I was very excited when I received the menu as it all sounded very good. However it turned out be a bit of a disappointment. The food was ok, but you expect excellent food when you pay Â£70/person.

Despite being situated slap bang in the middle of Hoxton Square this place is sheltered (physically and mentally) from the rambunctious drunken shenanigans that usually take place here.

The coffee is great and the cakes are awesome, although 1 piece of the cheesecake has been known to defeat 2 hungry people.

Its a Mexican place so the beers are all south american and they do a special version of a bloody mary thats tomato juice and beer which I hear is actually delicious. The breakfasts are really good as well - Huevos Chicanos or Rancheros is my fave.

The bun or noodle salad is fantastic and hits the spot during the summer. Fresh flavours and a satisfying amount of spice. Stay away from the fried food and you won't be disappointed. The staff are really friendly and we always get served quickly which means that it is a great choice either before a movie or a play at the Almeida. This is a really great mini chain of pizza resturants selling neapolitan style, stone baked pizzas by the half metre. There are well over 15 pizza toppings, some without cheese, many without meat and all with fresh ingredients. You can really taste the flavours in the pizzas and the salads are always green and perky.

I usually have my pizza delivered and they come hot, in huge boxes and there is always plenty to share. The question you'll be asked as you prepare to leave Bacchus is not "How was your food?" but "How was your experience?" You don't come to this converted former pub at the unfashionable end of Hoxton to satiate your hunger with good nosh - Fred Cooke's Eel & Pie shop nearby will do that. You come to Bacchus to experience an El Bulli-trained culinary genius taking your sensory perceptions to places they don't normally go, with truly amazing combinations of aroma, flavour, colour, texture and temperature. It's an inevitable yet ironic consequence of the friendly and unsnobbish "fine dining with trainers" ethos of the place that some visitors simply don't get what it's about. But leading restaurant critics, chefs and countless foodies have already confirmed what I knew within minutes of my first visit â¬ that Nuno Mendes is one of the best and most creative chefs working in Britain today. There's only so long I can go without experiencing pleasures like parmesan bread cooked Ã la minute, nitrous rose water and mackerel cooked at such a low temperature that it melts like butter on the tongue, so I was really looking forward to paying a visit during a brief holiday break back in my home city.

Reviewers seem a bit obsessed with sous-vide cooking, but the truth is that the team at Bacchus use a panoply of equipment and techniques to arrive at their product. And if there's anything new to be tried, Nuno will be the first to experiment. Hence the tasting menu is constantly evolving, to the point where it's not unknown for a dish to change during the course of a service. This place is a dump! Simple.

A couple of us stopped in here for drinks after work on Friday, while we decided where we wanted to go that night.
Never again!

First of the they need English speaking staff - simple drink requests took 10 minutes as we had to point out each spirit on the bar behind the girl.
The sofa's were all ripped and tatty. The bar environment was very dingy and dark - just uninviting really.
Music ranged from rock to hardcore ata very loud level.

I didn't get to experience the dancefloor downstairs as this was still shut - what a shame!

The toilets, you have to walk back to the main door, with access direct from the street for anyone passing, go downstairs in a dimly corridor to be met with 3 dirty cubicle areas that smelt like they hadn't been cleaned in years.

I wouldn't even give this place 1 star, sorry!This place is a dump! Simple.

I got excited just walking there. They are open relatively late (11.30), and the last time I went they were still putting out fresh food every ten minutes or so and it was already 10.15. It is certainly not the swankiest of places by the look of it, but the combination of incredible prices (3.50 for never ending buffet of amazing and fresh curries, rices, salads, and fried goodies? yeesss please), and surprisingly friendly and accommodating staff makes it my ONE sure thing. It is where I go when I feel like rewarding myself, because I can just sit (alone or with friends, it is not intimidating to dine solo here) and simply eat like the glutton I am for as long as I want, and not feel guilty in the least! A nice enough place, but I'm baffled as to the point of this place is - the cutesy playful tone and the really varied menu choice made for confusion - on the menu was Mexican, Japanese, Chinese, Indian... with such a wide range of food it felt like it was trying to please everyone and the result was an OK meal. Jack of all trades and that - if only they really concentrated on one particular style and nailed it right I think it would be really good.

Incidentally, the staff were very friendly and the prices were affordable and I can see what it means by being child-friendly. I went to this place after reading the reviews and hype extolling the virtues of this simply marvellous place.
After dining there I can safely say that masala zone is all mouth and no trousers.
The staff spend a long time telling you about their 'special system' (basically they give you a bit of everything on a plate) as if they are trying to explain quantam phsyics to a slightly slow 4-year-old.
Although what I did get on a plate was enjoyable, the portions were meager and the service went from unctious to perfunctory in one fell swoop.
Whilst my dad was on the phone a waitress came up to me to ask if I would like a dessert and I told her that I would inform her once the he was off the phone.
When he got off, which was only about 2 minutes later, the waitress snapped at me that I couldn't have a dessert now, that it was too late.
The staff then proceeded to turn the full glare of the lights on to give us a hint to get out - we hadn't even been in very long.
Unfortunately, not long after this experience I had to visit another branch of this dire chain becuase it was someone else's choice.
This time it was for lunch, rather than dinner but I wasn't surprised to see that the staff here did the same trick of putting what seemed like high-beam lighting on and basically making it very clear that you had to "eat your dinner and get to f*ck" (to use one of my dear ma ma's phrases) as soon as you had finished your meal.
All in all appaulling and deserves to go out of business.

