Morrisons - Good supermarket, terrible in-store cafe by kspence

Please note that the following review is only for the cafe at the Morrisonâ¬"s in Cribbs Causeway, and not for the store itself, which is fine. I particularly recommend the fish counter and the good range of hot pies thatâ¬"re available there.

Morrison's cafe usually does an excellent range of all-day cooked breakfasts (till 4.30pm, at least), also serviceable canteen-style lunches (fish and chips, sausage and chips, fish or beef and ale pies etc.) or just for a snack, cakes and individual portion biscuits and hot and cold drinks. Usually a good bet, Iâ¬"d say, except in this case. I went there yesterday and it was shockingly bad. There is a sign in the cafÃ© saying something along the lines of - â¬Üplease bear with us during our refurbishmentâ¬" but there was no sign of refurbishing, and what was wrong with the place had nothing to do with any building work. There were abundant staff in the cafÃ©, but few if any of them seemed to have much idea what they were doing; many appeared to be wandering aimlessly and the majority looked terribly out of their depth. The worst thing was the food, however. My fried egg was cooked in stale to rancid oil, and had a horrible acrid aftertaste. The coffee wasnâ¬"t coffee â¬ it was basically brown, lukewarm water with barely a hint of flavour. I complained and they let my try a different nozzle from the automatic hot drink dispenser but no; it was all like that. I wouldâ¬"ve complained further but the queues were gigantic, the staff looked like they had enough to deal with, and the customer service desk was temporarily unattended. The one star Iâ¬"ve given it stands for â¬Üappallingâ¬". I have been to other Morrisonâ¬"s cafes and they are definitely not all as bad as this.

Bradley Stoke finally has the town centre it's been craving for since the town was built. Tesco has just built a new Tesco Extra on the site of its old, tired looking store, and the replacement sells practically everything in a new modern mini-mall.

The store has a great range of food (as you'd expect) as well as clothes, toys, a pharmacy, and electrical goods. No need to venture down to Cribbs Causeway any more, as you can get everything here.

The new bus station has improved the transport links, and with the other new shops, the leisure centre and the library all a 5 minute walk away, this will hopefully put a real heart in the centre of Bradley Stoke.Bradley Stoke finally has the town centre it's been craving for since the town was built. This Aldi is new, with a really fresh feel about it. The shop is a reasonable size, and stock a good range of everyday food, as well as the featured (non-perishable) products of the week. So if you've got a flyer through the door with something that you want, make sure you get to the store to pick it up when it says it's in stock, as it won't be there for long. If it's a great product at a bargain price, make sure you get in quickly, as they do sell out of popular stuff.

Parking is not problem, as there's a big enough car park.

Things to remember when you shop at Aldi:
- Bring Â£1 for the shopping trolley
- Bring your own bags (as you have to pay for them)
- Pay in cash or by debit card, as there are charges for credit cards.

This is a fantastic little Tesco Express that stocks all those the essential things you need on a regular basis, that you run out of. It's also got a good selection of papers and magazines. The store also has a Post Office inside, which is very useful.

The store is always busy, but they keep enough staff on to keep queues to a minimum. However, the big problem is the parking. There are only about 20 spaces outside, and these serve the local bank, hairdresser and pizza take-away, so it's impossible to park even at less busy times. Deliveries to the store are also done from the car park, which blocks up the entry to the car park!

There are spaces on the street, but these get taken too. This used to be Asda's biggest store in the UK (may not be the case now), so it has everything in it. An extensive range of George clothes, Photo centre, Toys, CDs, Electronics, Home furnishings, Car stuff, gardening, video games, pharmacy as well as all the usual food stuff on a massive scale. So you should find what you need here, all at the usual low Asda price.

The only down side is its size - be prepared for a long walk while you do your shopping! So it's not really suitable if you want to do a quick shop, and if you're not familiar with the layout of the store, you can spend forever trying to find the one thing you want.

