Hidden away in the unlikely location of John Street, away from Aberdeen's glamorous West End, you could be forgiven for overlooking the unassuming exterior of Christos. You'd be making the worst mistake going.

Inside the basement restaurant, the staff are almost ridiculously friendly (and playfully mad, but I like that in my wait-staff!) and the decor is warm and welcoming.

But let's get to the main event, which is undoubtedly the food that Christos serves.

My friends and I order a selection of starters and share. The Melitzanosalata is tasty, the pitta fresh and hot. The homous is flavourful. But then...the tzatsiki. Oh sweet goodness. I frankly don't have enough superlatives to describe how amazing it is. And the dolmades....very hard to get this right, but Christos' dolmades are oh so perfectly balanced in flavour, moisture and texture. If you ate nothing but the tzatsiki, dolmades and pitta from Christos for the rest of your life, you would die very, very happy.

The main course we scarce have room for, but we are determined to try. I, filthy veggie that I am, have the vegetarian mousaka. It hits all the spots. The Boy has the spanakopitta (mostly because I wanted to try it and also wanted to have the vegetarian mousaka, and I can be scary!) which I do try and it is decent. The other two have mousaka and souvlaki, which they both declare divine.

We stagger out of the restaurant carrying an extra three pounds in weight each (we might also have had a lot of wine, which could have contributed to the staggering) Did I care about my sudden weightgain? Not a bit. It was worth it for every delicious mouthful of Christos food.

Don't bother! Had dinner there last night with my husband. Things started out fine, service was good, Guinness and Stella drafts were clean, the atmosphere and decor is nice. The food is lousy. My venison burger was burnt and my chips tasted like sawdust. My husband's meal was not as bad, braised lamb - supposedly braised for 3 hours, clearly wasn't. Would be a fine place to drink, just don't bother with the food.Don't bother! Had dinner there last night with my husband. Cafe 52 has the best beer garden I've found in the city yet. The Cafe is located on The Green, a quiet, mostly pedestrian cobbled street. The staff has created a great atmosphere for the beer garden using enormous planters full of bamboo and other large screening plants. Great value food during the day at 5 pounds per portion and choices are well considered and executed. More expensive at dinner-time in the restaurant itself. Great staff, but the barman needs instruction - mixed drinks are weak (literally).Cafe 52 has the best beer garden I've found in the city yet. There are comparatively few top end fish restaurants in Aberdeen other than the ubiquitous fish and chips. The Silver Darling is one of the few. It is situated next to the entrance to the port, next to the harbour master's office. There are good views of the oil field support vessels as they come and go past the entrance. Rumour has it dolphins can sometimes be seen in the water from the restaurant situated on the first floor of the building.

The restaurant has been here for several years and has a reputation as one of "the places to go" in Aberdeen, The menu is tantalizing and the dishes are well presented. The portions are quite small although well prepared and enjoyable. The food is of good quality but the portions are quite small. Service is slow enough to suggest dishes are being individually prepared.

Silver Darling appears to aim to be one of the top Aberdeen restaurants. Many of the customers are probably having company paid meals. I find the atmosphere is a bit pretentious. My advice would be to go there only when the meal can be put on an expense account.

We took the brave step of trying this restaurant for the first time on New Year's Eve, that bastion of dreadful conveyer belt food, with the in-laws.

No such complaints at Rustico. The food was a little slow to come out, but the bread basket with olive oil, pesto and vinaigrette dips staved off the hunger.

When our meal finally arrived it was worth the wait. The bruschetta was perfection, and the parma ham and melon tasty and well-balanced. The pizza was "proper Italian" with a thin base that was crisp without being overdone. The one member of our party who had opted for a pasta main course was impressed by the blend of flavours in the dish.

The restaurant sports a pretty decent wine list too. The limoncello to finish (courtesy of the house) was a very nice touch.....

