I was very tired, I was very merry. And I was very hungry. Long story but my friend Amy from school--who's bad cop to my good cop--told me I had to meet her friend ConAnn who now lives in London with her husband. So ConAnn and I met up for lunch and, well, what else do you do on a Saturday afternoon but get a manicure?

She lives in an awesome flat on Covent Garden. Rupert Everett was considering buying upstairs. Fancy! So we needed a quick lunch so we could make our manicure appointments so we went to Cafe Valerie.

Oh my God. (And you must imagine my Long Island Accent now.) It was so crowded. We couldn't even enter. But lucky for us, a table had opened up outside and we scooped it up because it was drizzly and no one else wanted it.

Service was prompt and friendly and efficient. I got the chicken ceasar and it was satisfying. Not the best, but certainly not the worse. It was good. ConAnn got the tomato mozeralla salad, and some french fries. (And why not?) The frites were served in the French bistro way--the big bowl--which I'm a big fan of after spending so much time in the International terminal at Heathrow. (The restaurant in the corner--my secret!)

The Verdict: I'd go again if I needed a quick lunch that was slower than fast food but faster than slow food. Takari's food and service is probably the best Ive had for a while. its become really difficult to find great indian resturants but ive just stumbled across one (Takari) I have never written a review before but Takari deserves the recognition for raising the bar in Indian food. The service was flawless the food was piping hot and the drinks chilled. The total experience was very satisfying. Its the best indian in the west end. The Plasma Tv playing indian movie songs coupled with lovely delicious food and drink made for a very entertaining evening. I would definatly reccommed Takari its the best Indian food ive ever had.. The Adelphi theatre is set in the middle of theatre land at the Strand. It can be reached easily by underground and you can see the sights at Covent Garden before the show.
The theatre itself is not as large as you would think.
The stage is very small, when you consider that this is a west end theatre putting on a top show. The seats are cramped and old fashioned, not very much leg room if you are tall. The better seats at the front of the theatre are double the money, but they are much closer to the action and you do get a better view.
The revolving stage was used a lot with some funny moments that included a few multi toned rainbow sheep, the show is good and a must see.The Adelphi theatre is set in the middle of theatre land at the Strand. My wife and I have been coming here for years and wouldn't miss it on our trips to London. Mr. Italo Muro, the owner, and Joe, the head waiter will treat you like part of the family. This place is about great food, ambiance, and people that treat you like you've come to their home for supper. Last Friday, we met a few friends in Covent Garden and we were brought to the opera-themed Sarastro Restaurant on Drury Lane. Words cannot express what the decor is in this place - imagine half pseudo-rococo, half Liberaceâ¬"s home - those of you who have either been to or walked by this opera-themed restaurant will know what Iâ¬"m talking about.

Iâ¬"ll be honest - Iâ¬"ve always wanted to see what it was really like inside one of these flamboyant rooms. I could have had my pick of locations as there are two other restaurants with similar themes: Papageno (same owners) and Salieri. Upon entering, we were led to one of the upstairs booths that provide privacy and I guess is supposed to give one a feeling of exclusivity, like sitting in a real opera box. After settling in (which was a challenge as we had to contort ourselves to sit down at the table) and examining the bizarre tablecloth and napkins (crushed velvet!?), we were given menus and food immediately started arriving at the table. What was this? Glancing at our menus answered my questions - we had to choose from a three-course set menu. This was the first major bad sign of things to come. We were never told that we would be limited to this and nowhere on their website does it say this either.

I understand small menus - a small menu allows for the chef to have more control over the quality of the dishes and allows for your food to come quickly. At places like Sarrastro, though, this rather pricey set menu is obviously to cut costs and maximise profits. Appetizers were the cheap mass-produced kind: hummus, tzatziki, fried halloumi, cheese borek, fried calamari, dolmades. While the dips were presented in large-ish family-size bowls, the countable items were very stingily counted out to equal the number of people in our party. Never have I seen 6 sad calamari rings (count â¬Üem, 6!) presented on a bed of lettuce. The cheese pastries and halloumi was almost inedibly salty but luckily the fluffy Turkish bread that accompanied all this was quite nice with the dips.