These are possibly the best cookies ever, but of course the price reflects that (especially if you don't want to buy many).
They're very good for bargaining co-operativeness from my children whilst shopping, especially the 'lollipop' - cookies on a stick. I believe that they've recently added a double chocolate cookiepop to their range (my daughter's favourite!).
They also sell smoothies & ice cream, as well as a range of drinks. Very large, personalised cookies can be purchased for special occasions & customised to your requirements by the staff, who I have generally found to be friendly & helpful.
A yummy product, but overpriced presumably because the company is aware of its popularity.

There's alot of facilities available in this fairly new Tesco. A medium sized Petrol station is situated next door to the store, whilst the shop itself has a large car park so parking is not an issue.

Next to the car park is a park with playing fields which should ensure the kids are entertained if they take a visit there.

The shop itself is on 1 floor and is quite large, with a restaurant on the right hand side as you enter the shop, with a newsagent kiosk just in front.

Contained within the store you will find a bakery just up fron the restaurant, which offers freshly baked bread, baguettes, cakes and other delicacies.

There's a good range of fruit and veg and the usual foodstuffs, plus they offer a good range of baby care products and other toiletries. THere are some other household items available for purchase and seaosnal stock, so there is a good enough range that you probably won't need to go to a larger supermarket to top up.

The one downside that we found was the milk. Why? Well I naturally thought it would be with the chilled dairy products (cheese, yoghurts etc) but it wasn't. It was located at the back of the store with a sign above it that you could only really see if you were just by it, so we had to ask for the milk.

There are a good number of tills and queuing times are not bad, I would say 5 minutes maximum but shouldn't take long. There are also approx 8 self-service tills which might appeal.

Tesco Metro are the smaller versions of the Tesco Supermarket, acting as more of a convenience store. This Tesco Metro is located in Broadmead (centre of Bristol) and predominantly serves Bristol's workforce and visitors.

As you can imagine, Bristol is very busy with workers and visitors ensuring the footfall in Tesco is likewise as busy. At peak times (lunchtime etc) this means that you can be waiting to be served for up to 5 minutes, maybe longer in some cases. There are approximately 10 tills and as I can recall, some self-service tills to boot.

There is a good array of refreshments such as an in-store bakery (doughnuts, cakes etc) - these are good of course for any mass cake purchases for the office etc) and also a decent variety of snacks for lunch, such as Pasta pots, sandwiches, healthy options - even Sushi makes it into the chiller!

If you are looking for a general shop then you'll be pleased to know that all the usual favourites are available from cereals to drinks, fruit to veg, cooking sauces to chocolate and sweets etc.

Whilst metro's are a tad more pricey than the Supermarkets, it's location is right in the middle of town so within easy reach of most central Bristol workers.

Split tin is an awesome bakery - def the best in Bristol. As they make all of their produce fresh, and because they are so popuar - tis true that they sometimes close early because they have sold-out. I would recommend their criss-cross white loaf and cheesey rolls; also the baker apparently has an allotment where he grows veg and sells outside of the shop - they are the best runner beans I've ever tasted!

Finally, I've had a couple of birthday cakes made by the bakery, and they were very very tasty and lasted well for a weekSplit tin is an awesome bakery - def the best in Bristol. This one we came for our treat to my little girls Birth day and we were not disappointed. The food is standard for a very convenient dinner out. The usual fish and chips, fast food vita a bit of vegetable. The service was ok the personal was very busy and willing to attend to your needs. the surrounding was very pleasant and the children could just wander around before their dinner was served. The bill was not very bight therefore we quite liked this restaurant. Rating: 4.00A reasonably standard KFC, but it's relatively new, so it's clean and fresh. The food is the usual KFC stuff - which the kids love. But even if they don't, there's a burger king right next door, so you'll be able to keep everyone happy.

There's a drive through for those in a hurry, and it's ideally located for a quick meal on the way to the movies (Vue cinema is next door too) or for a bite to eat before heading home.

