I was passing by at lunchtime and saw a nice selection of Indian Sweets/Cakes through the window and went inside on impulse.

Once inside I saw the menu also had Kebabs and figured I might as well indulge my Bab addiction... I ordered a Shish Kebab from the menu and was surprised when the friendly server put on 2 Kofte looking type kebabs on the grill. "Excuse me, I asked for Shish" I told him. He replied that they WERE what they called 'Shish' and they did not have the fresh cubed meat I was thinking of. The kebabs were pre-cooked and kept chilled behind a glass counter along with various curries and Tandoori Chicken Tikka. They did not have a Donner or any Spit type meats.

While the kebabs were being heated the friendly server (Shop owner's son) helped me with my selection of Indian Deserts to take home. There are a few seats to eat in but it was a lovely day so I ate outside on a nearby bench. The Kebab meat itself (I think it was Chicken and not Lamb) was not up to the fresh Koftes I occasionally have from Turkish outlets but was better than other pre-cooked meats of this type. It was more tender & juicy than most and was well spiced. The Salad was a basic one of onions, tomatoes, lettuce & cucumber but was definitely fresh though undressed. The Nan was again pre-cooked but warmed though nicely and did not taste like it was yesterday's bread. The Chilli Sauce was tomato ketchup with some added heat, not bad but not my idea of hot sauce. The Garlic Sauce was a nice 'Raitha' style one.

The service was excellent = friendly, helpful and informative. The value was good as well but I do not recall the exact price of the kebab as I got a box full of Sweets at the same time. I doubt I would return to Mohans for a kebab but the Cakes were Yummy!Mohans is an Indian Catering shop near to West Hounslow Underground Station. In the past I've simply quoted the number from my handy luggage tag on my hand-held luggage. But they are tightening up (presumably in case you have borrowed somebody else's luggage). So, you must go through your hundreds of cards and produce your membership card. Good to have it handy.

I liked the convenient lift to the upper level with windows. Designed for wheelchair users.

The usual 'buffet' at first appears rather spartan. However, if you look carefully, you find hidden goodies, often behind a glass door at knee level, or beyond the main display. Or on a menu which they will bring to you or which you find on a table. Such as great sandwiches. Fresh fruit. Depending on time of day, something sugary like a muffin or Danish pastry.

Watch out for disappearing buffets between mealtimes. In a hotel it would not matter but if you've a flight to catch and only twenty minutes in the lounge you don't want that food disappearing and the later buffet being put out after you've dashed off. Pity they don't warn you. However, if you ask, they can often fetch something from the kitchen.

You can order champagne. I wonder who can walk miles to the terminal gate after even one glass of champagne. I always mix mine with orange to make bucks fizz. The bar person will bring it to you.

They have the usual supply of all the UK and foreign newspapers.

Computer terminals. Did I see a sign asking you not to access porn channels out of consideration for other users of the lounge?

Oops! After checking stocks and shares and making himself miserable about the recession what else can a lonely businessman do to cheer himself up? Big brother is watching us even in the VIP airport lounge. I would have expected that, for security.

Another traveller suggested to me such signs are there because of the possibility of children in the lounge. (I do hate that - people taking squealing babies and whining toddlers into what should be a place for the VIPs on business to get on with work, away from disturbing or annoying noise and families.)

Seriously, I like the cubicles set sideways behind a barrier or at an angle. I try to move as soon as a more private or corner cubicle is vacated, from the computer monitors which are against the wall so the entire lounge behind you can see what's up on your screen. Both business and personal emails and websites should be kept private. All cubicles should be set sideways or at an angle.

I love being alerted to the time I must leave. It is so stressful to keep putting down the newspaper and checking your watch. The thing I hate about these lounges is when signs warn they won't alert you when it's time to set off to the gate to catch your plane. That is half the point of going to the lounge. To have your own 'office' with a 'secretary' to check you keep to time, especially if you've had very little sleep. And you've already had changes of schedule.

I'd already missed the previous day's flight because of a passport problem. It is so calming and reassuring to have somebody watching out for you. If you are nice to them and get friendly and they are not busy they will usually alert you.

If you are on a longhaul overnight flight to Singapore or Australia the in flight meal will be served at some silly time like after midnight UK time. So I prefer to eat in the airport lounge. Some people even eat in the lounge and skip the airline meal to get more sleep.

The ladies toilet in a frequent flyer lounge is of course superior to the ones out in the main airport. You might see a toothbrush or comb. In addition to the soap dispenser there might be a moisturizer. Spotlessly clean.

The Singapore Airlines first class lounge's Ladies at Changi is usually even more generously equipped. Frequent flyers in my family say the Virgin lounge at Heathrow has even more facilities. I went on line to check latest facts and found pages of forums full of entertaining reports from users of specific airline lounges all round the world grousing about yesterday's problems!

If you are not a member of a frequent flyer scheme you can buy a membership of a club which offers lounges at airports all over the world. They are not lounges for the big airlines which I know such as SIngapore. I'd be interested in hearing a comparison from other lounge users.Light, bright, white and airy.
You will get stopped on the way in and asked for your frequent flyer number. The space was much larger than imagined, and although stylish looking, the ambience was somehow more canteen like than I was expecting. It was the most boring and flavourless bacon and egg roll I think I have ever had. Next time we'll just stick to Giraffe.

The hotels are basic, and looking a bit tired. You can get family rooms with fold out beds for the kids, but when we stayed they didn't have the kids linen in the room, so we had to go and ask for it.

