This tapas bar feels like a bit of a Camden institution to me. Itâ¬"s been sat quietly on Inverness Street for as along as I can remember. It pretty much keeps itself to itself, which is good, because if any more people knew about it youâ¬"d never be able to get a seat. The atmosphere is perfect so far as tapas joints go. Hearty, homely, busy, intimate and full of laughs and sangria.

We arrived at Bar Gansa on a Saturday night around 9 oâ¬"clock with six people with some sort of idea in our minds that booking a table would be unnescesary. Thankfully we were proven right. The friendly staff shoved a few tables together in what seemed like barely enough space for four, but we fitted in alright. Knowing a little about tapas I knew what I liked, as did a few others in the group. Together we came up with a list of dishes, we figured two or three per person would be about right, and went ahead and ordered.

Almost.

We were told as we began that the kitchen was out of chorizo. Not a good sign for anywhere Spanish. Oh, and pork. No lomo. No jamon iberico or serrano. As we scanned the menu to see what was left we considered finding somewhere else, but in the face of the late hour and uncertain seating we decided to soldier on. Besides, we already had our Sangria. We were told it had been a particularly busy night but for a kitchen to run out of so many important basics seems more like a lack of foresight, especially if the staples are cured meats - surely over-stocking can never hurt? Itâ¬"s not like theyâ¬"re going to go off tomorrow.

Luckily for us there was still pollo aplenty so we made the best of that, ordering three chicken dishes, some prawns and a variety of veg such as the classic patatas bravas and some garlic mushrooms. None of it really stood out as amazing, but the quality was consistently good across the board with none of the dishes letting down the side. The chicken was juicy, the sauces rich, the patatas very bravary. The only downside was that we hadnâ¬"t ordered quite enough and managed to pick the dishes clean.

The bill came in at a very pleasant 15 quid each, though I donâ¬"t think an extra dish each would have gone amiss, so perhaps 20 is a more reasonable average. Iâ¬"ll be heading back soon, hopefully this time with a booking and a little earlier in the day so I can sample the real meat.

Talking burgers can quite often evoke and arouse disputations and deliberations among the beef patty cognoscenti on where to go for the best sandwich in town. Iâ¬"ve been prompted a few times that the burgers served at The Ivy and Maze Grill are the best in London. Iâ¬"ve tried the one (AA Gillâ¬"s determinate choice) at the former on two occasions and it was nothing spectacular, soggy and rather slapdash, and as for the latter I think Iâ¬"ll only go there for the steaks. If an equivalent of the Premiership league was suggested for restaurants serving the best burgers in the country then I will not hesitate to say that HachÃ© belongs to one of the "Big Four".

These posh tasting steak hachÃ© burgers are indeed bespoke and thankfully they donâ¬"t cost the earth. Wonderful innovations on the burgers are offered from the Atkins friendly version of Steak Au Naturel to the Le Sicilian (with Parma Ham and melted Premium Mozarella Cheese). Pescitarians can also be equally elated with HachÃ©â¬"s choices of delicious chunky Cod and Tuna burgers. Both fat and thin (to comply with the French theme) chips are available as sides. The puddings are pretty much accomplished; the delicious Banoffee Pie is gregarious in size so itâ¬"s not entirely applicable to the solo diner and the superior Chocolate Brownies served with Ice Cream are dangerous enough to postpone any imminent diets. The ambience is lively, crowded and the lighting in the dining room annoyingly incandescent. The service in restaurants of this ilk can be hit or miss, so good luck; but donâ¬"t let that get in the way of the food.

To the Casey family who owns this joint, I take me hat off and please do not turn your fine efforts into a GBK, FBC, ABC, or XYZ chain.

Mai Sushi is a small family restaurant in a quiet, but central location. The place itself has a very basic dÃ©cor, more like a cafe than a restaurant really but it's plain, clean and unfussy which is no bad thing really. The staff are really very lovely, they seem genuinely friendly and are both helpful and knowledgeable. They've recently started putting a few tables outside on the pavement under their awning which we really enjoyed. The street is wide and there seems to be a lot of interesting stuff going on.
Food wise, the sushi is excellent, there's a wide range of to choose from and it's made fresh and delicious. One slight downside is that the non-sushi dishes I've had there are really quite awful, the noodles are bland and tasteless for example but if you stick to the sushi and it is, of course, a sushi restaurant you'll be more than fine. Particularly good are the bento boxes where you get a huge amount of different types of fish for a very reasonable Â£12. My partner was really knocked out by the soft shell crab. That brings me to one of the most excellent things about Mai Sushi - the price. It really is very reasonable, particularly for the area and the quality of the cooking.
If you're stuck at Kings Cross or Euston and don't fancy any of the over priced corparate fare on offer, just pop a couple of street over to Mai Sushhi, it's a really lovely, simple and unpretentious place.Mai Sushi is a small family restaurant in a quiet, but central location. I booked tickets to see Nitin Sawhney play live alongside a number of multi-talented musicians from around the world. The tickets were not cheap at Â£35.00 each, but it was an experience I will not forget. The venue is quite small, but this gives a really cosy feel, especially you will never be more than a few meters away from the stage - keeping you close to the musicians.