It's also reasonably close to the Mall at Cribbs Causeway, so as there's no KFC in that food court, you can walk to KFC (about 10 min walk) - but drive if it's raining.A reasonably standard KFC, but it's relatively new, so it's clean and fresh. Tesco do offer good prices and the clubcard points you can receive are an excellent way of getting money off of your shopping or better still, using clubcard deals to get free tickets for days out.

The food quality is good, but the last couple of times i've been to this store I have found that the fruit and veg has been a bit limited - they've tended to run out of stock on carrots and the like.

This venue really could do with a petrol forecourt to compete with Asda Walmart just a few miles up the road as we would certainly have reason to visit there more.

Good ambience though and ample parking in a nice setting.Tesco do offer good prices and the clubcard points you can receive are an excellent way of getting money off of your shopping or better still, using clubcard deals to get free tickets for days out.

The main plus of this Budgens store is the location, bang right in the middle of the centre of the city, close to many office blocks & complexes. The store itself is fairly run-down & in need of updating, but it offers the usual selection of products, a newsagents, fruit & veg, refrigerated & tinned produce, sells stamps, lottery cards etc. I use it mainly to buy my daily newspaper & at lunch to pick up an occasional pre-packed sandwich, drink or magazine. It is usually very busy during the peak lunch-hours, when everyone is doing the same. Costcutter on Coldharbour Road in Redland is a little local mini-market offering a small range of grocery products including magazine & newspapers to the local residential area. You wonâ¬"t be able to rely on it to do your weekly shopping (the nearest supermarket is the John Lewis Partnershipâ¬"s Waitrose which is a short walk away), but for everyday essentials it is ideal & in a good location. Sainsburys in Clifton Down Shopping Centre is the main supermarket in the area & offers the usual wide range of supermarket products. It appears to be catered towards the student & young professionals market with one of the best deli counters, & a fantastic salad bar. It has the usual supermarket deals, & is the largest store in the Clifton area. Parking is available around the back, & if you spend in Sainsburys it is free. Anyone that is a fan of the BBC show Casualty will be able to spot many cast members shopping in here â¬ I see someone on almost every visit !Sainsburys in Clifton Down Shopping Centre is the main supermarket in the area & offers the usual wide range of supermarket products. This Tesco Metro is a relatively new addition to Whiteladies Road. It is situated directly opposite the auction rooms & the Britannia bank. It was previously a general purpose Spar-type shop, until Tesco took it over. It offers the usual range of Tesco products, although at a few pence above the big supermarket prices. For anyone living nearby it must be ideal, as it saves having to travel to a big supermarket, as you can find most items here, including a bakery section where you can buy freshly-baked bread. When Wallmart took over Asda I was hoping (and praying!!) that at last we would have a super cheap major supermarket in the UK just like Wallmart is in the USA.

But alas we live on treasure island (most call it the UK) where prices are always high.

But that said, Asda do still have some pretty good prices on the items they sell, particularly on some of their own brand items.

You often see the Asda averts on the TV quoting how many more prices they have lowered in comparison to Tesco and Morrison. And in my opinion those claims seem to ring true.

This is one of the larger stores of the chain so is fully featured inside with a pharmacy, photographic section, home electrical department and clothing areas.

Looking at their fresh items (fruit, veg and meat) the quality always seems to be good and in my opinion arguably better than their main rivals.

Rating: 4.00This is a takeaway only (no restaurant), slightly out of the way (unless you live in Stoke Gifford...), but worth the 10 minute drive from ours (were you thinking of popping over?). Weâ¬"ve had a takeaway from here many times, and itâ¬"s always ready nice and quick, and they serve it in those plastic pots which are so handy to keep. The crispy seaweed is yummy and the chicken served is moist. The beef isnâ¬"t always as tender as Iâ¬"d like, and Iâ¬"ve had better crispy shredded beef elsewhere, but theyâ¬"re minor issues really (unless you only eat beef...).
Oh, and donâ¬"t forget your prawn crackers!
