I had breakfast at bills today (25th September 2009) and it was terrible!!! We were a party of 9 and we went for one of my colleagues leaving do. When we arrived we were greeted by an obnoxious moron who promised that he would â¬Stake care of usâ¬ while suggesting that we sit at different tables (not so great at a leaving do) and then just standing around and doing precisely nothing. When we were eventually seated I ordered the full English breakfast and was hugely disappointed to find my bacon burnt beyond recognition and the sausage charred on one side. The tomatoes tasted like they came from a can and after picking at what was edible I found a HAIR!!! I stopped eating and didnâ¬"t complain because I really didnâ¬"t want to upset the occasion. The staff were not bad really but the guy who seated us was an a**hole! The place is really rather agreeable, pretty to look at but Iâ¬"m afraid itâ¬"s a case of form over function and I will NEVER eat there again. Itâ¬"s packed to the rafters with young, urban, hip parents, the cool crowd and old folks but in a place like Brighton where there are hundreds of restaurants I will not put myself through that again. Extremely good alternativs for breakfast are Tallulahâ¬"s, Billyâ¬"s and endless little cafes in the lanes (Inside Out Cafe does the best kippers and poached eggs). I paid but refused to let them leave a tip for the rude service, hair and burnt food. Oh and it is a chain â¬ avoid if you can!!!!

I've eaten here a few times in the past but hadn't visited for about 18 months - until yesterday.

The cafe has a decent menu - service is prompt and friendly and the place is clean and bright. I like their omelettes which come with chips and fresh salad. They also have some nice cakes and pies for dessert at the counter.

Prices are reasonable - certainly not cheap but not OTT either.

Another regular lunchtime haunt of mine for eat in and takeaway. Decent range of wholesome pasties both meat and vegi. Good value for money.

There is a small eat in area which is comfortable.

I can highly recommend the Thai vegan pasty which is larger than the norm and very tasty.

The girls who run the place are always efficient and friendly.

I occasionally use Cocoa now for my lunch time snacks. Their bread and patisserie is very good - although not exactly cheap (they do fill the baguettes to the brim though!).

Service is always friendly.

The cafe is good - I have yet to try their savoury offerings.

On a recent day trip to Brighton my first priority was a visit to Choccywoccydoodah Bar du Chocolat. Hidden away on a back street, it was indeed worth seeking out. It has colourful, glamorous dÃ©cor, and serves up giant serves of chocolate cake, sundaes and other decadent treats. You can hire their "intimate boudoir" for a "extravagant chocolate feast", which sounds ideal for a girlie afternoon tea.

I was fairly restrained with my food choice, opting for a slice of Chocolate Truffle cake, which turned out to be massive, and was served with a big scoop of chocolate ice cream and chocolate sauce. Rating: 3.00It's a bit a trek down the harbour road and it's not really on the way to anywhere but the cafe is worth a visit though as it provides a decent brew and food selection at reasonable prices. There's seating inside and out.

Redroaster is the best coffee shop in Brighton with the nicest staff. The coffee is delicious, roasted on the premises and also available to buy ground or as beans to take home.
Every time I amble up St James Street with my take-out morning latte I feel like popping into the well known chain that has opened across the road and telling them to put down their warm milkshakes and head over to Redroaster to get a taste of what real coffee should be like.

I love this place. Set right in the north laines, Kensington's has a lovely little character.
Up a discrete set of stairs on kensington's garden's is this funny little place with its beasty fry ups and ENDLESS choice of jacket potatoes and sandwiches and salads. I usually end up, like many, gawping up at the boards for a good amount of time just trying to choose. Theres nothing fancy about the food but its good and sturdy grub which fills the hole well. Portions are really good considering price and location (especially on a hangover). However my reason for loving this place, is COMPLETELY for one of those nasty headached afternoons; being able to recover in the sun sitting out on the balcony with a friend of equal hanging, in our sunglasses, looking down at the crowds on the cobbles and winging and groaning over a good bacon and cheese sarnie and a big cuppa tea. This place leaves a lot to be desired. The food's awful, it all tastes like it's come from a packet and been microwaved. Largely enhanced by plates that are so hot you can't eat from them. The decor is pretty terrible and the staff are quite unfriendly. I wouldn't recommend the place, thankfully I didn't get sick, although that would have been the icing on a very bad cake!This place leaves a lot to be desired. A traditional, greasy spoon cafe - one of the best in Brighton.

This is in stumbling distance of my abode so has come in very handy on those late, hungover mornings after a late night.

Tea - good, BIG fried breakfast - good, Slush Puppies for the dehydrated - GOOD. A perfectly sluttish breakfast.

I love this place so much! It's the only place I frequent for lunch during the working week that I've never been disappointed by.

The pasta dishes are tasty and beautifully made. The staff are just the friendliest, most accommodating people you could hope to meet during a rushed lunch hour and you can pick up bits and pieces to cook with at home from their extensive selection of dried pasta, sauces, olive oils etc.

I thought I'd died and gone to heaven when, during a late morning, hungover, shuffle across the south downs at the Beachdown Festival last summer, I spied their stall serving the same delicious pasta dishes!

Forget the second rate sandwich places and the junk food pitstops, this place will make lunch go with a swing and lots of 'mmm' noises. Who could ask for more?

This really is a great example of a hidden Brighton gem. This is a family run business - a cafe attached to a record store. The cafe is themed with a 50s feel - car booths, formica tables, kitcsh (but original) cafe accessorise, and music memorobilia adorning the walls.

The food is great cafe food. The family are friendly, warm and good fun. The prices are good value.

I love this place.

It's just off the main drag of the North Laine, so you may have to hunt it out, but it's worth it! Oh, and delicious pink lemonade and shakes. Very friendly and pleasant staff, good place to people watch and enjoy a decent cappuccino, millions of times better than the nearby Starbucks !
Reasonably priced and generous portions of food with home-made goulash, salads, omelettes and jacket potatoes etc.
