Katana is ideal for a pre theatre meal, as the Duke of York's theatre is round the corner. We reserved a table for two, the set menu at Â£14.95.
Poor choice on the menu, so we asked to see the Ã la carte menu. The prices were outrageous so we stuck to the set menu.
Thai Green and Red Curries were very bland, rice and noodles were an added cost. We will not return.

Wahaca, a trendy new Mexican restaurant near Covent Garden, is a busy place. Arriving at 6pm (pre-theatre) there was already a queue. Thankfully it was a short wait and we were soon seated in a good position with a view of the kitchen.

This is not the place for a lingering romantic meal - it is large, noisy, and service is fast. Perfect for a quick meal before heading elsewhere. Staff are everywhere and several different people attended to our needs throughout the meal.

Wahaca specialises in "Mexican Market Eating", serving up small portions perfect for sharing - Mexican tapas if you like. You can order a "Wahaca Selection" - a set platter with an assortment of small dishes, or make up your own selection. They also have larger meals, such as Burritos, Enchiladas or even a steak, and the various salads served in a crispy tortilla bowl looked great.

We ordered a selection of dishes along with the Wahaca Selection, between four of us. The food was plentiful, cheap and delicious. Particularly loved the steak tacos and the side dishes of frijoles and esquites.

For dessert we shared some Mango sorbet (icy delicious), and some Churros y chocolate - Mexican donuts which you dip in a rich chocolate sauce. After being spoilt by the beautiful surroundings of the Nottingham Pitcher & Piano (its in an old church), I found this Pitcher & Piano to be far less to look at. It was a quiet evening, but the place was in reasonable use, no empty tables. I found the bar staff to be friendly.

Maybe because it was the day after boxing day, but I found it to be a very lacking service. The waiter had to be called on every occasion, showing that he was either new or just didn't care. The food was sub par - being at my kindest, and the dessert was so awful that I felt obliged to complain on behalf of my dinner guests. The manager wasn't particularly apologetic, another thing that irked, but at least took it off our bill.

Tables are far to close to each other so don't come here for a discrete meal.

The fish is always fresh and well prepared stick to simple dishes like dressed crab and a dover soul meuniere and you will not be disappointed.

The wine list is good if on the expensive side.

I cannot think of many better fish restaurants in London.

Leon is well know for its "food thatâ¬"s good for you and quickly" ethos, and much of this is due to it's founder's (Allegra McEvedy and Fred Dickieson) outlook on food.

Leon on the Stand was very handy on my way back to the hotel, and having both eaten in and taken away, I was quietly impressed. The food is really very simple, with rices and salads being very dry and not running with oils, and flavours not cluttered with 47 different ingredients. The service is super quick, partly because the majority of the food is actually cooked elsewhere and then simply constructed and heated on the premesis - but at least they are open about this unlike the majortiy of fast fooid which strives to get you to think that everything have been made there on the premises from milling the corn upwards.

The deserts are worth mentioning, as was the coffee. I had the warm lemon and ginger cake with icecream and it was mindn bendingly wonderful. Not strongly flavoured, but with a great sticky base and a texture not unlike ground almonds. My dinner companion had the lemon cheesecake, and it too was just great. A biscuity base with a couple of inches of set lemon on top, not the "shaving foam on a digestive biscuit" which always gets passed off as the real thing.

Coffee was dark and strong, smelled great and even came with the wedge of lemon I requested (yeah, know, I'm odd). The total bill, less than Â£30 for two people eating as much as they want, in very pleasant surroundings.

Sitting right in the middle of the Strand, just across the road from the Savoy, The Strand Palace is an eight floor hotel which is about as close to the theaters as it's possible to be (so long as that theater is the one currently showing Joseph).

Despite the very shiny reception area, and the coated doorman opening the unfeasibly heavy front doors, it is however far from a palace. The hallways are quite shabby, with the plywood panel doors being badly scratched and the carpets looking pretty tired. The rooms are densely packed, and it's quite noisy.

My room is a "deluxe double" and is about twelve square with a small bathroom attached. It does have proper wooden shutters through which help keep out the noise of the street below more than curtains would be.

So, its far from a luxury stay, and for the same money you could stay in some much nicer places, but probably not quite as handy for the city centre.

Walking into this restaurant, you are instantly greeted by friendly and extremely polite waitors/waitresses, namely Pino the most attentive and smiley of all waitors in there, where no request is too much. The atmosphere oozes romance yet creates a comforting homely feeling brought about by the dim lighting from flickering tea lights on every table and the perfect volume jazzy type music. You instantly relax knowing you are in good hands. The food is exquisite and perfectly cooked, the portions are ideal and the wine is not something to be missed (I recommend the Portugese red wine). There isn't much choice as far as Tex-Mex goes in London. This is one of the better options but that's not really saying much.

