This is a great little shop for buying cakes jam and olive oil. I do like jam and although I sometimes make my own I never seem to have enough to last. The other day though I thought Iâ¬"d try some different jam to the supermarket brand and so I tried this shop, they were very friendly and helped me chose everything that I needed. They were very polite and said please and thank you which I think is nice and is something you generally only get from a little shop like this. I will definitely be going there again to buy more jam as it was really good quality and not too expensive!!!

Apart from Thorntons the other place I mainly buy chocolate from is Hotel Chocolat. Itâ¬"s another shop which is great for buying presents from and fab as a treat for eating there and then. They have a very large range of chocolates most of which are made from peculiar mixtures i.e. have fruits or other things you wouldnâ¬"t normally think go well with chocolate in them. However all the chocolate tastes delicious and I find that although itâ¬"s very expensive it is worth the money as itâ¬"s very tasty chocolate. The only thing I donâ¬"t like about it is the way that the members of staff look down their noses at you if you are not as posh looking as them, still a nice store.

The best place to buy quality chocolate is from Thorntons, I often go there to get a Christmas or birthday present for my friends and family as they all love Thorntons chocolate. This is one of the best stores they have, the staff are brilliant! They always give you time and space to browse but are available to ask for advice on the chocolates if you want / need it. The chocolate is always amazingly tasty and of a fabulous quality, never gone off or broken. The store is clean and tidy. The chocolate is a little expensive but is worth every penny. I give it 10 out of 10 because the staff are so helpful!

Millies Cookies do make the best cookies in the U.K and seeing as I adore cookies I just have to try one every time I walk past. These are the best quality cookies ever, they are not at all burnt and are instead soft and doughy, yum! There are a lot of different types of cookies but all are amazingly delicious. This store is always very clean when I go in and the staff are nice and polite and friendly, they are always willing to answer any questions about the cookies which is good for those who have allergies as they can find out which cookies are suitable for them. There is often a long queue for these but itâ¬"s worth waiting as you wonâ¬"t get a better cookie anywhere and the queue is only because the cookies are so good that everybody wants oneâ¬¦ or twoâ¬¦ maybe three.

Cakes, one of lifeâ¬"s little treats, I really do enjoy eating them and often stop off in bakeries, one of my favourites is Crumbs & Doilies. It is a very posh shop but they really do make the best every fairy cakes. Plus all their cakes are handmade, so a lot of care has gone into them and you can tell by the taste. My favourite ones are the chocolate flavour which are very rich and have the most amazing texture! The cupcakes are neither too small nor too big, making them the perfect snack, they are however so tasty that youâ¬"ll want to eat a lot of them!! I know I always do. These are great for parties and just sharing amongst friends but I think they are best when bought as a snack or treat as they taste so amazing!

I visited Absolutely Starving because I was absolutely starving and the name of it caught my eye. It is one of the busiest shops in the area which is normally chock-a-block full of tourists. Therefore the shop normally has queues out the door, donâ¬"t be put off by these though as it really is worth waiting. The food you can buy in this shop is AMAZING! Itâ¬"s fresh and tasty, my favourite are the sandwiches which come in loads of different varieties and all of which taste amazing. They also sell loads of other tasty treats such as soup. I always stop inhere when I am going past because the food is just too good to resist. I really do recommend this place to anybody and everybody.

I think that one of the most refreshing drinks you can have is a smoothie and they are much healthier than fizzy drinks as they are made from fruit. Thatâ¬"s why I try to drink them as often as possible. I came across Smooth Juice the other day and decided that I just had to try one of their smoothies. These are freshly made so you know that what youâ¬"re drinking is good. I have bought several smoothies from here over the past couple of months and have always found that they taste amazing. Also you can chose what it is you want to go into your smoothie so youâ¬"re definitely going to like it. Fruit Juice contains a lot of antioxidants so it will help you to feel better physically as well as mentally. Ice cream is one of my favourite foods and it comes in lots of different flavours which is what makes it so great. I often find that whilst I am out shopping I will get hungry and want some ice cream and so thatâ¬"s when I visit Scoop. I think itâ¬"s one of the best ice cream parlours there are. The great thing about it is that you can test the ice cream before you buy it, only a tiny bit but still it helps you to decide which one you want to buy. I personally loved most of the tester samples but in the end I managed to chose one. It was delicious and the quality of the ice cream was superb, very creamy and extremely tasty, 10 out of 10.

