This is my favourite pub in the world (well out of the small number of pubs that i have been to in the entire world). The bar staff are really friendly which is a pretty standard description of staff but here they really seem to take an interest in you and chat with you whilst pouring you your pint. Secondly the pub has a very nice interior with tables and couches witch gives it a really very nice feel which is not always easily maintained in other pubs. The drinks are reasonably priced, neither expensive or cheap and they have a huge variety. All in all i really cannot reccomend this pub enough. If your every in the belsize park area then you shoudl reaally check it out, the nearest stations are belsize park and chalk farm which are both on the northern line.This is my favourite pub in the world (well out of the small number of pubs that i have been to in the entire world). Situated just opposite Camden Town's Stables Market, The Lock Tavern is a splendid place to while away a sunny summer's afternoon or evening with its luscious garden bar and terrace. Somewhat labyrinthian in layout it is decked out downstairs with comfy leather sofas and has a classy but cool atmosphere. Usually rammed with Camden's finest trendy young things, there are weekend gigs upstairs and the place exudes that "happening" Camden vibe. They also do reasonable pub grub and the usual british selection of beers. The main attractions are the locale, the foliage bedecked garden and the indie music oriented terrace. A fine place to sink a few ales with a few good mates and the scenery of the female kind (and male I've been told) is generally easy on the eyes. Welcome to the Marathon Bar, Camden's hazy crazy last chance saloon! Is it a kebab shop, is it a bar, or is it the final resting place for Camden Town's die hard alcoholics and desperados? Herein you will find all manner of drunken cheerfulness and legendary French rock n roller Daniel strumming his geetar and skwawking his glorious way through Chuck Berry songs. In my opinion its the 2nd best boozer in NW3 after the hill across the road. First up its a huge old victorian boozer that retains its olde world charm.The locals are friendly enough around here. Good selection of beers on offer and the Thai food is excellent at Â£5 a plate. I love the upstairs with its battered leather sofas. A good spot for a party. Downstairs the beer garden is a must in the summer. big and plenty of seats.

Proud doesn't give a good first impression. When you enter, you go through a large, usually empty room (unless you get there late), and wonder if you have come to a bar, or what?! Then you turn the corner, and with relief see a bar with lots of people in, in the old Camden stables. It's really nice, I like the decor, I like the music, and the live music can be quite good. The staff have been really friendly anytime I have been there. It's become a firm favourite and semi-regular haunt.Proud doesn't give a good first impression. Went there on one of the first sunny day of May 2008...
It was nice to sit outside for a change! We ordered chicken which was very tasty. There was no connection between the name and the place... I wonder why it is called Monkey Chews...It was Wednesday evening and there weren't many people around.

The Freemasons Arms is a great ending to a nice day in Hampsted Heath if youâ¬"re finishing on the south-west (if youâ¬"re heading north-east then Cafe Mozart on Swains Lane is a excellent option too). Very spacious and with a modern, slick finish it serves a variety of beers and ciders. One of the best outdoor spaces in the area and a great kitchen that serves what youâ¬"d expect by the â¬ÜWinner of the Sunday Independent/ LBC Gastro Pub of the Year!â¬". Be prepared to wait for a table on a sunny Sunday afternoon as the place gets very busy. Of course be also prepared to be surrounded by yummy mummies, Â£500+ baby carts, noisy small children and generally the rest of the Sunday family squad that descends on Hampsteadâ¬"s surrounding areas on a weekend.
Donâ¬"t let that put you off though. The Freemasons is still one of the best places to enjoy a drink and a bite after a hard days navigating the heights of the Heath.

Been here at least a handful of times (when in the neighbourhood) and it has never disappointed. Terrific grub - the cottage pie is my favourite and I've heard their Sunday roast is to drool for. Service is pretty good. The place is eclectically decorated, managing to look very cool and comfortable at the same time. At the back, there is an outdoors area where it's lovely to sit when the sun is shining and also a conservatory for when the sun isn't shining. We were expecting some gastro food here... Timeout critic choice you know... Our friends who live nearby said the food is great...
I ordered the duck salad. I was not enlightened at all... It was a salad with some beans, lettuce, plums and duck...
The plums, which were supposed to be the Ükick' ,actually didn't fit with the over salty duck.
My friend had a pizza with anchovies ,capers and egg.
On the first bite, this appeared to be a nice looking pizza but then we consulted with out Italian authorities:
'A good example of Napolitana pizza but the dough is too thin...'
'you can get a similar pizza at Zizzi for £3 less...' (the price was £9 which is pricy for what you get...)
The olived we ordered from the bar were juicy and amazing!
The staff were nice and responsive! We might give this place a second chance but we were indifferent for the culinary experience this time...Visited on 25/07/07.

Absolutely wonderful and generous tapas portions although I can't tell you what the mains are like because when I visited they were renevating and only serving tapas.

The atmosphere is about ten steps above 'lively' and would wander into 'rowdy' territory as the restaurant/bar hosts a sort of open mike night for bands of all descriptions. If you are after a quiet night of gazing into your loved ones eyes over a mohito, this is not the place for you.

If you like something different and enjoy up and coming live bands and don't mind noise and chaos while you dine then definitely check it out. Absolutely wonderful and generous tapas portions although I can't tell you what the mains are like because when I visited they were renevating and only serving tapas.

And now for instalment 4. Bar Tok seems like a nice bar usually. It's got a late license for Friday, but I would not recommend it after 1am. If you're into 40+ year old women, cheesy music and crowded atmosphere go if not, don't.
