He had two different types of bath: one with piped fresh water, and one with piped sea water!!

This palace is absolutely stunning and beautifully restored. You can look round the whole place in about an hour (for a palace it is petite) and it's a lot of fun. Audio guides with fascinating facts and figures (as above!) are included in the entry price.

Shame you can't take photos though, although one of my group managed to sneak a quicky on her mobile.

Highlight has to be the marvellous domed ballroom. I think it looks like something from a set of an early Flash Gordon film (think of Ming the Merciless). There are gold leafed dragons twining around every cornice and feature with giant red lanterns as the centrepiece.

Frankie

www.meetup.com/LondonEscapes

the friendly walking club with an arty touch

see photos of the Brighton trip here http://www.meetup.com/LondonEscapes/photos/665684/#9788385Prince Regent must have been an early innovator, as apparently there were something like 30 ensuite 'washrooms' at The Royal Pavilion, his lavish outre palace in Brighton. The night time view is good too, with all those pulsating, flashing white lights , it is a beacon in the darkness.
On a hot evening nothing compares to a stroll on the pier, on a brisk night its just as good if you are well wrapped up in a warm coat.
We walked one evening and saw a bunch of divers in the sea next to the pier, they must have been with a club or something and they all had lights with them, it looked such fun. That sums up the pier really, its fun.
The doctor who exhibition which was on the pier a good few years back was great, the trinny and suzannah bots were there along with other doctor who things. The huge congar eels were amazing and hardly moved, so we thought they were dead at first. The sea horses were a delight and so tiny and beautiful to see. There is a tunnel you can walk under and a turtle in the massive water pool. But and there is a but, it is just not a whole day out and so there fore not worth the £12 entrance fee for adults and around £8 for your kids. They really should consider this as if they do some locals would be more inclined to revisit if this was the case.Having seen the sea life centre i can say I was glad to have seen it, but would not go again as it is a bit over priced and not enough to see to warrant paying to get in twice. Its been around a longtime and over the years there have been several changes to the route and length of the railway. Its been extended westwards from the Aquarium to the old Chain Pier, then later on the line was extended from the Chain Pier to the Banjo Groyne. In 1901 the line was extended beyond the Banjo Groyne to the Black rock. You can buy a family saver ticket which is valid for 2 adults and up to 3 children or 1 adult and up to 4 children between the Aquarium & Black Rock (for Marina) for £3.50 single / £6.00 return which is not bad and kids do love it. The trains operate weekdays from 10am to 5pm, and until 6pm on weekends and bank holidays, in the summer. Not quite sure the exact times you would need to check those out.

Well Its a little train line, an electric one, that runs along the sea front. The place really does feel temporary from its metal open top stands (only one stand has a roof) , an away stand which seems so far away that it looks as if you cant see anything and the fact that all the seats are green (not blue and white)

The seagulls deserve more than a council owned stadium like this which has been their home ever since the goldstone (which was knocked down to form goldstone retail park which includes such shops as JJB and Toys'r'us) and with falmer on the way , i cant wait to see what this championship-bound club can do

Initially built as an athletics track and stadium , withdean is currently the home of brighton and hove football club and has been for many years .
