We had a Saturday lunch at the Anchor & Hope. As they don't take bookings (apart from for Sunday lunch), we arrived at 12pm and queued up, waiting for the dining room to open. Not long after we were seated in the middle of the room, making the small space even more cramped with our pram.

The three of us couldn't decide between all the good sounding menu options, so decided to share several starters, instead of ordering individual main courses. We had the Salt Beef Broth with parsley & dumplings (deemed by my companions to be the best soup of the year); the Potato, Queen Scallop & Mussel salad; the Beetroot, Horseradish & Watercress salad; the Bresaola, Rocket & Lemon; and the Deep Fried Rabbit with Radish & Rouille. All very enjoyable - great flavours and attractive presentation.

We were full but desserts sounded too good to miss. We had the Queen of Puddings; the Flourless Chocolate Cake; and some Pecan Praline ice cream (evil) and Ale ice cream (better than it sounds). Again, all were so delicious. The chocolate cake was very rich though and even with three of us eating we couldn't finish it.

LOVE the Market Porter. Always buzzing, great sleection of drinks and a fab atmosphere. It is really busy all the time (not to its detriment) so sometimes it can take a few minutes to get served, but it doesn't detract at all. Highly recommended.LOVE the Market Porter. This is a cool little place. It has quite an intimate feel without being to invasive, almost like being in someone's living room with a bunch of mates. Lots of music, often bands and live jazz on. Nice food. Oh and I think they have board games (!)

Damp, dark, eerie, low-lit caverns underground London Bridge.. Absolutely loved a recent night here. There were exhibitions set up in some rooms and live music too. It's near the Tate Modern, it's in a landmark building that's part of a funky glass and steel development, it has a pÃ©tanque lawn and a roll top bath out front, plus a mini croquet lawn...how pretentious, you may think.

And yes, I can imagine that this place opened and suffered as a result of all its grand ideas. I believe you, DanWilkinson, that it was only average in the beginning. I'm sure that the service was beyond slow; we had a long wait to get served at the bar and the staff seemed united by a common air of being really, really stoned. I have to say the prices weren't unreasonable: drinks were average, burgers at the £6-£7 mark and they had a wide menu with most choices coming in at under £8.

Our food took a good 20 minutes to arrive, which is fairly unusual for just burgers and light bites. The hopeless staff were sweet, but couldn't offer up much more than 'the kitchen is really overloaded today' - not usually a good sign. The food (I had the grilled chicken club, my fellow diners had burgers, mussels, prawns and onion rings) was absolutely fine, but we didn't sample anything life-changing.

Still, something about The Refinery really won me over. Maybe it's the design and the concept of the whole place - industrial, airy, lots of wood and loads of room. Maybe it was the fact that they had a good DJ spinning and the music was determinedly above average. Maybe it was the crowd â¬ a rather eye-pleasing mix of office suits and quirky design/ interiors types. Or maybe it was the fact that it wasn't packed to the rafters, and there was space to look around, hear your friends' voices, and take it all in.

The Refinery is trying hard to tick many boxes all at once, and probably won't succeed in all areas. But once theyâ¬"ve worked out what theyâ¬"re best at, and concentrate their efforts, I think more people will realise what a thoroughly nice space it is. Iâ¬"ll certainly be returningâ¬¦

Visited this pub last Sunday evening with friends as it looked reasonable from the outside .... but the service was totally rude and the staff clearly had no training or any idea of what a pub should be like.
Without sounding any 'last orders' bell a staff member came to our table and ordered us to leave, then stood over us whilst we downed our drinks! The appalling rudeness in this place was quite unbelievable - do not visit under any circumstances! I went there for a friend's birthday after failing to enter to the Shunt... My first impression when I entered was that I am going to hate it but after a while I noticed that the screen was displaying slides about galaxies which was great and there were a group of people dressed as Aliens. Dickensian type prmises which have not been decorated since his time. The place is dedicated to gay fun and cheap to get in. Everything is painted black--or has turned black now, anyway! Features include a large horse shoe shaped bar with lockers on one side and cruise area on the other. This recedes into a large blacker than black dark room. There's a much smaller dark room which squashes the customers up to ensure they get friendly. The seedy loos to the rear provide more general activity space. I went on a 'boots only' evening and had a great time. There is only one sling and you have to stand for most things, which limites activity a little. A modern Young's pub on the south side of the river very close to Blackfriars bridge. Its location is what makes this place popular, with a large terrace and seats overlooking the river, even provides its customers with blankets in the winter for anyone mad enough to want to sit outside. No major roads nearby, and it's less crowded, has much better beer and is better value for money than the Tate cafÃ©...A modern Young's pub on the south side of the river very close to Blackfriars bridge. Despite what previous reviewers say, the King's Arms is not a gastropub; well not by our definition anyway. It has an open kitchen with activities in there on view to punters and the food is freshly cooked to order as well as being presented piping hot.
We reckon the previous three reviewers went for Sunday lunch together and we have certainly witnessed big plates of food on the sabbath, when some large family parties seem to gather there for a lazy afternoon.
We did the evening service and my spatchcock piripiri chicken and her ladyship's ribs were delicious and both accompanied by good (non frozen) jacket chips and a green salad. Simple food, decent ingredients, properly cooked; not rocket science but nevertheless refreshing all the same. Prices for food are generally 20% higher than we think would be the right mark but what they do, they do pretty well.
They've just started doing 'Kings of Comedy' nights with four comics for £5 admission. Great value, all well organised and some real talent on stage.

