I even spotted a chap drinking from his usual pewter mug (presumably in his usual seat too).

This is a Samuel Smith pub (nothing to do with John Smiths, despite the rumours) so everything is furnished with their traditional brand and quality. The Oatmeal Stout is well worth trying...close your eyes and it feels like slipping back into a bygone era.

Pub food looks pretty basic but traditional. Will report back on that one.

If its an old fashioned local you are after then this hits the spot.
The Grenadier - (Really) hidden gem of a pub by Hugo

Take your friends from overseas to The Grenadier and I think they will get the picture.

The Grenadier is ridiculously hidden away down a small private road just off Belgrave Square. Even with a map in my hand I stood at the entrance to the small cobbled lane thinking, well it can't be down here, how can my map be so wrong.

The beer is good and you can stand out on the street (they give you a plastic glass).

Part of me isn't too happy to share the knowledge of this pub with everyone because it is a hidden treasure trove and more to the point it isn't very big. After reading this review you really should reciprocate with your hidden treasures too!

Want a pub to show johnny-foreigner what a proper British pub is all about?
Zander Bar - Stylish Drinks and Coktails by Ladis19

It is renowned for the length of its bar, supposedly the longest one in the UK&.. all 36 meters of it. Quite impressive.

This place is generally buzzing with trendy, professional, beautiful people, although tonight was particularly quite. No doubt due to people being concerned about how they would get home after the apocalyptic comments of today's weather forecasters.

Aside from the size of its bar the other worth while fact is that they do exceedingly good cocktails, both with and without alcohol. The food nibbles are also rather tasty. We had the charcuterie plate and the tapas plate which I guess came from the Bank kitchens and therefore were very good, well presented and in the correct proportions.

Staff are friendly, attentive but not intrusive. All in all a very good night out. Perfect place to sit ay the bar with an old mate and catch up on old times.
I have just come back from the Zander Bar where I had a drink and a quick bite to eat with an old friend from Uni and thought this place was worth a little mention.

The Zander Bar is part of the Bank Restaurant, which itself is part of the 4 star 51 Buckingham Gate Hotel complex. I love this place. This is a really classy venue that never fails to impress. The waiters are discrete, attentive, and ensure your glass is never empty (without you even realising they've been most of the time). My companion and I were happily ensconced on a battered chesterfield sofa by the fire, the pianist did his thing, the gay couple at the next table were bitchily discussing Scarlet Johannson and Josh Hartnett (who were at the bar), and on our other side were three russian hookers and a prominent saudi businessman.