A meal could have been included for around another Â£20.00 per ticket, but this option had sold out a number of weeks before the event had taken place. This would have been an excellent way to enjoy the performance, as the dining area is set on the first floor, overlooking the stage. However, I certainly wasn't disappointed with dinner tickets being sold out, as I was able to get very close to the front of the crowd and really appreciate the live show. I decided to try out Asakusa on reading the reviews on Trusted Places and.....you're ALL right- its ace!

I took everyones advice and booked a table. Upstairs was reccomended but we could only get downstairs, which I enjoyed all the same.
The sushi and sashimi took a while but we filled the time by having amazing starters such as half an aubergine cooked in a sweet rich sauce, broccoli cooked to perfection [not too soft] with a sweet sauce and delicious japanese fish cakes.

the food just kept on coming.

The sashimi was beautiful and we couldnt eat all the sushi so they let us take it home in a little box.

Yes it is a bit grimey but more authentic and yes, next time I will try something off the menus written in japanese on the wall!!!

Can't wait to go again and tell all my friends! : )

Paresthesia (sensation of numbness) of the mouth is part and parcel of dining at this place. Thankfully this manifestation is not at all chronic, but downright alluring. Secondly thereâ¬"s also the small matter of the Scoville scale, if you thought that the Vindaloo dish was only fit for the chilli heroes; well not here it doesnâ¬"t, it simply turns the hotness of the Vindaloo into the pussycat category. Lastly, discerning foodies who crave entrails and offal, your nirvana is here.

Iâ¬"ve been here a few times and I still canâ¬"t make my mind whether Bar Shu or Snazz Sichuan is the definitive Sichuan joint in London. I suppose that the ambience of Bar Shu is more luxurious and warmer and the cooking at Snazz measurably more authentic. We started with some outstanding Sichuan-style marinated beef slices (a very hot tasting cold dish). The next two dishes ordered were not for the offally challenged; Fire-exploded beef tripe (mild!!) and Special cooked pigâ¬"s blood (think red tofu) casserole (devastatingly hot, my dining companion thought it was very nearly inedible). These dishes were a testament to the chefâ¬"s understanding on turning the acquired blandness of offal into total yumminess. The final dish of Fried bitter melon with green and red pepper was requisite in providing calm and normality to the taste buds after the chilli frenzy. Dishes I also recommend from my past visits include Fish soup with pickled greens and Fire-exploded kidney flowers.

The friendly waiter kept reminding us that this is the real Chinese food and it has no equals. Thatâ¬"s all very well, but methinks Cantonese cuisine is more universally acceptable. I love this place and so should Fergus Henderson, what with pigâ¬"s tail, chitterlings, ears, tripe, tongue, etc.

I go here for the lunchtime buffet (mon-fri and Â£6.95 all you can eat) and the Thalis (a 3-course meal all served together in separate small pots), which are all fantastic. Great range of food and lovely taste - on the spicier side, so be warned if you like your Indian food bland, this place then may not be for you! The decor is basic - wooden benches in boothes and small tables and the service can be poor (I have had staff grunting at me for tips with hands out for the cash before). The reason to go here though is for the food - if you plan on enjoying the buffet, make sure you get in for between 12 - 1pm. The buffet is very, very popular with locals and business people and if you leave it too much later than 1pm to arrive, there won't be much food left for your money. If you arrive in good time, there's rice, breads, curries, fried spiced vegetables, salads, sauces - and all homecooked and fresh. The Viet Anh Cafe is only 200m from Camden Town tube station but located on parkway seemingly away from most of the bustle of the Camden Market crowd. Three of us dined here and we shared starters of Deep Fried Crispy Tofu and Prawn Toast, both Â£3.50 each. The main courses are "complete" dishes based on protein with rice or soft or crisp noodle accompaniment. I ordered the Beef Pho Soup and the dish arrived in less than 10 minutes. Perhaps 5 minutes. Some of the beef was almost rare, but not quite rare enough on the whole. Still, all main dishes ordered here were under Â£6 and three of us dined for under Â£26 with tea as our drink. It was packed, but we didn't feel pressured to leave quickly. Greek is one of my favourite cuisines so have been to quite a few different ones but this one is the one we come back to time and time again! its cheap at only Â£14.50 pp for the meze and they do a gorgeous greek wine, thisbe, for about the same price. Service is friendly and quick, the food delicious and generous! First course is the hot pita bread and dips (houmous, taramasalata, cucumber style one, prawns in rose marie sauce, plate of small prawns, crabstick, and another one) then a gorgeous greek salad with feta, with this comes a large plate of fried calamari and grilled king prawns. After these comes the meat course - lamb, chicken, greek sausage, haloumi and gammon... amazing. You know what you're getting â¬ there's an extensive menu of tonnes of noodle dishes, service â¬ however busy the restaurant is (which it usually is) is fast, and the large portions always taste good. Staff are generally very friendly at this branch and willing to customise your order if you prefer different types of noodles etc. It's also very reasonably priced. Like most Wagamamas, you sit at large tables generally next to strangers but no one seems to mind â¬ even though this is London. This Malaysian-themed restaurant and bar is great for a party â¬ it has a funky vibe with great chilled out music and excellent food. The nori wrapped salmon was delicious. And there are several curries too. Desserts â¬ like crispy fried banana with toffee â¬ are only for those with a very sweet tooth but well worth trying. Strada - Strada by Snowy

