Hannah's in a great hangout. The drinks are averagely priced and the food surprisingly cheap. There's often live music there which is always fun and it's always packed at weekends with some great DJs. The best bit is a summer evening upstairs with a glass of wine: the room is all glass with a removable roof - bliss!Hannah's in a great hangout. I think there has been a takeover since the last review.
I ordered a cheese filled chicken wrapped in bacon, but the cheese had gone awol - no sign of any cheese at all. It did, however, come with tomato sauce, although no mention of this on the menu.The carrots were cold.I had half a dozen peas on my plate - I think they arrived via the green beans and were put on by mistake.The fruit crumble appeared and tasted of crumbled digestive biscuits mixed with sugar.My fellow diner ordered a curry which was served in a bowl - it was hot, but watery and thin.A spoon would have been more appropriate than a knife and fork.The service with a smile was definately missing.We did eat here fairly regularly as it is local, but will restrict ourselves to drinks only in future.The pub itself is lovely.

As a regular visit to Liverpool, I like going here for something to eat, as I always enjoy what I have from the menu.

This could be a really good pub, there's a good mix of people in there and the room itself is nice with the central bar.

The problem, I think, lies with the management. It would appear they have let things slide, from the stinking toilets to the inedible food (I had stuffed chicken in there last week which was literally rock hard, the type of dryness that can only be achieved by too much microwaving).

It's usually a hassle to get served, draught lagers and beers are often unavailable, and tables are left heaving with soiled plates and empty glasses.This could be a really good pub, there's a good mix of people in there and the room itself is nice with the central bar.

To be fair I can't comment on the quality of drinks or friendliness of service, as we didn't spend long enough in the place to get to the bar.

The Beaconsfield is a basement pub sat on the corner of North John Street and Victoria Street, so just round the corner from the Cavern Club and associated lively area. We went there on the basis of a recommendation from a friends colleague, and I can only assume he misheard the question, as this could surely only be rated as a place to avoid.

On walking in, there was karaoke in full swing which, as we discovered, is pretty common in Liverpool. What was unusual was that it was so loud that it brought instant headaches, and prompted us to walk straight back out again. The pub has two entrances which meant we didn't even have to turn around to leave.

Very welcoming Pub on the back road out of Crosby on the way to Formby.
The food it serves is not your normal 'deep-fried tat' you get in most Pubs, but varied and fresh well made food, easily passable for good restaurant food.
The pub was recently refitted and it now feels very cosy, with tables around open fires, etc.
The Waiting staff, strangely enough, are some of the best I have experienced!! Very helpful, courteous and quick. Price wise it's not bad, a little bit more than an average pub, (but the food is SO much better)Very welcoming Pub on the back road out of Crosby on the way to Formby.

It should be a source of great pride to Liverpudlians that the restaurant scene in this city is rapidly growing into one of the most exciting and varied to be found anywhere outside London. While the London Carriage Works, 60 Hope Street and (to a lesser extent) the Panoramic continue to impress at the top end of the scale, it is the emergence of bistros such as Candice Fonseca's Delifonseca and the excellent Keralan Maharaja (the Kastoori of the North West) that demonstrate a city genuinely maturing as a culinary destination. And to anyone who thinks these developments are simply the inevitable and passive by-product of a countrywide post-Jamie change in attitudes to eating, I present as evidence Manchester, which despite being arguably a wealthier and more developed city can hardly boast more than a tiny handful of decent eateries. It comes to something where a branch of Simply Heathcotes is the best place in town to eat, and yet you really can't do much better in Manchester, even in Chinatown, although to be fair there's supposed to be quite a nice restaurant in the Urbis building which I'm sure I'll get around to trying out one day.

And there's another huge advantage that restaurants in Liverpool have over their rivals from around the country - a glorious legacy of buildings to house them in. It's hard to say whether 60 Hope Street would be as popular if it wasn't set in a handsome 18th century townhouse, or where the Panoramic would be without its spot on the 34th floor of the West Tower, but opening a new restaurant in an immaculately restored coaching inn in the Georgian Quarter means you can impress even before guests step through the front door. Of course, the mark of a great restaurant is one that continues to impress once the food starts arriving, and the Monro managed to impress on almost every level.

I'm sure you're tired of me apologising for my crappy iPhone pictures by now, but I will just say in my defence that although we remembered to bring up a proper cameraphone from London we didn't remember to bring a power cable, so it sat in the flat uselessly for two weeks and I had to make do with Blur-o-visionÂ© instead. Still, you'll get the idea.

After choosing a lovely bottle of house wine from the largely organic list (so unusual in this part of the country to be a talking point in itself), we settled down to eat. It is a mark of how rapidly restaurants in Liverpool have improved in recent years that I was imagining my "Wood pigeon breast set on a bed of wild mushrooms" as a cold and disappointing chunk of overcooked bird, and was therefore delighted to be presented with a warm, perfectly freshly cooked fillet sat atop an earthy and satisfying wild mushroom and pesto salad. You can probably even tell through the murk of my iPhone camera lens that this was an attractive dish, and I can assure you it tasted as good as it looked.

Normally steak and chips would be way down on my list of priorities for anywhere other than Hawksmoor, and to be honest the only reason I went for it on this occasion was because there was no supplement and it just came as part of the set menu. Again, tempering my expectation with memories of the Ghosts of Liverpool Dining Past, I was nothing short of stunned to receive not only gorgeous, fluffy, golden home made chips and a bucketload of creamy peppercorn sauce but a perfectly medium-rare steak of clearly very respectable provenance. Shot through with just enough succulent fat and seasoned correctly, it was precisely how steak and chips should be. I could have eaten about five.