I've been to this restaurant twice since it opened. I'll have to hedge on an unqualified vote of confidence in the food at Tortilla, but they seem to have the right idea when it comes to customer service. I grew up in Southern California, by the way.

The ingredients are fresh, and every burrito is prepared fresh in front of you, using chafing dishes and containers much like you might find at Subway.

You get a choice of two kinds of rice ("Spanish"--actually Mexican, and lemon/coriander) and two kinds of beans (pinto or black--go with the pintos for a truly Californian experience).

You should also be able to choose from three kinds of meat, but I haven't yet had the carnitas (pork); it was not available because they were still "perfecting" the dishes. Carnitas is by far my favourite burrito meat, so that was a disappointment. The other options are, of course, chicken and beef (carne asada [de res]).

The hot sauces aren't hot and you shouldn't take their advice for the pairings. The salsa verde is better with pork than with anything else, but I'll always go for the hot sauce.

There are other ingredients as well. Guacamole costs 50p extra.

They have a tendency to overfill the burritos so that they burst when you are eating them. This is a sign that the staff are still learning the ropes. Try asking for less rice, maybe, since it's not really an integral part of a burrito.

The staff also got the order wrong on three of the five burritos we have ordered here. The mistakes were fixed, no questions asked.

Their rubbish disposal system is abysmal, with frustrated customers just piling the rubbish up on the bins.

I recommend this place, but I think the burritos at the place up the road are a bit better (and the hot sauce is actually hot!) It's a pretty close call, though, since I think that Mucho MÃ¡s overcharges on guacamole (Â£1).

I've been to the Islington Tapas Bar (ITB) about six times since discovering them about a year ago. My partner and I are big fans of tapas and Spanish cuisines in general and had been looking for something in North London for quite some time. and Islington's close enough to North London for us.

The food here will not knock your socks off like the dishes they serve at Barrafina, but I think the ITB serves good food, especially considering the price. Try the croquettes and any of the chicken dishes. Make sure you order bread to soak up the sauces.

We generally order Ã la carte, but have also tried the "tapas for a tenner" offer they have. They would go out of business if they allowed their customers to order willy-nilly, so they restrict the menu to less expensive dishes and logically require that you finish the three (or so?) dishes you can order in one go. The trick is to order the light options first and the heavy ones last.

Two people can eat here for less than Â£40 with wine. We generally come in around Â£50-60 because of what and the way we order.

Well, i was quite a fan of The Warwick although i rarely made time to go there but now it has changed it's guise i think i might become a regular. At last we have a real breath of fresh air in angel, with cool music of a number of different genres and some awesome drinks this is definitely a step in the right direction. Barrio North as it is now called is a vast improvement on what was here before, it's got bags of atmosphere and really friendly staff to keep you happy all night long. I went down with some friends for a party recently and had a great time - I just wish we could have sat in the caravan!Well, i was quite a fan of The Warwick although i rarely made time to go there but now it has changed it's guise i think i might become a regular. The elderly couple who run it have managed to preserve a sense of community with their customers, so be ready to wait a few minutes while family news is shared, and practice your Italian phrases when you can.

Finally stopped in on my way home after having seen it here and passing by a few times.

Very nice wide selection of all kinds of japanese staples. I wouldn't call it an izakaya, precisely for that reason.

As I saw the place from outside was a glass building, which looked amazing. As I stepped through the front door with my partner I was greeted with a very polite waitress, which took me and my partner to our table. As we sat down we was offered a large selection of fresh bread and olives which was amazing, a must to try is the white chocolate and chilli bread, which was made freshly on the day. We ordered saffron seafood risotto and goats cheese croute. As a main course Pork fillet with carmelized bananas and coconut risotto and veal jus and my partner had the crispy skinned seabass with parsley mash and an exquisite buerre blanc. The food was so amazing we only managed to try one dessert which was the Chocolate Fondant with toffee sauce. Funny how the other two reviews are so differnt, I've never seen this pub with a sports crowd but it is certainly one of the trendier pubs of hoxton. A variety of live music from rock to electro to indie. Xerox teens host a night there "the parlour" every month I think and many bands play there regularly, past bands include: good shoes, xerox teens, cazals. Reasonable drink prices and friendly people. Only issue with it is the council estate opposite who aren't always into drunken hoxton heroes.
