Ok Japanese food, it's mainly for the lunch crowd wanting a quick take-away. Menu consists of basic japanese, though not done particularly well. The sushi leaves something to be desired. The ordering process is frustrating during peak hour as people crowd around waiting for their number to be called. Bengal Tiger is located in between Blackfriars and St Pauls stations. Tucked away in a small lane, you might not get to eat here unless you knew where it was.

I have eaten here a number of times and the quality of food and service has been similar on each occasion. The menu is varied, has an extensive drinks menu including mango lassi, and caters for vegetarians and non-vegetarians. The food is good, not too greasy or oily, and appears fresh. Presentation is not their strong point though. The service is polite though could be sharper. Meals are relatively good value for money given the location. A fascinating place, with caverns that go right underground and supposedly one of the oldest pubs in London. Loved this place for the warmth of the service, the homely atmosphere and the fantastic pasta and wine on offer (I had gone for a simple pasta dish with crab and olive oil and my pasta was cooked to perfection).

I met another TrustedPlaces user here for lunch and to catch up, both being what Bill Hicks would have considered "readers" we headed for Shaws...

And what a great little place. Not too busy considering the time of day, with speedy service. The menu was pretty varied for a city pub and as a veggie I was actually spoiled for choice for a change.

I had a salad and sweet potato curry and we got through a charming bottle of red.

Refettorio is practically next door to my office, so an extremely convenient lunchtime haunt. I've always found the food delicious, and authentically Italian. The pheasant ravioli is terrific. The only reason that it doesn't rate five stars is that on a couple of occasions the service has been somewhat inattentive - if the restaurant is quiet, it's fine, but if it's busy, standards seem to slip a little. This is my local and the food is reasonable asian fusion fayre but pricey. The real outstanding feature though is the service. Could it be that this restaurant's proximity to Ken Livingstone's office has infected attitudes here with a little bit of public sector rudeness and inefficiency? No- that is unfair on the public sector. Attitudes here make that rude lady at Islington council offices who overcharged your council tax seem positively obliging. This is the perfect place to unwind after work in the city. It's rarely packed, and the food is both excellent value and good quality.

I've been here for a meal with friends, or just a few drinks after work. Be warned, you'll almost always spend some money on their tapas style snacks, as they are so irresistible!