The food is passable, roughly equivalent to the mexican dishes at places like Chilis, TGIF or Hard Rock Cafe but with a much larger Tex-Mex menu. There is quite an extensive margherita menu and the couple that I had were tasty. Food is a little on the expensive side, but the portions are very large and prices are equivalent to other American chain restaurants.

If you want to take a visitor to London anywhere, then I recommend this. They won't beleive it passes any health regs at all and that you are actually allowed in. It has character oozing from every crack and peeling of paint.
This is the best and last great winery in London. There is a dark dank under pavement cellars that you practically have to crawl down. Fantastic, you can drink port by the pint! If you get there and stay sober long enough you may even line your stomach with some fantastic cheese and bread, which I can heartily recommend. Saved me more than once. Great quality cheeses and breads and classically simple.

The venue is great and inventive, not least because its a Philippe Starck Hotel. The bar has these quirky little tables, that seem to have no other purpose other than to warm up you drink, but in a fun way! The atmosphere is sophisticated and trendy. The food is good, but not great and at Â£15-25'ish per starter or Â£20-40'ish per main course is pretty pricey. However the meals are for sharing so you don't order a starter and main each unless you want to pop! Best dish was the Miso Cured Black Cod (I hope its from sustainable stocks, if you go please ask, I didn't).
I also have issues with restaurants that have house wines in the Â£35 per bottle range no matter where it is. Especially if its a wine that you can normally get for Â£8.50 in your local off-licence. This was one of those restaurants.

We had our corporate Christmas party here this week, the food was average, the waiting staff were efficient, but the management were attrocious. We had arranged and paid for a bar area after our meal where we could entertain guests. After the meal we were asked to go downstairs to our arranged entertaining area only to find this barred to us. The had sneakily arranged another party to use this space and would not entaertain any arguments, it left our Christmas party standing on a gangplank in the freezing cold locked out of a boat we had booked. Disgraceful behaviour from a venue that was too greedy for the Corporate Christmas Buck. PJ's Grill is my favourite London restaurant. It's got a winning formula of convenient location, consistent food, good wine, friendly service and reasonable prices. I must have eaten there on two or three dozen occasions, have worked my way through the entire menu, and have never been disappointed. It's always busy, but comes across as cosy rather than cramped. The meat is good - excellent pork belly, good steak, and what is in my opinion the best hamburger in London. It's well worth getting to know PJ's - regulars are welcomed with genuine warmth and friendliness, and the brass plaques above each table and photographs on the walls show some of the notable regulars. A truly dreadful pub - AVOID AVOID AVOID! I visited the Round Table last night with friends. I was totally ignored by the barmaid who continuously served people arriving to the bar after me, when I spoke to her about this she simply smiled and carried on serving other people. I asked to speak to the manager, but he could not be bothered to come and speak to me as he was more interested in rolling cigarettes. Instead he tried to conduct a conversation with me from about 6 feet away. I told him that the barmaid was only serving her friends in preference to anyone else, his reply was that "they are not friends they are regulars" - as though that makes it any better! I told him it was a disgrace and that I had been waiting to be served over 15 minutes - his response, he called me a liar and closed the door of his office on me. This is a truly dreadful pub - it is quite clear that they do not care about providing a decent service because its the sort of pub that will always be busy because of its location. Motion is literally next door to the Embankment tube station and hence is an ideal location for that after work drinks party.

They have an excellent events management team and make it as easy as possible for you to organize your works/social occasions.

They also have weekly karaoke and tribute nights, all you 'Dancing Queens' will need to book your bags into the cloakroom. Let's all do the loco-motion.

Cafe in the Crypt is one of the pseudo-hidden gems of London and one of my all time favourite places to linger over a cup of tea or a late lunch/early dinner. The food is all freshly prepared and excellent value. It's self-service along a buffet, but after that it's tables tucked under stone arches and ambient music. They do regular jazz nights as well. The long and short of it is that this place does pretty good Mexican food, isn't massively expensive and does great cocktails. Happy hour prices kick in about five and carry on til seven, so you can easily grab a cheap pitcher of margarita and have it serve you well throughout dinner.

I don't know if I'd come here if I was in the market for some fine dining-type experience, but to be honest when you've a taste for some refried beans and something involving corn tortillas, this place will suit you down to the ground. Main courses up to Â£10, mostly, good sized portions too, service efficient and not abusive, which is well above par by London standards, I reckon.The long and short of it is that this place does pretty good Mexican food, isn't massively expensive and does great cocktails. Happy hour prices kick in about five and carry on til seven, so you can easily grab a cheap pitcher of margarita and have it serve you well throughout dinner.