And then finally, nestled cutely in the bottom of a bowl in a lake of frothy custard, came bread and butter pudding, lovely and rich and with a very good balance of flavours and textures. Bread and butter pudding can be delicious when done well, but so often are either sickly and sweet with too much sugar or cloying and stodgy with not enough liquid. This was a fine example, and disappeared quickly.

The arrival of the bill demonstrated another compelling reason to dine out in this city - those three generous courses, cooked with care and delivered with grace and efficiency, came to Â£16.95 a head. A pittance, and yet if we'd arrived just an hour earlier we could have had the same for a ludicrous Â£12.95. How they can be making a profit while including that lovely steak (which on its own would have cost about Â£20 in a London gastropub) is a mystery, and yet is by no means unique amongst restaurants in Liverpool - the generosity of the city goes well beyond Â£1 a pint nights in the Globe pub. The Monro appears to have suddenly turned itself into a "proper" (ie. London-style) gastropub after by all accounts being rather mediocre for a number of years, without allowing their prices to climb and without any creeping stuffiness in service or presentation. It seems a recent refurbishment was more than cosmetic, and perhaps also the appearance of the other fine-dining spots has meant the old guard has to up their game. Whatever the reasons, the Monro is not just "good for Liverpool", and not even just "good for outside London". It's good. I have given the Rocking Horse no stars what so ever due to the fact that I have just returned from a night out with work collegues that has been totaly ruined by the staff at the Rocking Horse. I ordered a medium to well done steak, when it arrived it was a dry as a bone, I returned it and requested what I ordered, I was advised that it would be about 10 mins and a fresh one would be cooked. After 30 mins it arrived back this was again as dry as a bone and looked alot like the steak I previously returned only a bit blacker. The other steak ordered by our party med to well done was slightly pink but not bloody. When I retuned the steak again I requested a refund of the cost of the steak I was advised by a very rude and arrogant member of staff that in his opinion there was nothing wrong with the steak and he would not refund me the cost of the meal. I requested to speak with the manager and after 10 mins she came out of the kitchen advise me that in her opinion the steak was not over done and I would not be issued with a refund. I advised her that I would speak to others ordering meals to advise them of the poor quality of the food I was presented with, she then told me I had to leave the pub or she would call the police and have me arrested. I was not abusive to any of the staff I spoke to I was polite and spoke calmly when I requested a refund of the money I had paid. As I had been threatened with the police if I did not vacate their premises I had no choice but for myself and my husband to leave. My collegues could not belive that I was being threatened with arrest over a steak. I am not a violent person and have never had any dealings with the police and to be threatened in such a way has left me shocked and stunned. I do not see why I should pay for somthing that was not of an acceptable standard. I went into the gardners arms a few days ago.
and i found out that the current manager is beeing replaced.
i heard that she is very good.
i no the current manager run the pub down to the ground.
it used to be a lovley place to go for food and drink.
as of this weekend the will be a new manager.

Nice decor, very old style and cosy. I feel like Iâ¬"ve stepped back in time in this pub but in a really nice way! Lots of little snugs and a large bar in the centre of the main room. There are also listed mens toilets (although I've yet to see them being female!) I have to agree with the other review though, its the only place in Liverpool I've been with friends and suffered at the hands of a pickpocket :( Got a phone stolen out of a coat so beware, it seems this is not an isolated incident. This place used to always be part of the Saturday night bar crawl round the city centre, especially for its choice of cheap shots. They have a massive menu of shots, all made up of different flavours and colours. They are all quite fun and make a good feature for the night out. I think they do deals if you buy a few at a time (i might be wrong, but i'm sure they have some offers on a tickertape screen above the bar). The bar always gets packed at the weekend, it is on a couple of levels. The interior is a bit messy but fun, with disco balls and bright colours everywhere. Good place to start a night out, and right by the bus stops! They do great food of a day, good prices and a large selection. Drinks are cheap too, they have offers on cocktails which are really nice! There are three floors, and a balcony. Also leads out to a little square where there are nice restaurants and it's right next to the Marriot hotel!
Great place to go after work, good of a night but mainly for sitting and having a chat as there's not much room for dancing! Plenty of couches, tables and stools, and toilets on every floor. Only problem is that sometimes it's a bit confusing knowing where to order food as it depends on what floor you're on.

Rating: 3.00Situated in West Derby village and surrounded by lots of pubs so great for a mini pub crawl! Also next to a chippy, off license and bank so everyhing you need, and right next to local bus stops and a taxi rank! But if you're driving there's loads of places to park and it's a decent area so you don't need to worry about your car! Inside is spacious, with plenty of chairs and tables. The bars runs right round the middle so it's easy to get served. The prices are reasonable, and there's always a good atmosphere when a match is on! This is the ultimate in cinema experience. The FACT is a grat place to go, they have mainstream films on as well as lesser known specials, usually accompanied by a talk by someone involved in the film, which can be very educational!
The bar is great, nice relaxed atmosphere and lots of comfy places to sit. Have a great selection of drinks( yes you can take alcohol into the film with you!) and is reasonably priced, maybe a bit more than other bars and cinemas but it's worth it. The chairs in the cinema are so comfy, and the screens are a decent size and you can see no matter where you sit. Would really recommend, so much nicer than normal cinemas!This is the ultimate in cinema experience.
