It is rare to find such a friendly team of people.. They were not only extreamly efficient in serving us our order but friendly and not in that over fake/forced style of service that you get in some places. They just seemed to genuinely happy to serve you. The food is not bad either.. If you are looking for a place to do drink with good food in Notting Hill you really can't go wrong. I have heard that they have a downstairs function room/bar available for hire which I am definately checking out for my birthday get together - This is one of the best pubs in Notting HillI can highly recommend this pub and have done so to many of my friends when asked to recommend somewhere to drink around Notting Hill - I have read other reviews about this pub on other sites who rave on about the great bar staff and I have to agree. The food is fairly standard pub fare although the Sunday roasts are quite good. The food is quite pricey for what is is though. The drinks on the other hand are not overpriced and there is a good selection of wines, beer, cocktails (jugs and glasses) and hot and cold soft drinks. They also do a great mulled wine in winter. The staff are friendly and always happy to help. During the summer there is a reasonable size beer garden which is popular as it gets the sun in the afternoon. There is also a conservatory area which is available for private hire and great for parties although it can get a little cold in the winter. The Commander is a relaxed pub with comfy seating which is great for lazing around on a Sunday afternoon. The food, whilst not cheap, is always excellent and while the main menu is usually the same the specials change regularly and include "trendy" pub food as well as more traditional options. The wine list has recently been shortened but is none the worse for it and still offers reasonable value. There is also always a good choice of cocktails on the boards, including the delicious butterscotch martini and an inventive cocktail of the month, but beware - these are not cheap! The staff are always frindly and fun, the seating is comfortable and the atmosphere relaxed. This is a great place to come with friends for a night out (you can actually hear yourselves talk) or Sunday lunch with the family (kids welcome). The Chepstow is a real gem amongst the many bars and pubs of Notting Hill and Bayswater. I didn't have the pleasure of seeing Sir Paul, but then again I don't think I'd be as excited as my friend, even if I had cought a glimpse of him.
The pub has an American diner feel to it, serves oysters and crab and generally has a nice, homely feel to it. The music is loud enough to give the place some energy without stopping a nice discussion with you friends. There is a full dinner room upstairs, which I'll have to try next time I visit.
It's only 5 minutes away from Westbourne Park station.
