Probably one of the best sushi restaurants in town. You'd expect it to be somewhere more central as it's very unassuming and an unlikely find unless you know it's there. It's very popular though especially with Japanese people which is always a good sign of authentic Japanese food. Staff don't always speak perfect English so you might need to be patient. But they are generally polite and the food â¬ which ranges from plainer sashimi dishes to ones in sauces and fried â¬ is amazing. It's more pricey than chains like Yo! Sushi and you order from a menu rather than seeing your food first which makes it a bit more formal. There's a lovely seating area for groups of about five to ten people near the back where you take off your shoes and can all sit round a table together. Saki is a must.

I loved the food and the service. It was awesome from the beginning to the end. The food was fresh, crispy and tasty. The service was of outstanding quality and the staff was friendly. This a good place to have the craic and meet people. There is a great atmosphere here, like a traditional friendly Irish pub. This pub is part of the Angies chain and is similar to the others in that it has a small dark interior and is quite cosy. They do a good selection of beers and other drinks. There is a juke box playing songs in the corner, but the atmospher is geared towards socialising. The staff are friendly and althought the pub is very busy they work hard and manage to serve quickly and with a pleasant smile and bit of chatter as they do it. There is not much in the way of food though and really it is more for a drink than a food pub.This a good place to have the craic and meet people. Asolutely brilliant cure for all hangovers.
Great breakfast menu and also for lunch and dinner, but you would have to try one of the breakfasts for sure.
Abviously don't be going to Pedro's for a candle light dinner with your loved one or with your boss for that matter,unless you find that construction site workers and old dears going by the name betty help you along for finding a little romance but if you dreaming of the best hangover cure or simply a bit of TLC comfort food then Pedro's is your place!
Also I love the idea of ordering an orange juice and then a litre glass bottle comes to your table like being back at primary school,same applies for milk.
The custom is very friendly and if you become a bit of a regular they've even been known to remember your name.
Good,Great Irish cooking even though its run by eastern europeans with an Irish heart and this is of course expressed through they're delicious food.
Warning! It's all very well going to Pedro's hungry, but be sure to not order more then you need as the portions are colossal! which is always great and far from stingy, far,far,far.

Recently visited with a party of friends and sampled the buffet menu.

Not your usual queue up and choose from pre cooked dishes containing far too many onions.

All food is ordered and freshly cooked.

THE NAME
Mezzaluna is Italian for half moon or middle moon if you prefer to remember it that way. You know how the month starts with the full moon, later the half moon - ah! I learned that at reception in their restaurant

The proprietors are David Philpott and Alex Ross, according to the address card I picked up when I was there. I keep their card pinned on a board in the hall alongside a lot of other restaurant cards, in alphbatical order.

Their card is both grandest and most useful when you are trying to persuade somebody else that this is where you should go to eat. On the front of the card is a picture of the restaurant with the name address phone and fax numbers.

It's a double card, like a small book cover. The middle double page spread has testimonials from Time Out, the Ham & High (short for Hampstead and Highgate - the local newspaper) and from Fay Maschler of the Evening Standard.

On the right are the opening times, the webpage www.philpotts-mezzaluna.com and a handy map.

On the back are pictures of two dishes and of David Philpott.

FOOD
Seriously good food. I go there to eat foie gras at affordable prices. And truffles - the savoury sort.

Desserts are wonderful. I like to choose a chocolate concoction. We once left a friend's husband at home babysitting and we took him back a dessert as consolation.

The menu changes every Sunday. A sample menu is on the website and they say you can phone them to ask for the current menu.

BOOKING
You must book. It's not that big.

OPENING TIMES
Lunch noon to 2.30. Sunday noon until 3 pm.
Closed Saturday lunch and Monday. Dinner 7 pm until 11 pm.

SERVICE
Service charge is 12 and a half per cent. No comment.

Eating raw chicken can kill you. We survived to tell the story.

Hi folks, just want to advise caution here...

My wife and I would love to say all is well at Little Star and no cross contamination occurred when we were served raw chicken last month; we would love to recommend this place - we had been faithful clients and had been there on many, many occasions. However the owner didn't even respond to the letter we sent out to complain about the way we've been treated. Shocking.

We were even made to pay for our meal! No apology, no sense of urgency! "I don't want to f***ing die" would have said chef Ramsay!!

We now know why they call it "The Chicken"...

Seriously, if food poisoning was not a serious issue I would have just forgotten about it. But we are not talking about dirty crockery or lousy ambiance (none of which can be found there - Little Star was one of our favourites for the longest time - we've even taken friends there with us!!)
