Cannons Health Club - Please ignore other person's review! by roanna

Ive been a member there for years, and for £65-£73 a month membership this is a bargain for a decent gym in a decent area.. The airconditioning was broken for 2 weeks and now it has been fixed and is very pleasant, for claustrophobic people I'm sorry but places like Virgin Active and LA Fitness are much much worse, Cannons has a triple height ceiling, yes it is in the basement but if the ceiling is almost 10 meters above you I dont think that is claustrophobic! What other gym doesnt get busy after work? Im there almost every day and the only busy times after work are on a Monday, I never queue for machines. The Hydro Pool is amazing, your should see peoples faces when they sit in it for the first time! It massages all those sore muscles, its better than a Jacuzzi. The gym is clean (not perfectly clean) but cleaner than other places i've seen! I love the trainers there, some of them will help you out and train you, give you advice if you ask them to without having to pay a penny! The only bad point is for those muscle builders out there, the weights area is quite small. The cardio area however is great.

Anyway, i just had to say all this and stick up for my gym because right now Im working in Mayfair and live in Kensington so Cannons Covent Garden isn't easily accessable for me, I must say that I cannot find a gym with amazing facilities like this one and thats why I trek to Covent Garden every day.

Hope this changes your thoughts,
R
Can I just say that the review before mine about Cannons is absolute nonsense.
The Sanctuary - Been going for years... by snackerjack

Review by snackerjack

Rating: 4.00
Phone: 0870 770 3350

Website: http://www.thesanctuary.co.uk

Tags: massage
Here are the facts about the Sanctuary:

It is for women only, you will only find women there. I have been going for about 18 years and tend to go once or twice a year. I have seen many many changes over the years. I would say its become more commercialised with the business looking to give less for more (£'s). There was once a time that you could go and it would be quite quiet, but there seems to be more and more larger parties going. There are lots of things to do in there; large pool surrounded by juccuzi (only 4 people at a time), sauna and steam room. Large Koi carp area there are refreshments and another pool. Another jucuzzi upstairs which holds 10. Another sauna tucked away - most people dont find it but its there. Restaurant - I feel its got very expensive over the years and you get very small portions. My ideal is to go in the area where you buy the products. There are sofas in there and you can order better stuff and eat it on the sofas. Afternoon tea is good - go for the scones - you get 2 large ones and they are lovely. Treatment prices have soared and in my opinion they are expensive for what you get. If you want to visit this place, but its too expensive, my recommendation is that you try and buy vouchers sold on ebay (thats what I do). Here are the facts about the Sanctuary:

It is for women only, you will only find women there.
Hairy Fairy - Scary hairy by kachika

Review by kachika

Rating: 2.00I went to Hairy Fairy after admiring my sisters' new haircut she had done there.

It's in Covent Garden, and you don't need an appointment. A standard cut and blow dry is £13, which is very cheap for central London...but this is WHY it's so cheap:

My hair was washed. The hairdresser then yanked a brush through my wet hair, rather than gently combing it as you are supposed to.

I was having a lot of hair taken off, and was quite anxious about it. I didn't feel as though any care was taken over it, the cut literally took two minutes.

My hair was then roughly blow dried with no product or brush used to style it. The hairdryer was on the hottest setting and practically burnt my ear off.

My hair looked a state and had no shape to it. I was in and out in ten minutes.

I felt quite upset immediately, but once I had styled my hair at home myself, I liked the cut.

I wouldn't go back again though. I felt a bit intimidated by the staff and it seemed like a production line rather then somewhere they actually care about how the customer feels and looks.I went to Hairy Fairy after admiring my sisters' new haircut she had done there.

It's in Covent Garden, and you don't need an appointment.
