Beautiful food and setting makes a meal out a luxurious event.

The spices are delicate and well balanced. Even when hot you can actually taste all the flavours not just feel a burning heat.

Well worth ordering fish and seafood dishes so that you can experience how to complement with spices rather than killing the flavour that you find with fish in many Indian restaurants.

Good mixture of british food and ingredients in their menus just approached with modern Indian freshness.

Cocktails are a must. Real luxury treat in the bar. Best I've even had.

I am surprised that 11 people have sung the praises of Tate Modern, but its poor relation, Tate Britain, seems to have been ignored so far. I wonder why this is - the building is arguably much more beautiful, dating from 1897, on a site previously occupied by a prison. What's not to like? The riverside at Millbank is calmer, the pace more relaxed for visitors, giving stellar views towards Westminster.

As for the art, some of my favourites are housed in the permanent collection here: John William Waterhouse's 'The Lady of Shalott', John Singer Sargent's 'Ellen Terry as Lady Macbeth', 'The Bath of Psyche' by Lord Leighton and some noted works by Stubbs, Gainsborough, and Hogarth. Just as impressive as the feted exhibitions in the Turbine Hall, and the surroundings are a great deal more peaceful!

The gallery comes alive on the first of every month with special 'Late at Tate' evenings, designed to correspond with the main exhibition going on at the time. There are usually free talks, live music, djs, half-price admission to the paid exhibitions and lots of fabulously artsy, liberated (drunken) people to watch.

It might not be as famous as Tate Modern, but itâ¬"s definitely not the fusty older sibling, either. Definitely worth a look - many, in fact. And if you still prefer the other one, you can always hop back on the river boat linking the two.

Gastro1 is absolutely right. Don't try too hard to decide on the menu. Youâ¬"re much better to allow the very friendly and discrete staff to take care of you. Let them know how hungry you are and if you have any general preferences and they will happily oblige. I went there with one of the venueâ¬"s best customers who knows the owner for about 20 years now, so had even more reason to sit back and simply enjoy.
Of course you have to be prepared for the downside. The food is so good and the atmosphere so relaxed that you will find yourself spending much longer than you planned for.
Our dinner started at 7pm sharp and finished at 11:15pm. During those four hours we proceeded to eat a wide variety of things that walk the earth, swim the oceans and fly the skies. I couldnâ¬"t possibly go through the list, but I would recommend that you try the shoulder of pork, which melts away at the slightest of spoon nudges and the crab with crispy noodle. We finished our meal with some greatly refreshing, frozen lychee liqueur served as a compliment. Great way to end the meal, which surprisingly (given the amount of food and drink consumed) did not leave me feeling bloated at all.
Towards the end of the night Mr Peng also walked the floor and greeted the customers personally. Itâ¬"s a very small, family-run place and such personal touches add very nicely to the whole atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Having stumbled on this place after finding 'Nutmeg' down the road closed and crumbling, Goya delighted our party with witty, friendly service.

Our Spanish was much improved by the attentive waiters, but there seems to be an issue with sugar in this restaurant: the Sangria was too sweet for my taste, and the 'crema' that arrived for dessert must have had an inch of uncarmalised sugar on it. The rest of our tapas was ample, served quickly and tasted fresh.

oh this place is so sweet, but it's the aroma of perfectly baked loaves that makes my stomach rumble most.

Everything is baked freshly, daily and with panache to give variety of some really extraudinary and satisfying breads: their milk bread (slow-made, so i'm informed) is ideal for picnic sandwiches or just under toasting and spreading with lashings of quality thick marmalade. YUM!

Ingredients are freshely sourced, and flour stone-ground: And this in the world of bread making is supremely important! As a resulf loaves take on a smooth texture and lightness that tempts any taste buds. I remember the light golden crust of the rye and raison loaf I bought, but do not remember finishing it quite so quickly!

My experience is always happy one where fine flour means loaves are for tearing and eating fresh; and if you're feeling friendly sharing with others! I took a party of my work colleagues here for a leaving do. The food was pretty good, and the service was efficient.

When the bill arrived (for about Â£450) I noticed that 12.5% service charge had been added. This is fair enough, but on this occasion half the expenditure had been on drinks consumed at the bar before the meal -- you wouldn't normally give a 12.5% tip in a pub!

I was then asked by two different waitresses if I'd like to give a "tip" on top of this.

Of course the "double-tip" scam is still widespread, although you won't find it at the really best restaurants. When you then don't give a "tip" as well as the "service" you're made to feel mean.

I was impressed by my experience; I'm a huge fan of Italian food and this hits the spot. The restaurant has been completely renovated and now has a fun but not over the top modern atmosphere.

The food is carefully presented and seems lovingly prepared, but without too much fuss. The menu was rammed with Italian specialities and it was a menu that begs you go back before you have even completed your first meal. I had a simple faggioli soup and then grilled monkfish with potato and beetroot cake, which was succulent and tasty. I was especially intrigued by the wild seasonal mushrooms on toast and want to try that next time.

