The place is small (about 50 seats), but they have no pretensions and use what they have very well - that is to say minimally, which really lets their talented casts shine. If you enjoy musical theatre and are getting a bit bored with all the standards in the West End, come down to this place and enjoy a step back to what good musical theatre is all about. Imaginative staging, fantastic talent and a sense of fun. An over the top artistic creation that is sensational to look at and even better to see a performance in.
If you really want to feel like part of the action and experience the thrill of it all, then go for the very cheap standing only tickets. It is such fun, you get closer views and you can mingle and move about more too.
The cost for these is an outstanding, £5, an amount of money that is really next to nothing for London. Mind you some of the performances can be quite long, but if you buy standing tickets for gigs then you will be fine.
The main problem could be the open air aspect, which means you are stuffed if it rains and you may get wet.The Shakespeares Globe Theatre is wonderful. It's an outdoor sunken amphitheatre that can seat up to 800 Londoners, tourists and children depending on what's going on.

During summer it plays host to films, music and theatre. Best of all everything is FREE!

Since living in SE1 I've seen a bunch of movies there and it's often not the films themselves that tempt me (as I have most of them on DVD), but rather the atmosphere of sitting outside watching a movie with an eclectic mix of people.

My main reason for going though are the plays. London is an expensive city, yet here you can see unique productions without it costing you a penny (although you can of course leave a donation to the company afterwards).

Usually there are two performances a day with a production for children earlier in the day. These especially are great fun, often with audience participation and a lot of singing and dancing. Last year's Cyclops was excellent and I still rate their Treasure Island on a par with the best of Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley!

Be sure to check out the website to see what's on: http://www.morelondon.com/scoop.html

And those seats can get cold even if the sun is out so regulars and locals tend to take a cushion!Located between HMS Belfast and Tower Bridge, The Scoop is the focal point for the oddly named More London area in SE1.
