Banna Tyne's - The best I've found.......... by bathgatebuyer

For my £55 a month membership, I get to use this gym on Queen Street (which is close to my work) as well as the larger facility in Newcraighall (which is much handier for home!).

Like most city centre clubs, this gym is very busy around 6pm or thereabouts as office staff complete a quick workout before heading home. By all accounts, there is a nice swimming pool in here, but I've never used it. I stick mostly to the gym, and there is enough in here to get a real benefit from an hour or so in here over lunchtime.

The larger gym at Newcraighall is my main gym and this has a great range of classes to suit just about everyone. Again, it has a great pool, steam room and sauna, although most of my time is in the main gym. There is about 50 pieces of CV equipment including treadmills, elliptical trainers, rowers, bikes, etc, plus a wide range of weights machines and free weights.

Staff are also very friendly - if a bit ever changing - and I've found it a really friendly atmosphere within which to train.

Of the gyms I have tried in Edinburgh, I find those which are part of the Bannatyne's chain to be the best by far.
Oriental Medical Centre - Excellent!!! by Mr_D

Review by Mr_D

Rating: 5.00
Phone: 0131 553 4422

Tags: massage, alternative medicine
After years of suffering back & neck problems and severe headaches as a result of an injury I had at a young age, I have tried several different types of treatments from various sources over the years - including physiotherapy, prescription medication, specialist consultants, alternative therapies etc.
None of them really helped with my ongoing problems.

I had heard about acupuncture & Chinese medicine and although sceptical, I decided to give it a go. I looked online - lots of acupuncturists were available and I decided to try the practitioners that appeared to be the most popular & credited.
After several acupuncture sessions & lots of dosages of herbal infusions - all at an expense of course - I thought I was getting better. However, after a period of time the problems gradually came back. I decided to try different practitioners but eventually, I was back at square one.

Thus, I decided that this 'holistic' approach was not for me.

A friend then recommended Chen of the Oriental Medical Centre, assuring me that his approach was completely different. I was very reluctant to go, especially as I had spent a lot of money on previous treatments and at that point, felt disillusioned with the industry.
After several chats with my friend I decided that I had nothing to lose and as a last resort, I made an appointment to see Chen.
He was very approachable and made me feel very welcome in his clinic. I explained to him that I had had several treatments before but that they hadn't worked, and my only reason for being there was purely through the recommendation of a friend.
Not put off by my synicism, Chen worked out a plan for me spanning over a set period of time.
Using a combination of acupuncture, specialist massage techniques and Chinese herbs, I started to feel the results of Chen's work very quickly and within less than two weeks of my treatment, my headaches disappeared and the persistant neck & back pain I had endured for years, was almost gone.

At the end of the treatment period, I literally felt like a new person - I was, and still am, absolutely amazed at what this man has done for me and my health.
With regards to the acupuncture treatments alone, they were most notably different and more powerful in comparison to the ones I had received on previous occasions.
On reflection, he used techniques with the needles I had never before seen or experienced, techniques that I did not know existed or were even practised.

On that note, it is worth mentioning that the whole treatment process was not only a healing experience, but an educational one too.
He enlightened me as to what Chinese medicine really is (and just as importantly, what it isn't) therefore teaching me the true value of this anceint & cultural practice.
I have recommended Chen to family, friends & colleagues and I continue to see him myself for treatments now & again.

An ethical and principled individual that is genuinely interested in helping his patients, I have nothing but a debt of gratitude and respect to this gentleman who's treatment is, in my opinion, of the highest quality and distinction, the treatment of which is worth every penny you invest.
My only regret is that I didn't come across Chen first.

Without hesitation, I would highly recommend Chen to anyone - you will not be disappointed.

Thank you Chen.
