I had great time there at Red snapper waterloo street on friday. We were in the room downstairs with big group of friends..Amazing foods(Red snapper and Seabass dishes) and the service was great by the young waitress(she was the only one who served the food at our floor..I think)..Really helpful and sweet!! What a shame. Thats right, it was a shame I did not find somewhere else to have lunch. Went to Brighton to photograph a Rugby Match and had a couple of hours to spare so went to Devils Dyke and photographed the Hang Gliders/Para Gliders etc. Great fun. I wanted a spot of lunch so tried the Devils Dyke Pub, as that is where I was. Lots of customers, obviously popular. Had to order at the bar and there was about a five minute wait before I could get a drink or order my meal. The pub was busy and I was on my own and there was not tables I could see near to the bar. I was very upset when they said I need a table number before I could order. I forced the issue and they took my order and gave me a numbered spoon why I tried to find somewhere to sit. I eventually sat down down, by which time the queue for the bar was about 25 people most ordering food and was taking about 20 minutes to place your food or drink order. Not good. I ordered Smoked Haddock in a creamy cheese sauce on Cheese Mash Potato with a poached egg on top. All pretty standard but fine for lunch.
The food came out about 25 minutes later, and was hot. What I first noticed was the smoked haddock was the size of a fish finger and the skinny tail end at that. It was dried out and hard around the edges. The mash was OK, but only when I was eating it, still amazed at the poor quality of the fish, did I realise their was no poached egg.
No waitresses to be seen. I fancied another drink with the meal, but the only way to order one was to join the 20 minute queue for the bar. I decided to cut my losses and eat and leave. As I left I did decide to interupt the bar staff who were busy taking orders. I pointed out my dissatisfaction and they were not really interested. I left never to return to eat. Sandwiches and Burgers looked OK coming out, but this I am afraid is probably their limit.

Rats in the kitchen and cockroaches a plenty crawling the walls, ive seen the cockroaches. someone i know did the re decoration of this restaurant putting in all the seating areas etc.. and could not belive what they sore,
i visited this person one day and whilst i was talking to him i looked up and sore a great big cockroach crawling up the wall in the restaurant area. I have been to this restaurant a few times and my god the food is awful, I have also been to thailand many times and know how good the food can be.
We went there last night and today we all have really bad food poisioning, the pad thai tasted fishy and they have a serious problem with overdosing your food with chilli.
Also the staff are all smiley to your face but watch them walk off and look pissed at having to serve you.

The Melrose is more of a proper fish restaurant compared to its neighbour, the Regency, which is best described as a fancy fish and chip restaurant. I'm sure it's owned by the same people and probably shares the same kitchen.

The restaurant is clean but rather old fashioned circa 1970/80.

I was disappointed in my starter - the king prawns in garlic sauce. Being unpeeled it was a messy affair peeling them whilst covered in slimy sauce.

The only grumble with the mains was the chips - I expected a better quality chip.

Desserts were excellent.

Portions were very good for all courses and the prices very reasonable. Il Bistro claims to be the original bistro in the Lanes. It is, indeed, stuck in a timewarp, and not in a good way.

Food was overpriced and nasty, service was poor. Our first two waiters complained about the management â¬ obviously not a happy ship.

As we sat in the window and watched poor saps read the menu and decide whether or not to enter we realised that the people eating here were all tourists â¬ no locals. This is not a place people come back to for a second time.

The â¬Sfish soup laced with cream and brandyâ¬ showed no trace of the latter â¬ it was watery and insipid. What it did have was the telltale islands of scum and intense heat of soup that has been over-heated in a microwave.

The â¬Schefâ¬"s tartareâ¬ that came with fritto misto came out of the chefâ¬"s catering size jar â¬ cheap, vinegary and nasty.

Although the menu claims that the seafood was all local and freshly caught, frankly I donâ¬"t believe it. Freshly caught at Iceland maybe, but we donâ¬"t have many local, freshly caught king prawns, squid or sardines around Brighton.

The seafood casserole seemed to consist of the same watery fish soup and frozen seafood as the starters with a few potatoes lobbed in.

Grilled lemon sole was executed adequately, but not enough to redeem the rest of the menu.

Foolishly we chose a pinot grigio rose, which was undrinkable. I rarely leave wine, but I could not stomach this. I should have realised it would be bad when I saw that they have Blossom Hill wine on the list for Â£14. This is the same wine that my local convenience store sells at three for Â£10.

They did reduce our bill, taking off the cost of the inedible seafood casserole. If they hadnâ¬"t, this ripff would have cost us Â£60 plus tip for two courses and a bottle of wine, for two.

Donâ¬"t make the same mistake as us.

I went to this restaurant, well if only i could call it that with my family for an evening meal. The tables were dirty and had not looked like they had ever seen a cloth. The other problems i found with this restaurant was the service. The service was at a very poor rate as we ordered a steak and later recieved a chicken. This may have been due to the fact the waiter spoke very poor english, and was more interested to what was on the TV than taking our orders. Overall this was a horrible experince and will not be returning.I went to this restaurant, well if only i could call it that with my family for an evening meal. My SO and I went to Brighton for our anniversary weekend, eating here as a part of the whole blow out, and it set the weekend off a treat.

Confessions first: I'm not much of a restaurant person: I don't like eating in public or being waited on, and I will typically just sit there and pick at a small plate of something to 'show willing' (and don't worry, I hate me too having re-read that). One look at the menu when I sat down and I realised that that wasn't going to happen here. Hoisin tofu appetiser, Smoked Sakuri Soba starter and Jerusalem artichoke souffle main were all wolfed down in quick succession, and it was even me who suggested a dessert. If it wasn't for the fact that I was also busy working my way through some rather nice beers my SO might have thought she was having a meal with the wrong person.

