I absolutely love this place. One of a handful of picturehouses in London, the Brixton Ritzy shows a broad variety of art house, independent and foreign language films, in addition to the bigger blockbusters. More than that though, it's a wonderful place to stop for a drink - there's a bar at the side of the cinema, and a cafe upstairs where you can have a light bite before a film. They have special screenings for those with young children under 12 months ("The Big Scream") as well as autism friendly showings. The main screen, screen one, is my favourite, as it's really old school, with worn red velvet seats.I absolutely love this place. OK, I admit, I don't think there are any other sushi restaurants in Streatham. Seriously though, Oishii is good. And not just for sushi - they do a nice mixture of Japanese, Vietnamese and Thai. The sushi is fresh and tasty and the noodle dishes are great; service is excellent and the slightly weird American-diner style decor adds to the experience. It's also really good value. Highlights are the sushi and the yaki soba is damn good. It's usually full of cute couples having romantic meals for two. A highlight of Streatham Hill! They also give you sweets at the end of the meal, which is really exciting because some of them are really tasty (like coconut flavour) and some are HORRIBLE (like, cough medicine). Well I can't comment on the quality (or otherwise) of the massage that is available here as I never even got that far!

Having booked an appointment for a Saturday morning I arrived 10 minutes early, hung around for 50 minutes until a physiotherapist finished with a client and, wondering why I was still sat there looking bored, made some enquiries (there's no receptionist, you see, which also means that you have to wait around outside the locked door until someone finishes a session and lets you in - don't book one an appointment for a rainy day!).

Anyway the physio couldn't reach anyone and so left some answering machine messages...for the therapist and at the Battersea office...at which point we both agreed that I may as well go home.

Luckily for everyone concerned I have nothing better to do on my weekend after a long week in the office...

Who knows - if you book an appointment and someone actually turns up to see you then maybe they're quite good. But I'm not convinced I can waste any more time finding out!!

Well, since it is my local, I can only say nice things about the "Hope".

Mainly around the fact that it has the best beer garden in London, which you would never know from the outside - its many features include a nice big stone circle table-thing with a small fountain in the middle (possibly). Such a nice place to chill out on a sunny afternoon - and they often have an outside DJ playing some *funky house* or equally inoffensive tunes to make the ambience.

Oh, and it has a tree house. Yes, a house made of tree. Although I have yet to be there in time to actually sit in the tree house...

Suffice to say that the inside is ok, like a normal pub. But you get extra points for the tree house, and the fact that they have a late bar called myth upstairs. Which is, er, not bad (depending on the night you go).

Streatham Hill station was the first one to open in Streatham, and still has the original station building, which, as a timber build, is showing signs of age.

It's not a station to use if you use a wheelchair, have lots of luggage or prams, as there are four sets of stairs to navigate to get to the platform.

Train services are frequent Mondays to Saturdays, with four trains per hour Mondays to Saturdays to London Victoria (journey time: 17 minutes), two trains per hour to London Bridge and two trains per hour to West Croydon. Sundays offers two trains to Victoria and two to Sutton via West Croydon. There are also some quirks during peak times and evenings.

Southern who operate the station have started a major refurbishment programme, which will include a new footbridge, the installation of lifts and a better station environment - it can't come quick enough!

Just off Brixton this is an excellent local greengrocers. Run by an chatty greengrocer with an excellent knowledge of what's fresh and good he's happy to share -- there is often stuff that might not look supermarket shiny but tastes great. An intimately sized pub with at least 3 different bands on every day of the week. It's sort of hidden away just off brixton hill and I was a bit surprised when I found it. Many now famous bands have played a gig there when they were trying to make it so the quality of music is generally great. There's a huge list on their website:

They also list all the upcoming bands and the prices. Usually it's Â£5 or less which is about right I think. An intimately sized pub with at least 3 different bands on every day of the week. It's a great place to meet friends before a film, or before heading out in Brixton. They didn't have any draught lager when I went, so bottles only. The French team who brought Acre Lane the delightful Opus café downstairs have converted the upper floors into a small bar and restaurant.

The menu is top quality European fare and the wine list is excellent.

The ambience is great too - the tables at the front have a clear view to Westminster Cathedral (it's not Big Ben).

Don't the the location confuse you - this is a great fine dining experience but not fusty or over fussy.

A friendly carribean cafe/restaurant on brixton hill with a pretty small indoor area and a larger outdoor seating area which is great for summery days.

Their jerk chicken is cooked in the oil drums outside so the smell is great for getting your appetite going!

They have a limited menu but the food is really really cheap and the things that they do have are pretty delicious. They also have the famous blue mountain coffee (for £2.95!!!) and homemade cakes and exotic smoothies as well as a breakfast menu in the day.

This is somewhere I end up going quite a lot because it's local and cheap. However, I warn you now, service can be quite slow when busy and after coming here a few times, you'd probably get bored of the food but it's definitely somewhere you should try if you live in the area!

There was a band made up of people just jamming away, were very good and lively ...

Very much a place I would recommend, as the crowd are relaxed and easy going. The place has an easy going vibe.

It's really hidden away in the back streets of Brixton in a residential street. So you have to really find this little gem of originality.
