Tagore Indian Restaurant - Spiced Hair by Rocklandlad

My partner and I ate at the Tagore 23.09.2008. From the start the staff were sullen and abrupt. Just as we were beginning our meal, I noticed a long black hair in the food on my partner's plate. I called a waiter over, who was clearly annoyed at being summoned and was rude to us from the outset.

She snatched the plate away from my partner and went to speak to the chef. Shortly afterwards the manager arrived who was also very aggressive and demanded to know which dish the hair came from. We were unsure, so the two main dishes were grabbed from the table and eventually replaced.

When we were leaving I went to speak to the manager to tell him how annoyed I was that he and his staff were very rude throughout and at no time did we receive an apology from anyone.

I paid the bill because in all fairness they replaced two of the dishes, but in all of the discussion we forgot to check the bill and it wasn't until afterwards we realised that we had also been overcharged by Â£6.

What also surprised me was that the manager couldn't care less, and was quite prepared to argue agrressively at the slightest opportunity. We also witnessed him arguing with other customers nearby. Perhaps he gets a lot of unhappy customers?

I have no idea why we stayed and didn't just pay for our starters and drinks and then leave. I think we were shocked, and quite tired actually, and so we just went along with it all.

DEFINITELY A PLACE TO BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS. The place is so bad that it doesn't really rate even 1 star.

Rating: 5.00I have visited the Lake District many times before and the Grandy Nook is my favourite tea room and somewhere I have eaten most, if not every, time I have been in the area.

A traditional tea room in every way, the Grandy nook is tucked away on a small, picturesque street in the small Lake District village of Hawkshead. The low roof with beautiful wooden beams is the first thing you notice on arrival at the cafe and then you see the cake counter directly in front of you - making it very hard to resist any temptation you thought you would be able to avoid!

All food is homemade and everything from the scones and teacakes, to toasties and sandwiches cut into triangles, is scrumptious!

This is a lovely restaurant which serves delicious food. I had the most amazing scallops and it was so good we were tempted to go back the next evening!

It is not cheap but you certainly get the quality you pay for. The service is good and we felt the restaurant had a good old-fashioned feel to it, taking you back to when eating out was a pleasurable experience with attentive staff.

The menu changes daily so there is always an abundence of seasonal dishes to be had.This is a lovely restaurant which serves delicious food. I had the most amazing scallops and it was so good we were tempted to go back the next evening!

Only your palate can describe the exquisite tastes the food that this restaurant has to offer. You can taste the individual flavours from each dish. It makes Chinese dishes tasteless and bland compared to this restaurant's cuisine. The waiter said they were housefull but we could see they had like 5 tables free... and there did not appear to be any note on them saying reserved! Very disappointing!We never got to eat!
