This Chinese Supermarket is located close to China Town in Liverpoolâ¬"s City Centre - but a little difficult to find if your not familiar with the area.

Itâ¬"s a fairly large Supermarket selling a huge variety of authentic Chinese & Asian Food. You can spend hours here just wandering around looking at the strange and exotic offerings. Itâ¬"s looks kind of like a Wholesale Cash and Carry, a bit rough around the edges and devoid of the usual Supermarket bright lights and shiny floorsâ¬¦ but I think it makes the whole experience a little more enjoyable.

The Supermarket sells everything required to make a delicious and authentic Chinese or Thai meal, from fragrent Spices, rice, noodles, fresh Vegetables and even frozen ready made meals.

They also have a section of the store dedicated to Kitchen & Cooking Equipment and its a great place to pick up cheap bamboo steamers, chopsticks or professional rice cookers at a fraction of the cost. I cant stress how cheap it it, last time I picked up a Bamboo Steamer for just Â£1.50!! you cant beat it.

This is a great supermarket for wannabee Chefs to get some inspiration or to stock up on store cupboard essentials that are difficult to find (or too expensive) in your standard supermarket.

I also like to go in just before Christmas to do some Christmas Shopping, I often buy a few different products to make up an Interesting food Hamper to give as a Gift, it always goes down well with the recipients.

Its good here to come here and find some bargains you can find toys,stationery a whole load of bargains from here for very good prices from here.The prices are really good here you get what you bargained from here!

I usually get the chocolates for my kids from here,the dairy milk is always on offer five for a pound you cant go wrong with that.I also buy multi cans from here 4 for a pound PEPSI!Its good here to come here and find some bargains you can find toys,stationery a whole load of bargains from here for very good prices from here.The prices are really good here you get what you bargained from here!

I was a student living on Smithdown Road and this Asda was a great help. There is a bus stop right outside which is great. Lots of smart price items to buy! The best thing is that there are quite a few cash points outside the Asda. These were alwatys handy on a night out, as all the taxi drivers are willing to stop there on your way into town! Aswell as selling food, this Asda also has quite a lot of things for your house that you can buy. great to jazz up any dul student house. Aswell as cleaning things!

The asda store itself is very well kept and quite spacious and clean. The worst Tesco in Liverpool? Possibly (although the inflated prices at Tesco Express make that a close run thing).
Never ever ever visit at 5pm - EVERYONE in liverpool is there, and they all have supermarket rage. In fact, avoid all weekend, and anywhere close to closing.
There's no room to queue for the checkouts, the staff on the tobacco counter will practically have you arrested if you try and purchase items other than tobacco or lottery tickets there, and the whole shop is a misery wrapped up in a sinkhole of despair.
In addition, all the fruit and veg I've bought from there has rotted incredibly fast - so much so that I've had nearly Â£20 in compensation from them because I wrote and complained.

As a Scottish girl in Liverpool, I was absolutely delighted to try out the Home Bargains shops. People may be aware of the rumour that Scottish people are very sensible with their money and this is a shop where you can come out with your bags bursting with bargains whilst you still have change from a tenner.

I work with children and need to buy prizes and gifts for them very regularly and at Home Bargains I can find goods that please my pupils without making too much of a dent in my pocket.

Obviously you cannot go in to this shop with a list and expect to get everything you need. Being a flexible shopper is important as you need to have a browse around and see which bargains tickle your fancy. Used this branch of Oddbins recently to order several hundreds of bottles of wine and fizz for a conference.
The website is clear and easy to use, the discounts offered for bulk buys are reasonable, and the free glass hire is a godsend.
The staff when I called to place the order and ask if we could pay by cheque were helpful, friendly, efficient and charming. When I popped in to confirm the order, they were immediately on the ball, and reassuring. The delivery was smooth (even though the delivery man had to navigate the security gates at the conference venue) - and the glasses were all clean and usable (bar two with cracks) - which isn't always a given.
The wine we had was very very good - and good value on the special offer, including the discount for bulk ordering.

Cheap but not cheerful...
Netto is a no frills supermarket, with a limited range of fresh produce but quite a load of tinned goods. It is certainly cheap and for some staple items beats any of the other supermarkets. However, I am not convinced by the quality of their goods - the veg selection in particular is dire, they only stock absolute basics and they don't look very appetising. Their bread range is equally limited.

Sells an interesting mix of special offers though, from toiletries to home ware to toys. Some good bargains to be had here, e.g. nappies can be really cheap when on offer

My advice: go to Aldi or Lidl instead if you want to save money.Cheap but not cheerful...

Open 7 am till midnight during the week, until 10pm on Saturdays, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
Facilities include a cafe, photo processing, baby care facilities, toilets, cash machine. Unfortunately there are no recycling facilities here at all, i.e. you can take your bottles, papers, cans, old clothing here.
The product range is large, and includes clothing, home ware, electronic goods, stationary, books, CDs, DVDs, computer games, toys, baby articles and obviously food. There is a large fresh produce section, a fish and meat counter and an in store bakery.
Tesco does a lot of 'Buy One Get One Free' offers, but if you buy full price articles this is not your cheapest choice.

Limited size supermarket, so choices isn't huge, but still has a sizeable fresh produce section, small entertainment section including books, magazines, CDs, console games and DVDs. Large frozen food aisle. Limited range of ready made meals, but large section of ingredients and tins.
Watch out, only one till (in furthest corner) is wide enough for prams, pushchairs and wheelchairs!
And consider nipping to Home & Bargain next door for some real bargainsâ¬¦

Great opening hours, open daily from 6am to 11pm, even Sundays, so gets really busy on Sunday late afternoons and evening as it is the only shop open then in the area.
Product range is very limited, surprisingly small wine choice considering the target customers, and not many offers are available here. Also fresh produce seems to be more expensive than in larger Tescos. Nice bakery section and standard ready meals available.

Sept 2008 - just in the process of being extended, so brave the building work now or wait until next month for the newly extended shop.
Aldi sells good quality food for bargain prices, and offers special buys, changing twice a day, ranging from camping gear (great value tent) to clothes (men's suit jackets for Â£17), to PCs or TVs (32" widescreen digital TV for Â£300). As these offers change twice a week it is worthwhile signing up for their newsletter.
Also good for all kinds of continental food that would be expensive delicatessen elsewhere!

Aldi is a German supermarket chain, that - especially now with the credit crunch - is becoming more and more popular in the UK.
They claim that they are 20% cheaper than other supermarkets, and I certainly notice a difference in my spend compared to my usual shop at Tesco or Asda.
The product range is limited - there is basically one of each, but what there is seems great quality. Particularly recommended: Italian antipasti range in glass jars -sun dried tomatoes, wild mushrooms, artichokes or roasted peppers for Â£0.99 each! Can't beat that...
Also great: Anti Wrinkle Night Cream Siana was Channel 4's How to Look good Naked Category winner. An absolute bargain at Â£1.89!
