The Earth & Stars Pub is tucked away just off Queens Road in Brighton - I used to always have some difficulty locating it when totally sober! I really like going for a pint at this pub because they have a great menu that's good value - good quality, freshly made, home-made tasting pub grub like doorstopper sandwiches and chips and burgers! This pub is popular with all sorts: students, people after work, locals and old men lol. This is a lovely little bar in the heart of the North Laines. The decor is cool and funky, it even has a swing that you can sit and have you drinks at- one of the main reasons why i go there early to make sure i get that table. For special events you can reserve booths and tables there as well which is handy. The bar isn't big its more long and thin and on a busy friday and saturday nights it gets very cramp and tables are like gold dust.
The staff and polite and well manners and the DJs are good creating a up beat bar atmosphere. The prices are reasonable and there is a good selection of spirits and bottles. Ready yourself, this is a pub, but like no other. Being Brighton and that's all about being trendy and unexpected The George is a vegetarian pub. Now do not be put off by this unexpected twist in the tale, there's a really 'meaty' (even by vegetarian standards) menu to get your chops round and great selection of beers and wine!

This place is well known by the locals and fills up fast! Best time for a sitting is a lazy sunday when you can bask in the mostly ye olde wood bar surrounds and enjoy a Big George feast. My favourite was always the famed George salad, again 'salad' may sound dull dull dull, but this is BIG George with pine nuts, avocado, the famed vegetarian sausages, fresh leaves, spinach, sun dried tomoatoes and a springkling of seeds. And all for Â£6.25!

Incidently the wine is vegetarian too, so you can quaff guilt free, well aside from the potential impact on your liver...But at least no animals were harmed in its production and its got to be healthier too!

A note on Sundays: The roasts are huge so go empty, and do get there early to nab a table as people queue to be here! Food is sold until it sells out. Which is quick! Roasts are come with all the usual accompanyments and trimmings. AND with a crumble/strudle for dessert!

So this is how The George has gained in popularlity; you wont leave empty! Prepare to roll homewards, content and ever so slightly smug... Oh and Al Murry pops in every now and then too! I'm not from Brighton so had to do a little research to find places to go with the group I was with (mixed 22-30). I wouldn't say that I'm an cocktail aficionado but I'm working on it and the niche definitely helped. Their adventurous menu is backed up by their perfect classics- I drank too many traditional daiquiris and they were the best I've had. Although discreetly located under a boutique hotel, the bar is worth the effort of looking. Fab palm wallpaper and a black glass bar top to die for complete a scarface style glamour. Also, for smokers, there is an enchanting (and conveniently wind-free)courtyard garden. Staff were knowledgeable and friendly and guided us through some of the more obscure cocktails, offering tasting and info on spirits we'd never tried.

I'm lucky that this pub is so close to my work - I think it has the best pub food I've ever had!

The menus are well-written and amusing - prepared fresh every morning depending on what's on. The staff are very friendly, always happy and happy to help. Great music selections too!

There is a wide range of food - including good choices for vegetarians.

Some of the dishes I've had:
* Pan-fried seabass with new potatoes and samphire
* Portabello mushroom burger
* Roasted sweet potato with roasted vegetables and goats cheese
* Welsh Rarebit
* Bangers and mash (there are veggie varieties available too)
* Fish pie

You can't beat it!

this pub has just got new management as of March 2008, and I spoke to the landlord the other day who said that he was aiming to seriously improve the food. Don't go here! We had a very bad experience where we'd gone on a huge night out and must have spend at least â¤600-700 on cocktails between us all. The waiter didn't leave any snacks on our table so a work collegue picked some up on a table nearby, as we didn't have any(they were free on every other table). The waiter came over and asked he to put them back and don't steal!!! Er, how come we'd just spent so much money in there and we weren't allowed any?! All the other tables were pretty much empty of people by the way, we were the only group really keeping them afloat that night! He was a right bully. We won't go there again and I'd advise you to do the same. You can get better service ANYWHERE ELSE in Brighton.Don't go here! one of the worst atmospheres I've ever encountered in a pub. terribly expensive food and drink, poor beers on offer and very sad looking staff.

This was one of the nicest places to go in summer for a bar lunch. Good home cooked food - burgers were a must. Sandwiches delicious but Unfortunately going a bit downhill. Good food - but you better not be in a hurry.

Strada does good, straightforward Italian food, just not very quickly. If you're there for lunch on a work day it can be irritatingly slow.

I've been using this pub since 2000 and it is simply one of the best in Brighton (if you like your pubs traditional yet hip, quiet yet lively, cheap yet full of quality).

One of the key indicators is the fact that many of the staff, while fairly young, have been there for that whole period.

The place is jukebox and fruit-machine-free with just low-key, eclectic music and a constant buzz of conversation and laughter. The menu is well-priced, well (and freshly) cooked and, again, has rarely changed in all the time I've known the place.

This is a nice pub, as long as you don't go there on the evening when they have food special - steak, chips and a pint for a Â£5 (might be a bit more now) or when they are showing football or rugby on the two large plasma TV's. A nice, traditional feeling pub and there's not many of those left in Brighton. There are three bar areas, a small lounge which feels like a living room. A long narrow bar with a dartboard and, at the back a bigger room with TV and pool table. It's like two pubs in one really.
