Ive Eaten all over the place and occasionally i eat at a place that i know ive just got to go back, Abu Zayd is one of those places.. I have frequented this venue many times esp since it serves south Indian food. In all fairness the food esp the dosas have been average. The non veg items are not consistent in terms of quantity and taste. I am afraid that late - evening meals tend to be hurried and not well prepared.

The service is courteous but needs to improve with regard to waiting times this is actually quite ridiculous when compared with other restaurant services.

I think there is alot of room for improvement. Reduced waiting times. Tasty food with decent portions, esp takeout the quality and quantity is not worth the amt of money paid for it.

Lively, warm, wounderfull food. The meat is well grilled, not too dry. The music is wounderfull and sometimes they also play South African music. Would recommend the place to anyone. This must be the best service you'll get from a sandwich shop in Birmingham City Centre.

The staff are always friendly and helpful. They greet you like they're happy to be there, are enjoying their job, and as though you are a valued customer.

The food is always great, and the coffee is quite literally the best I've come across. Better than any of the major chains.

Hooray to Pret a Manger for reigniting my faith that good customer service does exist!This must be the best service you'll get from a sandwich shop in Birmingham City Centre.

I've nearly reached the point of giving up on this branch of Philpotts.

On the wall behind the hot food counter they have the John Ruskin quote, "There is hardly anything in the world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price only are this man's lawful prey." There is an irony to this, because while their food is almost always of a good quality, the other reason for paying a premium for food: good customer service, is lacking here.

I'll run through a few points of regulary annoyance:

1) Having your order forgotten. They ask you what you want - "bacon and egg sandwich, with butter and ketchup", and they have to ask you at least once again what sauce you wanted on it. Also, more than once I've been handed my sandwich and have asked, "does it have butter on it?" for them to look uncomfortable and reply, "um, no". What am I then meant to do? Get them to remake it? I probably should; after all I paid their premium prices for the sandwich, but I don't. I just let it go again.

2) Lack of courtesy. There is a noticable lack of pleasantries delivered when interacting with the staff. I went there this morning and didn't receive a "good morning", a "please" or a "thank you" from either of the members of staff I dealt with.

3) Shouting! Often the person serving you will YELL to people at the back of the shop, "CAN YOU GET MICHAEL?!" or, "MORE BREAD PLEASE!" (the staff get a 'please'), in a way that's just unpleasant for the customer whose face is being bellowed at. Plus often whoever is in charge that day (especially that rude French guy who I haven't seen in a while) will berate members of staff, or be cuttingly rude to them in their interactions.

4) Confusion over prices. This doesn't happen too often, but sometimes the staff will pore over their price-list, trying to work out how much to charge you for what you're buying. This is always a little worrying, and you can't help feel that the price you've been charged might be different had you been served by someone else on a different day.

5) FORGETTING BASIC THINGS - If I buy a dessert, I expect a spoon to be put in the bag with it. I shouldn't have to check if its there, because if I forget then I get to my place of work only to find that I have no cutlery with which to eat. This is a BASIC, and should NEVER be missed. Also, don't touch the eating-part of the spoon with your manky fingers! You don't serve food so don't have to wear gloves or wash your hands, so don't touch things that have to go in my mouth.

6) General uncouthness - When I walk into the shop, I don't expect the woman behind the till to shout out, "Bacon and egg sandwich!" at me, just because she knows it's my regularly order. What customer wants their purchases yelled out to the whole shop??

So I'm coming to the conclusion that I should stop using the branch of Philpotts on Bennetts Hill. They profess to be a high-class establishment, offering a friendly, courteous service at premium prices. I couldn't agree more with the other disappointed customer. I visited Zorbas in Olton and loved it - this was awful. No entertainment, tasteless food, no choice of menu, overpriced, and they never even offered us our desserts or coffees which were included in the price. And a very drunk bar man as well. Called the next day at which point the manager told me I was wrong - the entertainment didn't come because it was raining (!). He put the phone down on me, and when I called back saying talk to me now or I will come into the restaurant, he threatened to have me arrested!!! Popped into the Gosta last week and there was a live band The Benwahs on doing an acoustic set. Checked them out on myspace and they're not half bad. Myself and my partner went, it was very quiet but it was a Wednesday afternoon.
The waitress explained what Tapas was and left us the menu.
We ordered and didn't have to wait long for the food, which was absolutely beautiful.
We took advantage of their 2 for Â£10 offer. 5 tapas dishes for Â£10.
Between us we had fried Calamari, Meatballs in tomato sauce, Chorizo in red wine sauce, lightly marinated chicken wings, battered white fish strips, Patatas Bravas with cheese.
And for pudding we had Churro with fresh fruit and chocolate fondue.
A nice authentic Spanish Tapas bar with efficient polite staff.