The staff could not have been friendlier, so all in all the package was a good one. This pub ticks all the boxes as a tip-top local pub: quiet, always a seat, no music, great beer, a sense of community and fun characters to watch. I even spotted a chap drinking from his usual pewter mug (presumably in his usual seat too).

This is a Samuel Smith pub (nothing to do with John Smiths, despite the rumours) so everything is furnished with their traditional brand and quality. The Oatmeal Stout is well worth trying...close your eyes and it feels like slipping back into a bygone era.

Pub food looks pretty basic but traditional. Will report back on that one.

Last poster, I cannot believe how incorrect you are. Been to a lot of fish & chip places in London and most of them serve you with fish which is at least 2 days old, soggy and disgusting.

Not this place. Originally recommended by a resident friend, I managed to get most of my department's colleagues hooked on this little takeaway. Fish quality has been EXCEPTIONAL every time we've been there. I can honestly put a hand on my heart and say its the freshest fish I had from a fish&chip place in London.

Wilton's in Victoria? I hope you do not mean Seafresh on Wilton Road which is just opposite our offices? Looks nice and modern - crap fish. We prefer to go for a 10 minute walk down to Halibutts, thank you very much. Usually we order skinless cod & chips, which is out of this world (make sure you phone and pre-order, then just collect or sit in and eat. Here's a place you can eat and drink right at the heart of Westminster just across the road from the Houses of Parliament. We met for a business meeting and people chose a range of different dishes - fish and chips, ham, egg and chips and I chose potato wedges with mushrooms, tomatoes, onions and melted cheese - this was served with a garnish of fresh salad and was quite frankly yummy. This and my drink came to around Â£5.50 - wow - how cool is it to be able to go and eat in Central London and not get ripped off! Very good value for money. The waiter looked a little confused between orders and tables, but he was pleasant and happy to help and we didn't have to wait too long for our food.

Down sides - not a lot of room. Up side - good air conditioning so it was restful and relaxing and you weren't struggling with feeling stifled. Would definitely go there again. This place is grim and noisy. The stark furniture and the lively after work crowd mean that you have to shout to be heard (something that everyone else seems to have figured out already).

My friend summarised it well by saying it was "a place to shout at each other after work".

I had passed it many times on the way home and wondered what it was like.

Apollo Victoria Theatre - A Wicked Night Out! by ablair9999

The Apollo Victoria Theatre is the current home of the London production of Wicked.

We went with friends last night - it was fantastic!

The theatre itself is a beautiful example of the art deco style. Inside they are in the slow process of refurbishing and retuurning it to it's former glory. For some reason in the past everything was covers in brown paint but they have already uncovered some beautiful features.

The show was OMG amazing. I was a little dubious beforehand (we were bought the tickets) however I definately left covered in more than a little Oz Dust!

I won't go into too much detail as I would hate to ruin the surprises, but is is essentially the story of the good witch Glinda and the Wicked Witch from the original Wizard Of Oz - where they were from and why one is good and the other Wicked!

The set, lighting and production values are all very good indeed. The performers very talented, and the show very entertaining. This show will run and run - last night, a normal Thursday and they still get a standing ovation!

I was confused because SeaFresh has undergone a make-over since I visited many years ago. It is a famous spot for where cabbies meet politicians...apparently. In its new guise (whenever that was) it is now modern and very simple decor but in a cheesy 80's way. Quite an unlikely looking environment but then there is only one reason for coming here and that is to have fish, simply done and fresh. Period.

I sense the most popular thing on the menu (looking around) is a rather good classic fish, chips and mushy peas. However, I tucked into a terrific set of sardines, which really hit the spot. I plan on going back to tuck into more adventurous things and i seem to remember that the fish soup is a classic.

If you love fish then you will love this place.

We stayed there last night and we're disgusted. we paid Â£75 for a triple room which was a case of cramming a double and single bed into a tiny room. Upon arrival we were starred at by a foreign sounding man at reception who clearly did nt want to be there. he shoved a piece of paper at me to fill in to check in. He then said we were in the other building so taken outside and pointed in the direction of a wooden door next to some sort of kebab house. we were warned to be careful as they accept no responsibility for any loss which set alarm bells ringing. we got inside where it was just 3 floors of corridors and went down to the basement where our room was. once inside, we found the smoke detector was stuffed with toilet roll, the last guests rubbish was left on the dressing table, the beds didnt match and the window didnt lock. the plug was clogged in the shower so kept having to turn it off to avoid completely flooding the bathroom. the tv had 1 channel which played across numbers 1-4 and 5 didnt work. outside the window was masses of rubbish, disgusting. amazingly when we came back from our night out we still had all our belongings which we really did not expect. the room was freezing though and the only bed covers were a sheet and a felt blanket so no good nights sleep. i would not recommend staying here...We stayed there last night and we're disgusted. we paid Â£75 for a triple room which was a case of cramming a double and single bed into a tiny room. Nothing like a bit of controversy but...why would I want to go to Hard Rock?

Maybe, just maybe, with kids but why would I want to succumb to this 80's American cliche?

Love to hear from others why I should go back after so many years (when it was arguably fun and a novel experience).