We had a lovely meal at Strada last night. We went as a group of 6 of us at the last minute because the noodle place we thought we would go to no longer seemed to exist! We were all happy with what we ordered. It came on time and was tasty. I think the pizzas are good value but if you go for a main there possibly isn't enough of it. I could see my one of my mates looked a little hungry when he finished. I love the way Strada offers you free water and it didnâ¬"t matter that we turned up quite late in the evening they were still happy to serve us and we got a table straight away with no waiting even though it was a little busy.We had a lovely meal at Strada last night. Whenever I'm in London I always make sure I make a visit to The Kitchen. A funky, relaxed cafÃ©, the food is great and the staff friendly.
It's great to hear the place is now bookable and as has been suggested before, get the window seatâ¬¦ perfectly romantic.

This place is awesome- even more so since the smoking ban...the only time I ever had a slightly bad experience here was when someone started smoking near me after one of their customarily fantastic meals!

The food always tastes really fresh- I tend to go for a giant bowl of soup noodles, which is basically a great soup base with lots of fresh herbs and vegetables thrown in, and a whole bunch of king prawns.

I like the fact that it always arrives really quickly as well- there's obviously no defrosting going on.

The prices are great as well- two people can easily eat for fifteen quid, or if you want to have trouble walking out, you could have some side dishes and spend twenty quid.

Pizza Express is bassically a glammed up version of Pizza Hut but a very good one at that. The food is freshly made on the premises and is delicous. The staff are lovely and the restaurant has a posh and modern feel to it. They do not only serve pizza. Pasta and salad is also on the menu. The pizza at pizza express is more rustic and italian than that served at pizza hut. My review is based on the lunchtime buffet menu, the only time I really go here as you can literally stuff yourself all for a great price, though I can't remember what at the top of my head.

They have a really good selection of authentic Indian dishes, again this is a vegetarian curry house and there are a lot down Drummond Street so take your pick, but I'd highly recommend this one.

The service is really good and they are really friendly people in there, you get the feeling of a really traditional family business.

Miso is great, the portions are always huge and the prices are low. There is a lot of choice on the menu, which is why I prefer it to Wagamamas, and i've almost had all of the dishes (and they have all been nice). I recommend Beef Steak, Pad Thai, Mixed Seafood, Thai Green Curry and the Satay Chicken and Prawn. There is always enough for one, but a side dish of fried sqiud and chicken gyoza is always nice to accompany any main. The service is good and there is a nice relaxed atmosphere. Being in Camden and serving damn good food, this place is unsurprisingly busy, so you might have to wait for a table if you haven't booked. I reckon it's worth the wait though - not the cheapest restaurant in the world, but still good value and the sushi is really fresh and excellent quality. The bento boxes are great too. The waiters can look a little fraught, but overall my experience of the service has bene good (though I know some reviewers have had negative experiences). This Pizza Express is just a few minutes walk away from the main junction at Camden tube station on Parkway.

It is a small Pizza Express and has two floors, the downstairs is down some small steps where they have lavatories as well. The top floor looks onto the street and you might get a window table which is not a bad thing if you don't mind people seeing you from right outside. The downstairs section has no windows and so outside views.

If you like Pizza Express, then you will like having this one locally and near the main junction with all the other shops and travel connections by public transport close by.

A group of us met for a birthday celebration last night. I was a little disappointed that they had given away our reservation in the garden, but then we were 15 minutes late. They were very apologetic and offered to re-seat us after 30 min but we opted to stay in the perfectly acceptable but unexciting - even boring - main restaurant.

There was luckily nothing boring about the menu when it arrived. A wide range of meat, fish and vegetarian tapas that were interesting and well described. We had some delicious broad bean dip, as well as a garlicky fresh mayonaise and a rather oily crushed nut dish for starters while we pondered our options.

Two tapas dishes apiece was more than adequate, so we didnt get round to even looking at the dessert menu.... there was lots of choice and plenty of sharing washed down with a very nice Spanish house red. And tap water came in a large pitcher, along with the fizzy we had ordered.

The food was very tasty, with the veggie options especially well presented. I had a sweet potato dish with roast onions and feta cheese, melt in the mouth yummy, and a delicious if less generous octopus tentacle. Other notable dishes were a grilled red tipalia from the daily specials, and a beautifully tender marinaded steak (which I wish I'd ordered).