This is fast becoming a favourite after-work hangout. It's a popular spot that fills up quickly - if you're not in and seated by 6.15 or so, you might have trouble grabbing a seat. This is in large part due to an annoying habit people have of ringing up and booking tables in advance for large parties (annoying only as I've yet to remember to do it myself).

But that's a good indicator of how nice a bar it is. It mixes several key elements - theatre bar, gastropub, restaurant, artists' hangout, and regular coffee bar - with good results. It feels like during the day it might be a slightly studious meeting place and cafÃ© for those with more than a passing interest in the creative industries. However come office closing time, it's stuffed with a variety of all kinds of Waterloo workers - and I like it all the more for that - except for when it's standing room only...

Food is priced fairly and is excellent quality, with inventive salads and soups featuring alongside standard pub fare of burgers and sandwiches. House wine is good value and I'd definitely recommend their hot toddy for these chilly winter evenings - a spicy blend of brandy, apple juice, lemon, honey, cinnamon and cloves, all whipped up in a flash by one of the friendly bar staff.

Last year's London bar of the year with TimeOut, this is one of the few places a beer drinker can trust to have first class specials on every week. A tiny little, hard to find spot, but if you enjoy beer, you'll enjoy this place. I went here on 23rd Dec and it was empty. This certainly isn't fair to judge it on how popular it is as it was the Monday before Xmas so fair enough.
WHat I can judge it on are the cocktails, and I only had 1. It was a so called 'happy hour', and a cocktail that tasted of cheap booze and acid, having looked at the website I think it was a Hemingway martini.
Leaving aside what is subjective personal taste for the cocktail, the big gripe is that the drink was served in the TINIEST cocktail glass I've ever seen. At a happy hour price of Â£4 something it wasn't great, but if I paid full price for that well, I wouldn't, I'd just walk out. It's definitely not a cocktail bar no matter what the reviewers say below. Interesting that all of them have only ever put one review on this site, and it's all effusive praise for this bar. Coincidence? I think not!

This is a nice pub to go for lunch, it does get busy so I would recommend visiting if at 12:30 when you should be able to get a table. Food menu is plain and simple but very tasty! Service has always been good so you can count on being in and out within the hour.

I would recommend the fish finger bap - it is yummy!!!

When you have to choose a location for some drinks, in London that won't be busy, reasonably priced and a central location you can sometimes have a dilemma!

Thats exactly what happened last week!

So, the venue is split over two floors, all which have a stunning southbank view of towerbridge; and only a stone through away from MoreLondon.

Food wise, its around Â£8-11 for a main, the quality of which did vary, though that may be because we had about 20 people eating at the venue.

Drinks, all a reasonable price and a good range of bottle drinks and some rather tap beers that you might not find elsewhere. If you are into your 'standard' lager choices you may have to pause to find something fresh that you like.

I don't goto London Bridge/Tower Bridge much, but I can see it being a nice summer stroll venue.

This is a really nice pub for a cosy few drinks with friends. There's a nice open fire and a decent selection of wine. It's dark and atmospheric and suited us perfectly on a recent cold Winter's evening.

The clientele is very mixed, from old regulars sipping at the bar by themselves to local trendsters and then some people like me looking for a nice place to have a natter with a friend. The only downside was a grumpy barmaid but maybe she was having a bad night, or maybe I had had too much wine!This is a really nice pub for a cosy few drinks with friends. In trendy Bermondsey Street, surrounded by quality restaurants and gastropubs, The Hide Bar more than holds its own.
