Castle Museum - kids liked it by blob

Visited the castle this summer and the kids enjoyed the day. There was a clay making work shop to coinside with the mini terracotta army and they really had a great time. The special display of small terracotta figures was wonderful, the mini horses were lovely, it was all very interesting and worth a look. The museum itself has improved a lot. If you collect the walkers brit trip points you can use 5 points to get a buy one get one free entrance until the end of the year. I will go back next year, it is good to support your local museum and the kids can go play in the park after your visit as it is in the castle grounds.Visited the castle this summer and the kids enjoyed the day. The Holly trees museum is a free museum next to colchester castle. It is within the grounds of colchester castle park. There is a section for kids which displays kids toys etc from the past and lots of other historic stuff like clothing, art work, portraits and things used in days gone by. It is an interesting after noon out and as it is free entry you can combine it with other things. The large dolls house on display downstairs is great and you can have your photo taken against the old fashioned portrait wall which kids will love. Rating: 1.00The clock museum is in one of the side streets in colchester town centre and if you missed it it would not break your heart. We went to see it and it was tiny, only a couple of rooms in an old house really. some of the clocks were beautiful but most were a bit dull looking . Maybe they are important for their working parts but the out sides of most of the clocks on display are plain. It is free to get in though but does have some funny opening times. The staff seemed friendly enough too. Would we go again well may be if we get really really bored or its raining. The castle is better so is the holly trees museum in the house next to the castle. Rating: 2.00The minories is situated on the towns high street right down at the end of the road. It has a free entry policy so if the weather is bad or you are bored it is an ok place to go and get in touch with your artistic self. The best thing a few years back was a display or should I say installation, consisting of lots and lots of potatoes, positioned on the floor, think they were supposed to represent people, but any how I thought it was great. You wont get to see them now though they were made in to chips a long time ago. The shop contains a vast selection of books, fiction and non fiction although this waterstones tends to contain a larger non fiction selection. The second waterstones in colchester is literaly 50m away via the rear exit and contains a larger fiction selection. between the two shops you can find pretty much any book you're looking for and if they havent got it they will order it for you.
