Silver Blades is a large ice skating rink in Altrincham. It is probably the biggest ice skating rink in Cheshire and the prices aren't too bad either. If you bring your own skates, then the admissions fee is a bit cheaper. They offer sessions for those that want to skate, as well as slots for private hire and ice hockey. The skating rink itself is in a very ideal location as it is situated very close to the Altrincham railway station, where many buses also stop. Altrincham is about 30 minutes or so away from Manchester. It is a very popular ice rink with many staff available on the ice to help any fallen customers!! The music is well paced, and many beginners and novices skate at the same time, although it can be very scary at first for the beginner.

They regularly sweep the ice that has come off to avoid accidents and if you are unfortunate to suffer any cuts, then help is also at hand. they sell things such computer accessories, black dvds, batteries, pens, cleaning products, books, sweets, napkins etc..

its probably the best shop in britain which will help you to save hundreds every year.

many things sold are 20p to 80p cheaper than supermarkets.

electronic stuff they sell are sold at crazy prices too!

i think that everybody should go there at least once a week to get their things there.

ok, some of the things are quite cheap quality but then its only a pound!

since end last year you can also pay by card. minimum spend of Â£5 though.

A very, very large Tescos supermarket. The supermarket has a very large parking area, and is very popular. A very well presented supermarket that stocks something for everyone. It contains a small section of clothes, a large range of magazines, as well as a decent amount of popular books for a very reasonable price, as well as CDs, DVDs, games, and stationary. The food is at a very competitive price and they have an excellent stock of most items. The staff are very friendly and helpful and there is access for disabled peoples as well. The supermarket is understandably very busy and there are a large number of checkouts to reflect that. It is also cheaper buying daily necessities such as shampoo from Tescos rather than from Boots as well, although their selections aren't as large. The supermarket is very large, but it is not difficult at all to locate what you need as there are large signs above all the sections that can be seen from a distance. A very decent sized bookshop, probably the biggest bookshop in Altrincham. This store comprises of two floors. The first floor contains the fiction books and many non-fiction books as well. The bookshop sells a small range of cards, in particular birthday cards, and also several calenders. A lot of the time, there are 3 for 2 offers present, even on many new releases and popular books. The shop is again well staffed, and very well presented. This bookshop is generally reasonably busy and the atmosphere is very nice. There are comfortable chairs available for customers to peruse through books. On the first floor, the more academic books are stocked. The educational books are mostly only up to A-level standard, and so it would be reasonably hard for a university student to order anything, unless it was an English piece of text. There are computers available like in the other Waterstones so that customers may search to see if Waterstones does stock their book. On the first floor, there is an area designated for stationary. There is also a cafe were there is a very nice atmosphere. I was generally disappointed in some of their sections, such as their foreign language section which stocked a large number of French text books - virtually a whole bookcase, but only about 6 Russian textbooks. It also does not stock foreign texts. Most of the sections are quite well stocked however. The stationary is usually overpriced, but the large number of books offered means that this is one of the most popular bookshops in Altrincham. It is probably worth mentioning that Waterstones have generally offered a discount for students close to the start of the university year. Instead of buying vouchers, Waterstones have cards with a certain amount of money on them as gifts. On the first floor, you can find a lot of stationary - a greater selection than the relatively small selection shown on ground floor. On first floor, there are a large number of brands stocked, and there is a lot of choice. The price outside of the discounted areas is not very competitive. Whilst Waterstones tends to offer 3 for 2 deals and other deals as well, WHSmith offer less of these, and more often than not, the majority of the books are offered at recommended retail prices. This branch is always well staffed and it would be hard to not be able to find a member. Apart from Waterstones, there aren't many bookshops in Altrincham. We first went to the Slug and Lettuce after hearing about the 'Love Slug Club' on their website. By signing up to a mailing list, you get Â£5 off a minimum Â£10 spend. The newsletters themselves sometimes have other discounts...like 20% off your bill if it's raining!

The Place: Conveniently located near to Altrincham Bus Station, the Slug's decor is contemporary, with neutral colours and leather sofas/chairs. There's also a bar area with a few stools and small tables, and no shortage of room. Things tend to be fairly quiet between 12 and 1 for lunch, so there were seats near to the windows. The only problem is that the staff tend to leave the door open, which lets in the smoke from customers standing outside.

The Staff: Friendly and always helpful. They offered to take 15% off our bill when our 2 steak pies arrived cold, and even gave an explanation (the oven thermometer had broken). Plus, they had no problem with all three of us using one Â£5 off voucher each!

Menu: Varies seasonally, featuring old favorites like fish and chips or steak pie, and more exotic offerings like tempura vegetables. Certain items (like the chips) are frozen and reheated, but everything is of very high quality for pub food, and portions are VERY generous (even the water)! And desserts are always 2 for 1 - so you can get 2 desserts for just under Â£4!

The pros:
- Good music, clean place, nice homey atmosphere
- Helpful staff
- Varied menu
- Generous portions
- Discounts including 2 for 1 on desserts forever

Rating: 2.00I ate here once when I wanted a quick bite to eat. I normally enjoy pizza, but I was not very impressed by this place. First of all, the place isnâ¬"t very nice, I suppose it has a bit of a grubby feel about it. Secondly, the pizzas were pretty greasy and I didnâ¬"t enjoy them very much at all. Finally, my last problem here was with the waitress who served us. She felt the need to tell us that she had a cold and not to worry if she was sniffling a lot â¬ not the kind of thing you want to tell customers â¬ did she have any training?I ate here once when I wanted a quick bite to eat. all i can say i will be a returning customer,thanks to the friendly atmosphere which seems to be lacking in a few public houses nowdays...

OK, it's part of an hotel chain, but believe it or not their "Bowdon" Restaurant serves food which is bloody good!
