Strand Palace Hotel - A bit down at heel, but ok by coldclimate

The hallways are quite shabby, with the plywood panel doors being badly scratched and the carpets looking pretty tired. The rooms are densely packed, and it's quite noisy.

My room is a "deluxe double" and is about twelve square with a small bathroom attached. It does have proper wooden shutters through which help keep out the noise of the street below more than curtains would be.

So, its far from a luxury stay, and for the same money you could stay in some much nicer places, but probably not quite as handy for the city centre.

So basically it's OK, just a bit shabby.Sitting right in the middle of the Strand, just across the road from the Savoy, The Strand Palace is an eight floor hotel which is about as close to the theaters as it's possible to be (so long as that theater is the one currently showing Joseph).

Despite the very shiny reception area, and the coated doorman opening the unfeasibly heavy front doors, it is however far from a palace.
St Martin's Lane - Hotel bars are the way to go by sokratis

It started out on the poshest of locations around 6pm and ended up in the exact opposite around 3am. I'll start with the classiest of the locations St Martin's Lane Hotel Bar.

If you appreciate excellently designed spaces you'll like this one. The hotel is architected to be more of an experience rather than just a place you sleep in, which is reflected in all the function areas like the bar. Very aesthetically pleasing. Great décor and ambience and a lot of beautiful - some of them achingly so- people too. You pay for all of that though two bottles of Tiger beer = £11. Now, that is expensive!
The bar features a wide selection of wine, beer and spirits. You'll find quite a few brands, not commonly seen in your standard bar or pub. The location is also great, being moments away from Leicester Square. If you want a quick business meeting in central London, this is an excellent choice. It's also a good one to go later on as it stays open until 3am. Don't be put off by the cost and do give it a try as it's quite a unique place.

The restaurant looks pretty cool too, but better go there with a nice corporate credit card.
I had a funny Friday evening out a couple of weeks back.