There are no breakfast facilities in the hotel, but the Services are next door, so you can grab something there.

The hotels are relatively close to Heathrow, so if you've got a car it may be a cheaper option than the hotels by the airport. But make sure you stay on the Westbound hotel, as you can only get out via the motorway, and you have to go all the way to Junction 1 to be able to do a U-Turn, which could take a long time in peak hour traffic. This travelodge is on the M4 at the services just before you enter London/just on the way out of London. I canâ¬"t quite understand why people would actually want to pay to eat there. This time we were there, 2 other tables were occupied. While ordering our food, I over heard another table complaining to staff about the fact the pizza was cold. This did not fill me with confidence. When our order finally came (after a very cold waitress took our order) our pizza was soggy and not cooked properly. Also we had ordered a salad, however half the pots at the salad bar were empty. I refused to pay a penny, and left still very hungry. I went home and ate.Every time I've been to Pizza Hut, I have not been impressed by the experience, and this time was no exception. As we moved into the area, I noted this takeway was very close by. The same evening I moved in I went and picked up a menu. I did not regret it. I found their service to be freindly and warm, they told us if we needed any advice on the area to just call them and ask, they couldn't have done anymore.
We ordered a substantial meal for four of us, plus our cat. Well the cat got to share some chicken anyway. The meal was ready in good time, the only downside being that they do not deliver. Once home we all found our food to be very hot, fresh and extremely tasty. A lot of Chinese restaurants boost the taste of their food using monosodium glutamate - this is what often gives a very sticky ("glue") mouth for many hours or if you are unlucky when you wake up the next day, but this was not evident with the Empire's food - they didn't need to artificially enhance the quality of the food as it clearly stands on it's own.
Pricing is very reasonable, you can get cheaper but the quality will suffer. The only place in the Hounslow area that could beat this has been reviewed by myself on this site and is a lot more expensive.Whenever I move, one of my top priorites is to find a really good Chinese takeaway to live off for a week or two. Be warned that the prices are also extortionately elegant. However, the atmosphere is very calming and the sorroundings (paintings and decorations) were mellow so if you've had a long journey already and are about to embark on the next leg of your travels, why not grab some lunch here? Their menu did not contain very many options for Vegetarians so maybe more of a choice for meat-lovers. They do also serve very tastey lasagnia which the waiter recommended to me as one of their more popular choices amongst customers. The Pizzeria which is airside at Heathrow's Terminal 4 is quite an eligant restaurant on the inside; don't let the outside fool you. Don't get me wrong, Wilkinsons is not a place synonymous with cheap tacky stuff. They have all the big brands and good value products at excellent prices. When I need to shop for the house, general bits and bobs, going on holiday or to keep the kids happy this place does it for me everytime. They have sections for everything you could think of whther you are after toiletries, food, kitchenware, D.I.Y., electricals or decorations. The prices on all their stock is good and hard to beat from other stores. This place is big and has a great selection. They have a good refund policy and are helpful, when I bought an item once and wanted to exchange it they did it no questions asked and when I wanted a refund for something I had bought double of they asked me the reason nicely and did it without hesitation. All round great value for your money and not had a bad experience there yet. What you see is what you get with this place. On the flipside, staff always seem to be playing hide and seek because when you don't need them they are there and when you do they are nowhere to be seen. As this is a popular store there are always big queues and there never seem to be enough staff to man all the tills at their disposal. Other than this nothing bad can be said, I love the place although I would dread having to wear one of those uniforms and going to work there, all credit to them guys.
Anytime I need anything I think about how much I need it, is it a neccessity, how cheap I can get it and then Wilkinsons. The place is completely cursed and a complete embarrassment to everyone associate with London. But on the plus side, our pilot's decision not to turn up for work resulted in me being given some vouchers to spend on "refreshments" anywhere I wanted within the terminal. Having guzzled more than my fair share of business class mini-bacon sandwiches and endless cups of tea I decided to make the most of my voucher. Wimpy? No thanks! Pret? Nope. Caviar House and Prunier? Yes please!

I had King Crab and a glass of very cold, dry white wine. Bliss. After all the hassle and stress of being in a crowded, hot and disorganised airport this cool, refreshing plate of tender crab was perfect, if a little pricey! But I wasn't paying. BA were! The contrast between the civilised setting of a luxury food outlet in an airport and the apocalyptically danger of the Deadliest Catch weren't lost on me. Just have a look at the sheer savagery of the waves in the video below. The Deadliest Catch is the Discovery Channel's hugely popular documentary about the reality of King Crab fishing in the Bering Sea. It's scary stuff and documents the death of an entire crew. So I sat with my glass of chilled white wine and sweet, salty crab meat and felt very fortunate that I don't make my living as a fisherman!

The Caviar House and Prunier is the only decent place to eat in the entire terminal. Which is a complete disgrace. On my way to Chicago I suffered at the hands of Heathrow.

It is only 10 minutes' walk from Hounslow centre and is well worth making the effort to visit. For the terminally idle buses 120 and 111 stop nearby. Make the most of it before some overpaid twat in a suit decides to turn it into a "Mr Q's" or "Slug and Parrot"!The Jolly Farmer in Lampton has several advantages - it looks and feels like a country pub, has a very pleasant beer garden, sells both best and pride, has 2 happy hours a week and is round the corner from Nass.