We attended this venue on sat 17th october for my brothers 25th birthday.
upon booking we purchased side seats and a birthday package, which was to include a decorated table a funny hat a t-shirt, a cake and a shout out from the compare.

firstly the side seats were terrible! we were stuck in the corner almost like being behind the stage. 3 of the 6 seats were restricted view.

and considering it was a birthday the placement was a disgrace.

we went to the bar to order drinks and waited for 35 mins to be served with no-one at the bar due to the staff completing pre ordered drinks.

we waited nearly 1 hour before one of the waitresses came to the table to take our food order.

we ordered food for 4 of the 6 and only 3 meals arrived when questioned the waiter told me he would go and sort it he never came back.
so i went looking for another member of staff, after another 15 mins she came back and told me i had not order this other meal and if i wanted it i would need to order it and pay.

as for this so called "birthday package" more like a birthday let down!!!!!

secondly: the hat and t-shirt did not arrive untill the interval when 4 of our 6 party had left to go to the toilet etc
Thirdly: the t-shirt was for a stag do as they had mixed up 2 of the parties orders and they did nothing, they took the t-shirt away and never returned with the birthday 1!!!!!
Fourthly: the cake arrived with no plates and no cutlery.
Fithly: the shout out from the compare??? at the very end of the show he did a shout of to each of the parties there, for our group it was happy 25th to alex WHOOOOO!!

Disgraceful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My mother went to find the manager to complain, and was confronted with poor attitude and no response. nothing was done about any of this apart from a pathetic appologie!

And all of this was going on through out the entire show so of course we didnt get settled, really get to listen to any of the comedians or enjoy our night.

not one of us laughed all night or had a good time. it was the worst birthday event ever i felt terrible having organised this as his birthday night out.

as for the venue and seating well......

the venue is dirty dingy and felt like a school canteen.

the seating arrangement meant that not 1 person in the venue faced the stage as the were in lines like a school canteen.

i would not have choosen to sit in any of the seat in the venue if given the choice again!

o and to top it off during the show while we were complaining to one of the staff (which time i cant remember there was so much to complain about)
another member of staff told our table to shut up as there was no speaking during the show!!!

what a laugh!!

i would never recommend this venue to anyone and my review is honest and accurate i have never been so angry and disapointed.

if you want to go to a good comedy club go the the glee club it put this place to shame!!

This company has now changed to Reverb, not sure why its changed the name but i must say it now seems to have about 90% less stock than ever before. great shop, its the biggest i have come accross but its a pain to find and a pain to park too. Not sure why but the guys do seem to not always been that helpful. i have purchased a few bits from them in the past but never any big money items. I stumbled along this website trusted places a couple of weeks ago looking for guitars in rum. as a long time player I always like to have a walk around a music store or 2 on a Saturday afternoon. I went along to music king and to be honest wasnâ¬"t really expecting much. Got there to see a warehouse from the outside, when I walked in I couldnâ¬"t catch my breath (ok thatâ¬"s a little OTT) but this was / is a serious musicians paradise, its huge must be a 1000 guitars in there. After chatting with 2 of the staff there both who were nice guys I did buy a cracking cheap dean bass and a guitars body (they had a pile of them).
I would never write a review on a music shop of all places but this place was packed full of gear, very much like PMT but Music King was much easier for me to get to as I live in oldbury. I must sound like an employee but I can assure I am not. Go there and see for yourself, they have website but thatâ¬"s not my thing i prefer to touch and feel guitars. A client and i had a lunch at utopia the bar we found the service good and fast it was a busy lunch and we had'nt booked but we were seated reasonably quick we gave our drinks order and food order the drinks arrived promptly. While the food was nice and the location central, the service in this restaurant is appalling. We had paid our bill but had only just ordered a last round of beers and were asked on several occasions by at least 3 of the staff to vacate the table for the next customers. The staff here are rude and have absolutely no idea about customer service.