When the waiter came to take our orders for the main course, I asked for his recommendation between the braised lamb shank and the duck a lâ¬"orange. After some hesitation, he suggested the lamb - but when the food came out, I saw that his recommendation really meant the lesser of the two evils. The lamb shank was enormous. What a massive dish - I felt a bit like a cave-woman tackling this beast.

Unfortunately, quality and quantity cannot mutually exist in a dish at places like these. While the portion was huge, the lamb didnâ¬"t taste of muchâ¬¦just very dull lamb. The meat wasnâ¬"t exactly falling off the bone and there were dangerous shards of bone throughout my shank. The duck eaters fared no better - a limp, overly-gamy, and probably from frozen, sliced duck breast with a thin, translucent, and possibly bottled, orange sauce poured on top. One of our friends just couldnâ¬"t eat hers and asked for a replacement. To their credit, they quite happily switched it for the more edible salmon; to their discredit, the salmon arrived approximately 5 seconds after the duck was taken away. Hmmmâ¬¦suspiciously quickâ¬¦ Accompanying our meals were family-sized bowls of boiled potatoes and boiled, yet undercooked, mixed vegetables.

The real kicker came at dessert time. The set menu proclaimed that we would receive Turkish sweets and a fresh fruit platter. Turkish sweets turned out to be a tiny syrup soaked sweet, not baklava but tulumba, for each of us (count â¬Üem, 6!) and alongside lay some of the thinnest slices of pineapple the world has ever seen. The fruit platter was a large platter with whole, uncut, cheap fruits - apples, bananas, oranges, grapesâ¬¦and the biggest joke of all, a whole pineapple in the centre, with no proper knives to cut any of them. Well, I was feeling slightly bitter by this time and proceeded to bag up that pineapple - weâ¬"re currently enjoying it at home!

And what did we pay for this catering-style meal? - Â£30 a head. Just looking at that number causes me to reminisce of the wonderful meals Iâ¬"ve had at Le Vacherin that came to about that amount. And I havenâ¬"t even come to the musicians! Being an opera-themed restaurant, I would expect some music to be played. I do not, however, expect the band to sound like a mariachi band - nor do I expect the tambourinist to come around to each table, demanding money and shouting â¬SOlÃ©! OlÃ©!â¬

Whisky lovers every where should check out Cadenheads.
TheCovent Garden Whisky Shop is the only shop in London that sells true malt whiskies. They said that they usually have over 170 or so malt whiskies in stock,so when I went gift hunting I was really spoilt for choice. That did make it hard to pick some thing but the staff were helpful.
If you are looking for some thing individual and unique then this is the place for you.
They never add any artificial colouring to their whiskies to enhance the colour and it is not usual for more than one whisky to be bottled at a time. This means that each malt even from a from particular distillery can offer different flavours. I chose the cambletown malt for my gift and it went down a treat. Will be back to buy a few xmas gifts here very soon, but need to budget for this as it is not cheap here.Whisky lovers every where should check out Cadenheads.

The aldwych theatre is quite close to holborn tube station so it is easy to get there. The theatre is quite nice, but make sure you pay alittle extra to get a good view of the stage other wise you will miss out. The show is a real winner, we all loved the film with patrick swayze and the stage show is just wonderful. The cast pulled out all the stops and we had a really great time singing along to the music. The dancing was superb and we thought the leading roles were acted and performed well. It does get hot in the theatre, so do not dress in hot or thick clothing as you will melt. Nice, lively and unusual atmosphere. Conveniently located just off the beaten Long Acre track.
The variety of Belgian beers is excellent, with many on draught and very well kept.
Should really have tried their wines, but who wants to risk these if you can drink such superb beers?!
When we last visited, we discovered the subtle combination of large cubes of medium-mature Dutch Gouda cheese and a dark, warm Belgian brew.
The snack menu is great if all you want is just a quick bite and a few beers. Everything is cooked to order by kitchen staff who know their stuff. Haven't been able to fault them once.
Lowlander is a good example of what Covent Garden actually needed - a non-pretentious bar with prices that are high enough to keep it 'select' and not hideously expensive either.

My girlfriend and I went for the Â£11 summer menu one evening, and it was excellent! Two courses and a glass of wine for Â£11 a head made it great value.

