Egg is brilliant - cheap, wholesome food, kitsch, chilled atmopshere with great music and the opportunity to BYOB - what more could you want! Really worth a visit - it's a cute little hideaway to hang out with friends or just chill out yourself with a good book and a glass of vino. It was my sister's 21st recently so the family went out for a big birthday lunch. Host fitted the bill, a nice mix of different oriental food in a comfortable, laid-back restaurant. I don't usually go for asian fusion but this place has got the blend just right.....elegant looking dishes combined with the full flavours of asian food.

Most of us went for a starter and a main so I got to see a lot of the dishes. Me and keith shared the slow roast pork belly, duck dumplings and beef teriyaki with kimchi as starters and then I had a seafood yellow curry with rice. Keith had the coley which was a special (coley main with a bottle of asahi - Â£7.95) in a vietnamese sweet and chilli sauce and greens.

The pork belly and asian slaw was fine although I expected the pork to be more tender, it looked like it had just been pan-fried on both sides rather than slow roasted. The flavour of the dumplings were perfect but there could have been more filling. The kimchi accompaniment turned out to be cabbage with some chilli on it rather than the proper korean type.

The fish in my curry were perfectly cooked, so moist in a sweetish curry sauce. I loved the concept of Keith's dish....lightly battered fish with oriental greens and a tangy spicy sauce. The sauce was really tasty, the only problem was that it was so blow-your-head-off spicy. I mean, I was on a table with some of my cousins who I know can eat super spicy food but even they were having problems with it!

Don't go for any of the ramens. Both of the people who had it couldn't finish it. I didn't try it myself but they said the soup wasn't very good.

PLEASE READ THIS DONT GO. Possibly the worst meal I have ever had.

When we got there it was a very nice place, then I ordered lemonade and orange my lemonade was flat so I thought never mind.

The starter was very nice but there was no oils on the table only salt and pepper. We then ordered chargrilled lamb chops and the kleftika lamb on the bone.

we got 6 lamb chops with a slice of lemon and the kleftika was like a cheap tin of chopped tomato with herb had been poured over the top (2 spoonfuls) served with a slice of lemon.

Then came our rice and chips about 20 chips and a cupful of rice ( no greek roast potatoes ?)after finishing and still hungry we paid Â£38 and nobody asked if we enjoyed our meal.

After approximately 2 years of travelling to Manchester on a weekly basis for eating out, we decided to try yet again the Red Forte where we had not been for nearly two years. Though the previous occasions were not spectacular, still them were not exactly total disappointment.
We had a nice little quite corner to sit and so the beginnings were encouraging. We asked for our favourite Mango lassi. And then it came, i m not sure what it was but it was more like sweet yoghart water, as there was niether any taste nor any color of mango in it! it was white liquid with a very faint yellow tinge, it looked and tasted more like if somebody added some coloring ingredient into yoghart water.
The starters, qeema puri was edible, but Shaami kebab did not taste like a shaami kebab at all, it was more like minced meat mixed with spice and fried, again total loss.
The biggest joke of the evening was the main course Achari Gosht, believe me, you gota have teeth and jaws of a shark to prey on that meat, God, it was worse then bitting a bullet, we could not even eat a single piece of meat, i even tried cutting it with knife! but yet no success!
And then what? when we complained this to one of the waitors, he had a news for us! what? that, when we came last time, we also made a complaint against food.....WHAT???? may be our twin duplicates been dining around in Lark lane when we were having a ball in posh Manchester restaurents the last two years!
I still cant believe what hapened there, but one thing i do believe in, is no more Red Forte!

I have been to the Pioneer on a number of occasions and the food has been ok. My last visit however has put me off going again. I ordered the Gambas from the specials board and when they came they smelt strongly of amonia. I was with a small group who also agreed and although I wasn't going to mention anything one of my friends did. I asked the waitress who denied smelling anything offensive and took them away. She came back some time later to say the chef said they were fresh in today and he'd had them himself. Went to Mayur for a cosy dinner. The ambience was great. What a decor. Not the usual curry house. It looked and felt graceful. Starters -Burrah Champ (Lamb Chop) was better than any thing I had tasted. The service was a bit slow as it was very busy with some large groups. Main course - Patrani Macchi
(Seabaas-steamed in banana leaves with spices) was really healthy option. Nothing great about dessert - the usual kulfi and indian sweets though presentation was very good. What a great place, the food was excellent I had the beef with noodles and sweet chilli sauce. Then a pasta starter crayfish linguini, georgeous!! The deserts were even better as we all have a sweet tooth we had three to share, the lemon cake was the best.
Next time I will take my husband so I will book well in advance as it is only small and I am sure it will get booked up quick!What a great place, the food was excellent I had the beef with noodles and sweet chilli sauce. Visited Sultans Palace a couple of weeks ago after the football match.Don't let the nicely eluminated outide entrance make a fool of
you, when you enter, you have to go down into the
basement which feels like entering a dark cave.
Despite this, we still ate at this restaurant as it was late, and we were hungry. The food was very poor, just another run of the mill indian restaurant, trying to do what they can never achieve I think. To add to this the staff , were eager to get us out quickly because we kept them behind late.

To sum up, it was a mistake going there even

I have been here a few times now. On my last visit we found hair in our food and were given dirty glasses. Needless to say I won't be back, the management had an awful attitude stating it was 'only hair'. A far better indian is the one next to the old Odeon.I have been here a few times now.
