assistance after) which is a shame as the array of toys on show is wonderful. As a nod to their global visitors, there is a selection of older toys from various countries across the globe, each displayed in a different segment (the displays are not merely contained within rooms but span the entire building- walls, stairs and all!).