Service was prompt and the staff were friendly. There was a good selection on the summer menu, which changes daily and many of the same dishes were on the main menu. If they can be compared, I would say the a la carte menu is still very good value for the standard of food that you get.

If you can get hold of the summer menu vouchers I would say this is an essential place to visit, if not I would say this restaurant still has some of the best value food around the West End. The White Hart is one of the oldest licensed pub in London, and its a pretty lively pub with plenty of space for all. The range of drinks is excellent with the bar staff to match. The friendly yet lively atmosphere provides an excellent place to drink in late afternoons through to close. Food is available and is well worth a look at. It's a small but adequate menu and it is very tasty.

The White hart is quite a threatre pub, and late in the evenings it can get busy but this certainly adds to the atmosphere. There are larger tables and a large back area so you can easily book these for party and private functions. I came to Sitaaray with high expectations, having read the raving reviews elsewhere. The atmosphere did not disappoint, with Bollywood posters, memorabilia and videos on the walls.

Ordering the Â£18.50 all you can eat kebab menu, all was good. The food was fine to begin with, the fish kebabs being particularly well cooked and tasty. However, the meat kebabs were very sweet and a bit sickly after you've had a few. I thought that we might have caught them on a bad night, but from the other reviews it seems this is par for the course. Service was very good and we never had to wait for anything - the food just kept on coming.

The range of cocktails is very good and well worth a visit on its own.

This is really one of my favourite London restaurants. I first tried it out after a west end show then chose to go again for my 18th birthday as I enjoyed my first visit so much. I could come here again and again! The food is really fantastic as are the prices! Cocktails here are fabulous and the prices at happy hour really our something to smile about! Potato skins and fajitas are a top tip from me, so tasty, a really enjoyable treat. The staff are friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is good. The restaurant becomes a club some evenings which I hear is also good for a night out! If you enjoy mexican food and a bit of a Latin flavour then this is the best place to go!This is really one of my favourite London restaurants. Abokado seems a fairly new venue to London, and at present I have found only about 3 branches. It specialises in wraps, and in particular their sushi wraps are very delicious and well filled. The staff are extremely helpful, and an unusual and filling lunch can be had here for about Â£5 - expensive for everyday, but a nice change and a treat for your tastebuds.

One thing which really surprised me about the shops was the quality of their coffee. I wasn't expecting anything special, but in fact their coffee was better than Starbucks - a really excellent tasty cuppa!Abokado seems a fairly new venue to London, and at present I have found only about 3 branches. This is one of my favourite theatres, its so tiny, it only hold about 20 rows of people and if you are lucky enough to be in the front rows the show starts in amonsgt the audience. This theatre has shown the woman in black for years upon years which is one of my favourite plays. It only stars two characters, I wont go into too much detail as I donâ¬"t want to spoil it. If like me you had read the book first and been scared then you wont be dissapointed by the play. You can often get cheaper tickets on the day from the covent garden ticket offices. I have to say this is a very nice restaurant. It had a really good atmosphere when we were there, and I agree that the staff were a credit to themselves and their profession. If only all waiters were this efficient and helpful. The food was of high qaulity in addition. This is normally a good combination in a restaurant, but that combined with relatively cheap prices, means this is a curry house we will return to regularly. They also had a nice wine list, and my partner said the beer was good too. Good decor and lighting created a lovely ambiance and it actually felt a little romantic. the lyceum pub is a strange creature: involving a weird mix of theatre fiends, local drunkards and students from Kings College near-by. It remains a fairly large pub (two floors) that is bound to provide you with a cheap and tasty ale at a price that will put a smile on your face. I went to Homage last year with my boyfriend to celebrate our anniversary. It was a really lovely restaurant with just about the most amazing wine rack known to man! It wasn't particularly full but the atmosphere was still lovely. We went with a special offer so paid considerably less than you would usually expect but we were still treated wonderfully but the waiters and maitre'd. They were so attentive and well mannered. Our 3 courses were divine, I started with salmon and had a gorgeous lamb dish for my main. We also had champagne. I couldn't have asked for a nicer place to celebrate with my loved one, it was made to be a very special evening.
