This must be the best service you'll get from a sandwich shop in Birmingham City Centre.

The staff are always friendly and helpful. They greet you like they're happy to be there, are enjoying their job, and as though you are a valued customer.

The food is always great, and the coffee is quite literally the best I've come across. Better than any of the major chains.

This place is situated about 2 min walk from the flat I used to live (I moved out 3 days ago) and decided to give it a go after having read two opposite reviews of King_Pin and nuke.

They offer usual Asian kebabs and deep fried snacks as well as various balti/curry dishes. The curry menu is impressively long and one item costs around a fiver. Together with rice (£1.50), it is not particularly cheap. I did not see these curries, but I observed some veggie ones in show case: some of them were starting to be dry and in room temperature showcase, I worried about the hygiene standard as well (but, to be fair, they have respectable 3 H points according to the Scores on the Doors scheme http://www.scoresonthedoors.org.uk ).

We ordered two chicken tikka on naan (£3), one portion of chips and 2 cokes. The meat is not cooked to order, and on receiving the order, the smiley guy behind the counter picked up several already cooked pieces of chicken from the aforesaid showcase and put them in microwave. Then, he went inside to cook naans and chips.

They have about 5 tables and we took one of them. The one next to us was smeared with ketchup and needed cleaning. After 5 min, the food was ready. Chips tasted ok. Usual frozen chips, but did not have stale oil smell. The chicken tikka, not bright orange as we often see, but yellow and gingery, was only lukewarm, but I found them acceptable (yes, it tasted of battery chicken, but what else should we expect from this type of shop?). Naan and salad were acceptable as well.

We paid £8.20 in total. The experience was quite average. I give the food only two stars as most of the food were pre-cooked and reheated on order (this explains the chewiness of bhaji nuke experienced).

We went to McDonalds on a Friday afternoon. Obviously, being in the city centre, it was busy at this time. However, we were served within ten minutes which I thought was good considering the amount of customers. The staff member who served us did not come across as the happiest person to be working there, but she did get all of our large order correct so I have no problems there. It was impossible to get a table downstairs, so we went to the upstairs area where we got lucky. The only thing I did not like about this McDonalds was that the toilets were not very clean. I tried Al Capone by default as it is only a road up from my house. They run numerous offers (such as a individual meal - pizza, garlic bread and drink for Â£4.99, or two large pizza and chips for Â£12.49), which makes picking something for a take away treat very tempting indeed.

My favourites are the vegetarian pizza and the BBQ chicken - you can also choose your own toppings, up to four for no more cost than the pre set choices. The base is nice and think but not stodgy, plenty of cheese and plenty of tomato sauce. Get the BBQ sauce on the side for dipping, its lovely - almost spicy.

I've ordered over the phone and over the internet before, and the delivery has been fast.
