Essentially, one very clever chap from Scotland built the first machine in the world that was capable of measuring stress, weight, pressure, tension ..etc..etc.. and it's here to be seen with associated ancillary equipment. All is explained by those with the knowledge on guided tours. I've done two visits and feel more like a little boy who has just found a new toy ! It was also used to test the structural integrity of some component parts that went into the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Tourists, best to check opening times as they vary through the year and according to interest. A visit here can easily be tied in with the nearby Tate Modern or Globe Theatre. However, I recommend looking up somewhere on Trusted Places for eateries as pubs in general tend to vary greatly in the Bankside area.Possibly one of the finest examples of Victorian scientific and engineering design to be seen in London. No longer dark and claustrophobic but open and light and easy to find your away around.

Visiting on a Sunday during half term, there were alot of kids there, but it never felt overly packed, or even too noisy. Spread over aground floor and two mezzanine style floors, the noise gets lost in the height, and lots of specialist kiddy areas seemed to keep small children occupied and out of the way.

The cafe, whilst possibly a bit small, was well priced, and the chips, as I seem to be obsessed by, were amazing! They were chips as I remember them from my childhood, made with real potatoes and obviously twice fried. Over the years I've taken many friends and family there on countless occasions and each time, I (we) experience something new. On my last visit, we had time to read the terrible casualty lists suffered by Londoners of all age groups during nightly bombing raids. These lists were written up daily by the London Fire Brigade and Police. Today they serve as a sharp reminder to all of us in one way or another as to what we think democracy and freedom is and the awful sacrifices made by past generations to ensure it was maintained ! Tourists, disabled access, audio equipment and personal assistance available.Once visited, The Cabinet War Rooms are one of those places that you will never forget. Amazing!

I think Dana centre is on the edge of making science overly popular and not going deep enough. Last week I was there to see some groups discussion about extending human life, futuristic medical plasters, robots who can feed themselves and more. A bit frustrating.

The staff were all wearing these wireless speakers which made them look like
star trek the newest generation and also I think some of them are chosen to look 'astro'
to fit with the place...

I am happy it exists but will take it in small portions.I like this place in general but you need to know when to go.
The best stuff I have seen there was a beatbox performance with a twist:they attached an ultrasound machine while the person was making beats and you could see his tongue on the ultrasound.

Review by Mir

Rating: 5.00
Website: http://ukspirituality.org/

Tags: alternative
As people have for thousands of years, a group of 45 gathered together to mark the longest night of the year at Fridayâ¬"s Winter Solstice event at Unity Church in Islington. The evocative ceremony was rich with words, chanting, music, silence, candle lighting, and the highlight, a labyrinth walk, symbolically bringing light into this dark time.

One entered the space in darkness, with a candlelit path to guide the way. As people settled into the candle room, all joined for moment of quiet reflection, followed by poetry, a candlelighting ritual, and chanting. Then we all walked the labyrinth, which was just brilliant.

Unitarian Minister Andy Pakula and Interfaith Minister Danielle Wilson created a safe and sacred space for all to get centred in their own way. Andy noted later that helping strangers to come together in a way that is welcoming for people of all faiths and none is important to his ministry. Unitarianism is a faith tradition without dogma that grew out of the most radical arm of Protestantism. Danielle said that her ministry has earth centred roots and also welcomed all.

After the labyrinth walk, the participants joined together for mulled wine and food in a suitably festive atmosphere. Most people had been searching for a place to celebrate the Solsticeâ¬what did we all do before Google?

Meeting new friends was an unexpected outcome of the Winter Solstice. Phone numbers were exchanged with some people expressing surprise to find kindred souls in the N1.

Works from up and coming as well as established Indian artists can be purchased there, as well as furniture, books and gifts.

Every other week there is a free cultural event, for example Asian film showings, auctions and private views.

Itâ¬"s definitely worth e-mailing info@thenoblesage.com to join the mailing list and keep up to date with whatâ¬"s going on at the gallery.

The gallery space is beautiful and the art works are all unique. There are pieces by artists who are fast becoming collectable all over the world, and itâ¬"s very exciting to be part of this.

As the gallery is in North London as opposed to central London prices are reasonable, and what makes this place better than other art galleries is the informal and friendly attitude of the staff. They always seem happy to answer client questions about the pieces on display.

Just turn left out of East Finchley tube station and walk up the hill for a minute, then take the first right on Fortis Green - you'll see the gallery immediately on the left. It is open from 9am-5pm every Saturday.

Ok, it is tiny compared to Borough, with no where near the selection of goods, but it is growing on a weekly basis and soon they hope to have 120 stalls each week. Even so, we were pleasantly surprised with the selection of goods available, recognising some of the vendors from Borough, and discovering some new ones as well. We found it a lot easier to browse and shop here as there was room to move.

The shops lining the street are also worth a browse. Perhaps you a feeling peckish and have a hankering for a some hot jellied eel, or need to buy a gift, or want to relax in one of the small cafes and watch the market activity.

Broadway Market has a great community feel to it and I know we will venture back again soon - looking forward to seeing it grow and prosper.Love Borough Market but don't love the crowds - perhaps Broadway Market is for you! Broadway Market is a farmers market located between Bethnal Green and Hackney, just south of London Fields.
