Above all, this is a superb cheese shop, bursting at the seams with all manner of familiar and more unusual cheeses. On top of this, The Fine Chesse Company is a treasure trove of gourmet goodies from fine salamis and charcuterie to decadent chocolates and delicious jams. The ideal place for a spot of gourmet Christmas shopping although it is small and, due to its popularity, extremely crowded.

On top of all this, there is also a great little cafÃ© here. The ideal spot to break for lunch mid shopping trip (did I mention that Bath is a shopper's paradise?!). We had to queue to place our order and then leap as soon as a table came available but it was worth the short wait. The menu is simple and, as befits a cheese shop, heavy to cheese. As well as an array of sharing platters (think cheese, tapas, mezze) and tempting sandwiches, there is daily changing specials board. We chose 'Somerset rarebit' - basically the same as a Welsh rarebit only using local cheese and Somerset Ale. It arrived swiftly, along with our glasses of wine. And it was just the thing - seriously tasty and accompanied by an immaculately dressed salad.

To follow, it was hard to choose between the incredibly tempting selection of cakes and bakes. I went for the moist Tunisian orange and almond cake. It was heavenly. My mother went for the lemon tart which was just as it should be: tart but not too tart, creamy and pleasingly lemony.

With all this inside us, it was time to give another customer a seat. 1 stop shop for almost all your needs, food, petrol and DIY equipment at Homebase.

Huge car park, with lots of trollies, but remember to bring a pound coin or a pound-saver to use one. Parking is 2 hours max otherwise you get fined.

Good choice of fairly good quality foodstuffs, large range of fresh meats, fish and bakery items.

Usual isles of veg, ready-meals, bread, baby, healthcare, electronics, alcohol, cleaning, meats, pet-food, frozen etc.

Decent selection of games/books/CDs if all you care for is the top 20 popular items.

Constant offers on student essentials, pizza, yoghurt corners, orange juice, beer, spirits.

Real Italian Ice Cream Co - Ice Cream heaven by graceycakes

Some of my best Bath moments have been sitting in the warm sun on a bench outside the Abbey, happily eating some of the most delicious ice cream I have ever tasted from the Real Italian Ice Cream Co. They have a massive choice of flavours, and it is all freshly made. The double waffle cone is a particular favourite of mine, meaning you can try out all sorts of combinations. There are a few ice cream places around the Abbey, but in my opinion this one is the best by far. Yum yum yum! This place has been here for decades which must be a testiment to the quality of their produce. We also saw their van drawing up at the Olive Tree restaurant where we had eaten very nice meat the night before. We used to shop here with dad sometimes when I was a kid and it doesn't look to have altered much in almost 40 years. It's the kind of small independent shop that we should all be supporting. I hope it's here for another 40 years.This place has been here for decades which must be a testiment to the quality of their produce.
