I have only been to this venue once to hear One Republic at the weekend but I was bowled over straight away, I am used to seeing bands in the SECC and it always feels like they are miles away and you have to squint to see them. At the Carling Academy it feels like they are playing in your living room, up close and personal which means the sound blows you away, you hear every word, every note and literally feel the music through your chair. I would defiantly go back here to see a band! This fabulous burlesque show took place at the Capitol, 468 Sauchiehall St, Glasgow,on Friday 26th September , in their downstairs venue area.
We had a couple of drinks first in the ground level lounge which was well-kept with modern decor and seating. The actual show started at 8 pm and if you were early you could get one of the comfortable seats and tables near the stage. The atmosphere was vintage and exciting and we were itching to see the performances. Friendly 1940s style "Cigarette girls" came round selling popcorn/sweets/cakes and the compere, a flamboyant Cherry Loco introduced the acts, injecting some funny one-liners as he went along. Youve got to love the guy!
The performers themselves were all beautiful, fabulously corseted, expressive and had obviously taken a lot of time and effort in creating their individual acts, which were both funny, sexy, and with that all-important tease...the essence of burlesque, which was supremely captured. The band Sonny Marvello finished off the show with some fabulous sounds, and a style of their own..love those red bowler hats!
I would recommend the Cheesecake shows at the Capitol to everyone who appreciates fashion, style, cabaret,music, beauty, even history and art as burlesque incorporates both.
Have a fun night out at the Capitol Cheesecake Show next time on Halloween 31st October, the Night of the Living Tease......dont watch alone!!

After an absence of about 20 years I revisted this theatre for a performance of Joseph to celebrate my wife's birthday (obviously she came with me!). I remember attending various pantomines in my younger days and on reflection always had seats quite close to the front. The first thing that I realised was it was quite expensive to visit the theatre however as this was a late arrangement we ended up on the very back row at the back of the theatre. I wasn't sure what to expect for my Â£11 ticket however we weren't disappointed. The view was excellent even if you can't see facial expressions as they warn you when you book. This cinema is in the city centre of Glasgow and quite convenient if you are going out for meal before hand. It shows huge number of films over as many floors. It is quite pricey but all cinemas are these days and the snacks and drinks prices are extortionate especially on bottles of water. Seats are quite comfy and ambience nice. It gets quite busy on some Fridays and Saturdays especially the first one after a pay day so at those times book ahead if you are particular about what you want to see and to avoid the waiting and the disappointment (there is a little machine which releases your tickets when you put your card in).This cinema is in the city centre of Glasgow and quite convenient if you are going out for meal before hand. Tramway is fantastic venue to visit at any time. The venue hosts drama and dance performances (mostly in the evening) and visual art exhibitions. It offers an interesting backdrop for many shows - the building itself an old tram depot. Outside you can find the fantastic Hidden Gardens which is worth a visit just on its own - a garden dedicated to peace and tranquility in a busy city. Take a lovely walk amongst the birch trees, up to the water feature area and the charming tree library. The recently renovated cafe offers good selection of snacks and meals as well as coffees and cakes. Very robust and child friendly - kids play happily while grown ups chat. In the summer there tables outside in the gardens while the kids run around on the grassed area.Tramway is fantastic venue to visit at any time. The Barrowlands is near the Barras in Glasgow which makes it a little bit further to get to than some of the other venues within the city center. It is a much bigger venue than King Tut's although the crowd is totally different here. There is usually the people here that like to throw half full pint cups into the crowd, so you have to been on your guard that you don't smacked in the head with one. They have a coatroom to check any items which is about Â£1 per item so that's pretty reasonable. Since the venue is bigger you have a much better chance if you are shorter that a tall person will stand in front of you and it will be hard to see. I usually stand farther to the back or side in order to see the band and avoid any flying pints. This venue is one of Glasgow's star attractions for the music lover. Unfortunately it seems to be one of the least used, as well! Bigger bands take to the SECC and smaller ones to venues like the Cathouse, but the ABC is definitely THE place for any bands in the middle. As another review mentions, the sound quality is really fantastic, unlike other venues in Glasgow. You can't fault the acoustics at all, I was actually very surprised when I first visisted. The place is always relatively busy when something good's on, and the crowds seem friendly enough. The city centre location is also perfect for anyone who travels in from around Glasgow or its various outlying villages. If you fancy yourself as a bit of an actor, you can't do better than join up with the Strathclyde Theatre Group which is based at this church-turned-theatre. Several well-known performers started out here, for instance Henry Ian Cusick, the handsome Scottish guy who plays Desmond in Lost. The best thing to do is first attend a couple of their productions to get a feel for it, at the time of writing they are about to stage One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest in October 2008 (they also have some music events and visiting theatre companies). Then sign up to their extremely well-regarded drama courses. Glasgow just would not be the same without the GFT, it is quite simply an institution and one of the coolest places to hang out in the city. Arthouse films - they have them. Subtitled films - they do them. Old classics which have been reissued - this is the place. Also, a lovely small bar (wish there were more seats though) and programmes which are a delight to read. I've seen everything from Cinema Paradiso to Withnail and I to Amelie here. Also some stinkers, mind you, like Heartbeat Detector recently. Well I suppose this review is a waste of time, considering the place is closed now, but it was good while it lasted. Usually wen't there to avoid the queues at the UGC, and the odean has cheaper prices for students and adults, so another plus point. Also the food is more reasonably priced, but its still way to expensive for my liking. No idea what they are replacing it with, but I always liked going there. Theres one at the glasgow quay thats still open, so if you still like going to an odeon theres that option. Tickets Scotland is the place to go for tickets for any events going on in Glasgow or other places throughout Scotland. Whether it be for events at the Arches, gig tickets or whatever takes your fancy, tickets scotland should be your first port of call.

The staff themselves are friendly and cooperative, and there is a range of advertisements for events, gigs and tours in the office. In a slightly dangy location, it is perhaps not best situated, but all but the location is sound. Being in the middle of Glasgow near Central Station, it is at least easy to get to and thus you do not need to take much time out of your day to purchase tickets or browse the list of events. Recommended for ticket buying of all sorts.Tickets Scotland is the place to go for tickets for any events going on in Glasgow or other places throughout Scotland. A wide variety of events can take place here, from music concerts, gigs, functions and coventions. With easy access to transport and situated in the middle of Glasgow, there is no problem with getting to and from the convention centre. However, particularly as a musical 'hub', it in my opinion is subadequate. Last time I went to a gig at the SECC was a year ago and to my knowledge, nothing has changed.

However, the sound is invariably echoey, and bands aren't given a good chance to perform and show the countless masses the main arena can hold how good their music is. In the past, there have been measures implimented to boycott the SECC as a musical function hall and in my opinion, that isn't without reason. However, it is perhaps Glasgow's biggest and best arena for other events, such as funtions and so on.
