This place is great if you are looking to order an Indian delivery as this is a take away and not a restaurant. The food is 'proper Indian food' and is very reasonably priced. The chef is always happy to cook the food to suit your taste. I would recommend this place to people who like good Indian food, I have personally eaten at most of the over priced Indian restaurants in Cambridge and would rate this place as being the best if you want to enjoy your meal without an upset stomach afterward.....You cant expect great service from this place but if your main priority is quality of food when choosing a place to eat, then you wont be disappointed here!This place is great if you are looking to order an Indian delivery as this is a take away and not a restaurant. The Mermaid is one place for which the rest of us in Cambridge have to envy Chesterton-ites. It's a plain-looking takeaway but the chef is formerly of The Dorchester Hotel, apparently, and it shows in the quality of the food. I have been to Five Star hundreds of times as I think it is one of the best takeaways in Cambridge. All the food is reasonably priced, the staff are polite and chatty and you can see where they prepare a lot of the food so you can see that the staff are sticking to the proper food hygiene regulations which is reassuring.

There is a large selection of food to choose from, not your standard fish, chips and burgers fare which makes a refreshing change.
Personally, no matter what I order, I always go for a portion of spicy potatoes with whatever I am having - they are absolutely gorgeous and I can never find spicy potatoes to match themn at any other takeaway I have been to.

Dominos do fantastic deals and even if you don't take up one of their deals, individual items are reasonably priced.

The problem I have with dominos is that if you order a vegeable based pizza, they really outdo themselves with the toppings but if you order a meat based one they are really stingy with how much they put on. I often end up with an overcooked pizza if I order in so I prefer to go to the outlet and collect it myself so at least I can check it and send it back there and then.

The drinks are well priced but the desserts leave a lot to be desired - I ordered a slice of cheesecake but got some bit of half frozen rubbish in a circular pot, definitely not what I expected.

Jack's recently changed hands and has now reopened as part of the chain Deep Blue which has five branches locally. It still offers great quality fish and chips, served in cute and eco-friendly cardboard boxes which I welcome as it makes for less polystyrene debris blowing around Cherry Hinton Road! The fish and chips is still of the high quality that Jack's used to serve, and there is usually a queue snaking out onto the pavement. If you are hoping for chips after a drink at The Rock next door, be quick as Deep Blue closes at 11pm! This popular takeaway offers Chinese food of a consistently high standard. There is a wide choice of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes and a special lunchtime menu. Food orders arrive promptly and the staff are always pleasant and helpful (my daughter always volunteers to accompany me as she might be lucky enough to be given a lollipop!). The spring rolls and prawn toast are crisp, not greasy and heavy as sometimes encountered. Dishes are generous and the vegetables are full of flavour and colour - peppers and baby corn always taste crisp and fresh, unlike inferior places who pad out dishes with copious onion to save money.The chicken curry is a special family favourite, and the prawn dishes are always fresh and delicious. This is a well-run takeaway and the pick of the bunch amongst the cluster of takeaways on Cherry Hinton Road. They offer a delivery service, but to be honest it's quicker to just pop along to collect, as the service is very efficient. There's a great range of meat and vegetarian dishes including my favourite chicken saag - not to be confused with the chicken saagwallah on the specials section of the menu, which is loaded with chillis and makes for rather a nasty surprise! The portion sizes are huge - the biryiani can barely fit on a plate - so do consider sharing or just be very, very hungry! This McDonalds is just off the market place, so slap bang in the middle of town with a captive audience of tourists, shoppers, and mothers using it as a bribe to get the kids to behave whilst trawling round town. It's quite spacious wih an upstairs and a comical mock Roman (?) theme - crumpbling pillars of some style, anyway. Food-wise, well it's pretty much the same as any other MaccyD's. However, what really sets this apart from the rest is its foul facilities. Last year I took the kids and ended up emailing McD's to complain - taps not working, no paper, no locks on doors. Last week I ventured in again with kids... and of course they needed the loo - locks still broken but tap had been fixed so we could actually wash hands. However, bad luck for the chaps - the gents was closed altogether.