Greggâ¬"s the bakers is a nationwide company who I have found always provide really good quality food. I often buy a snack there when I am out shopping as they are convenient and tasty. They sell everything from cakes to pasties etc. I found that this branch is one of the best as itâ¬"s always clean, the staff have always been very helpful to me and polite, unlike in a lot of other shops they say please and thank you whilst serving you. Plus I have always found the food here to be of the best quality possible. The sausage rolls are always hot and the cakes and sandwiches are never stale. I really do recommend this shop as itâ¬"s fabulous.

Okay, there's something really, really strange about this deli.

Situated in a pleasant residential area near Hammersmith, I worked close to Buchanan's earlier in 2008. The food is nice through pricey. Combining a deli store with a small cafe, it's popular with people looking for an above-average takeaway lunch in an area which doesn't have a huge amount of choice unless one walks over to the centre of Hammersmith. I tended to opt for a salad box with a sort of Italian folded pizza thing, which I asked to be heated up. This set me back about Â£5.50, but was very filling. The coffee's good too.

The main problem here seems to be that the staff tend to make the customers feel incredibly uncomfortable. Personally I always had to steel myself to go in. As someone who was new to the place, I needed some help with what things were, whether they were served hot or cold, what sizes were available, and so on: certainly it wasn't all labelled up in such a way that made these things obvious. The staff often seemed both grumpy and reluctant to help. Occasionally the person serving me spoke very little English, so was both unable to understand my question (e.g. "Can this be heated up?") or answer it. On another occasion when I was selecting what I'd like in my salad box, I had to be most insistent about what I wanted (i.e. nothing vinegary) as the girl serving me that day seemed to have other ideas. Seriously, we were practically shouting at each other! All this made me feel stupid and gauche when in fact all I was trying to do was order something I'd enjoy for lunch.

This po-faced grumpiness seemed to infect the customers too. I came through the door one cold windy day and, being a well-mannered type, was just turning to close it behind me when a man sat at a table yelled at me to close the door. Not nice. Not necessary.

I know my colleagues tended to avoid Buchanan's for much the same reasons, so these aren't isolated incidents it seems. I persisted with the place at first simply because I love my food and don't mind paying for it, but later gave up and went to M&S instead. Sad.

Agreed, it's not cheap. In fact, at Â£1.50 per chocolate you might be put off. Don't be. The chocolatier is a delightful Northern Irish Cambodian who is passionate about his art and will fascinate and delight any passing chocoholics.

If you're after an exclusive gift, you can have a pair of chocolate shoes made to order or several other oddities, all too beautiful to eat but a great talking point.

I think this may be the original Valeries - but it is definitely the best! I agree with some of the more negative reviews of other branches for this cafe, but trying this one on Old Compton Street is a must. The cakes and gateaux range is extensive with the most beautiful and tastey treats imaginable. These are not just cakes - baked on site, they are more masterpieces of confectionary and need to be tried to be believed. A large slice of chocolate gateaux with real strawberries is about Â£4 - but worth it. They have an extensive range of teas (darjeeling, oolong, ceylon etc) and lovely rich roasted coffee. On a busy saturday, this place is a haven as most shoppers and tourists choose the Starbucks/Neros options. They also do lovely breakfasts and lunch snacks and a huge fresh fruit salad. I have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful - but have also seen them being rude to customers who were rude to them first, so I think it helps to be smiley. I have often sat there for over an hour on saturday afternoons reading a book with one pot of tea, a cake and fruit salad and have never been made to feel I should leave or hurry up - so a good refuge.I think this may be the original Valeries - but it is definitely the best! A shop that is very similar to Aldi. Personally I think the Lidl stores are more nicely and cheerfully decorated than the somewhat drab Aldi stores with their grey colour scheme, Lidl have a nice yellow/blue colour scheme. The food however I think is lower quality and the prices are the same if a little higher. The fruit and vegetables are very good though and you can often find more exotic type vegetables here such as sweet potatoes and squash. again, like aldi, what disappoints me is how much they support factory farming by stocking such large amounts of intensively reared meat and eggs. besides that, I'd give it a 5/10 for quality and price and a 8/10 for service as the checkouts are very fast and queues quickly disappear.A shop that is very similar to Aldi. Marks and Spencers seemed to jump onto the bandwagon after Tesco Metros and Expresses to try and take on the local convenience store market with their smaller local stores that specialise only in Marks and Spencerâ¬"s food, hence the name.
The items they sell are a more limited edition of what you would find in the food sections of their larger stores and seemed to be mainly aimed at the quick meal type market or lunchtime food type articles. It is not really the place to go if you were doing a full weekly shop but it is ideal if you just wanted a few items or to grab some lunch or a quick meal.
A further point to note is that even though they sell the same items as they would in their main stores, the prices of the items in these sub braches is slightly more than those found in the main branches.