What can I say? Food was superb, the service attentive, but not annoying and I managed to spend an evening in a restaurant without acting like an idiot. I love it, my wife love's it and my kids can't get enough of it ! Fast friendly service, and the quality of food is absolutely fantastic, I'm not sure how they do it for the price, as most of the dishes are under a fiver - AND THEY FILL YOU UP TOO :-).

A Tip : You can always tell when an oriental restaurant is good quality, when lots of the customers are oriental themselves, and this is certainly the case here :-)
Many great restaurants have fallen victim to the recent recession. At less than Â£5 per main dish, I don't think that will happen to Pompoko, thank god ;-).

I very much suspect that Zilr's recent bad review on the trusted places website is from a rival restaurant (not the first), or someone who is being wound up by their mates. If there was ever a case of food poisoning they would have investigated or shut the place down mate. Your talking tosh Zilr !

Possibly the WORST restaurant I have visited for cleanliness, food quality and taste and ambiance.

I recently took 15 friends to Brighton to celebrate my birthday. Finding an exciting place to eat for 15 is a bit of an issue especially on a bank holiday weekend.

I was recommended Momma Cherries by a friend who went a couple of years ago - and I remembered it from Gordon Ramseys and thought it had character.

On arrival it seemed fine until they ushered us to a 'party' room upstairs among other rooms filled with crap. A laminate birthday message was on the table, some dried out yukkas in the corner which were actually brown and an old hi fi with scratched cds playing.

I knew I should have run then but they had already taken my credit card details incase I cancelled and they said they would take Â£10 a head off it.

We went for the Â£13.95 a head course and the food that came out was soooo poor. Catfish which was soggy, pasta salads which blatantly had mayonnaise in. Cake???? for starters Rissotos with tiny shitty prawns, ribs covered in red slime and even the macaroni cheese was souless.

every time more food came out it was a disappointment. The cd kept sticking, the room smelt stale and fusty and the food was atrocious!!!

We got espresso and sambuccas at the end to try and console ourselves and the espresso was brought up in cappucino cups and was not short - it was really watery.

The bill came to over Â£400 and I complained about the coffees and Â£20 was knocked off.

Momma Cherrie was seen telling someone what to do on the stairs but didnt make an effort to come upstairs and query a complaint. She obviously wants to get money it the till and isnt cared about the service.

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING - should go back on Ramsey's ultimate nightmares - although I have the feeling that there is no hope for the quality of this restaurant to improve.

I've been on the search for a decent local Chinese takeaway for some time and of the ones I've tried so far, this one is winner.

We had a takeaway for 2 which we ordered in the restaurant and picked up only 10mins later. Although I was concerned how quickly it was prepared (and how empty the restaurant was), it was all really excellent.
The quarter duck was extremely generous and the meat was tender with lovely crispy bits. Enough for 3 to share as a starter (6 full pancakes worth). Both main dishes were delicious, black bean chicken and chicken and cashewnuts in yellowbean sauce. The chicken was nicely cooked with absolutely no 'icky' bits and there was plenty of it with a nice balance of meat to veg components such as carrot, peppers etc. The yellowbean sauce although sticky and thick wasn't too sweet and the blackbean sauce wasn't swimming in garlic (like it does at the Shanghai Garden takeaway on George Street).

One bad point, if you have any food allergies/intolerances don't trust them when they assure you that a dish doesn't contain something! We were told the blackbean chicken definitely did not contain onion and then it came full of it! :S

Still, would use again as the food was great.

EDIT: Ate in recently with family and 2 out of 5 dishes were a bit disappointing (I remember lemon chicken was one) and overall more expensive than it should've been. The decor could at least've been nice and the plates not chipped at that price! I'll still go there in the future but just to order takeaway, and only the dishes I know are good!

The decor could at least've been nice and the plates not chipped at that price! I'll still go there in the future but just to order takeaway, and only the dishes I know are good!

This was such a disappointment. I am surprised that the italian waiters/waitresses are not ashamed to serve such poor food as it was so far removed from any food you would associate with Italy! The pizza base was soggy and heavy, the carbonara was dolmio-style sauce and tasteless, no hint of the proper ingredients used, more like a jar of sloppy sauce, and the third pasta dish was tasteless AND the pasta was over-cooked. The toilets were seriously disgusting and although the waiters were good-looking, it doesn't make up for their fairly unenthusiastic attitude. A nice location for this chain Italian restaurant overlooking the Marina.

We were a large party of 11 and were served promptly, together and the food was piping hot. 2 for 1 on all main meals at the moment (we had printed out vouchers and the waitress said that they weren't needed, it's become a standard offer).

My calzone was very large (important!) and tasty.

There are a googolplex of other chain restaurants along the Marina which is a shame in a way, where's all the local stuff?

Ordered a take out from here recently, through Dinner 2 Go, and was pleasantly suprised by just how much food we recieved! The mixed mezze was great, shame the vine leaves were a little too squidgy for my liking. But generally everything else was of a pretty good standard. What a night we had 25 of us company dinner.
reaaly good food the fajitas the mole chimichangas we all tried eachothers food and we got extra salsa from the helpfull staff and to top it off..........Venganza de Monctezuma (i think thats how you spell it!) chilli chocolate fondant need I say any more.
They also have a cocktail bar Valentino upstairs with very impressive cocktails and 2 for 1 deals.