The service was superb start to finish. Despite the fact that we were four of very many hungry people being catered for that night, we felt that no request was too much trouble for our charming waiter.

And not too pricy either, to my delight. Have been meaning to try the "Hungarian" in Adelphi for years but never got round to it. Agreed to meet my old friend Mike at The Prince of Wales for a catch up and then go for a meal. Chose "Goulash" as it was close by. Arrived early evening and were the first diners, met by an extreemly friendly waitress who turned out to be the owners wife, by the end of the evening as you would expect the place was full. Fresh bread and butter delivered to the table and the menu explained, we chose wisely Mikes chicken pancake in a cream and paprica sauce was acording to him devine, as was my superb selection of Hungarian cold meats and pate. For main I chose Roast Boar in a rich sauce which was not only delicious but extremely tender, Mike tried the Goulash and Zoltand, the Owner, on finding out he like spicy food came with a separate bowl of hot paprica and was that hot. Sweet Pancakes and a selection of Hungarian Cheese finished off our meal. With a couple of Genuine Buds, a bottle of wine, liqures and coffee our bill came to a very reasonable Â£55. The next time my wife and I eat out with friends in Aberdeen the location has already been selected. I have been here a few times and the food has been pretty dissapointing really!

I suppose being from the subcontinent myself, I was looking for something a bit more authentic!

But even so....

I am originally from the South of India myself. This place offers excellent variety of quality, authentic(I would know) Indian, and particularly South Indian cuisine.

Every dish is unique and the staff are extremely attentive. Just about everything on the menu is delicious. They also do buffet lunches through the week and the choice and taste is second to none!

La Tasca is a big tapas restaurant in the centre of Aberdeen, whilst it is a chain is still serves some good quality food. The lighting in the restaurant gives it a somewhat bizarre light, and as with many chain restaurants the place can seem a little under staffed. The best bet for value for money is a Mon-Thurs deal called Tapas for a Tenner which give you a good menu selection of tapas to pick and choose from as many times as you like until your full which is perfect for tapas food which by its very nature make the servings small. Of course being that the beach is the number one destination for families and movie goers all these restaurants are normally full to overflowing every Friday and weekend, so first tip is to book earlier in the day if you want a table at a time that works for you. Frankie and Bennys is your average American import restaurant where you can expect diner-like food, though to their credit better than the offerings of competitor TGI Fridays. Service is often poor due to understaffing in busy periods and endless birthday parties. One problem for this restaurant before you get to it is the parking, though that is easily overcome if you are in central Aberdeen anyway, but if you are travelling just to eat you are forced to park in local multi storeys. I had passed this place quite a few times on Union Street before deciding to try it out with a few friends. The Restaurant is very well advertised and is famous for the guy who stands in front of it with a turban and traditional Indian dress, which is enough to turn a few head down Aberdeen Union Street. The restaurant has a reputation for winning quite a few awards but that in some ways can be easily dismissed as there can seem to be as many Indian restaurant awards as there are restaurants themselves! But Cinnamon clearly is an Indian Restaurant with a difference, and it has been thought through, which has been its success. Howies is an excellent choice for a meal that will definitely be good. As another reviewer said â¬Üdependableâ¬" and although Howies changes their menu monthly (a nice addition if you are a frequent diner) you can be sure that what is served is good quality. The service is always excellent and their wine list has a good selection. I would also second that going in and getting the pre-7.30 dinner deal is a great way to taste some great food at cheaper prices. Pavarottiâ¬"s is a great place for an expensive Italian meal for a anniversary or other special occasion, the staff are very friendly and the atmosphere in the restaurant is very pleasant. Their wine list is excellent and the food is equally so. This is high quality Italian food, so whilst you are not going to get the portions of other Italian restaurants it will certainly be top quality. The food is pretty tasteless probably because it is cooked in such large quantities and is low-grade. Number 1â¬"s does very well at its niche, its set in the heart of Aberdeenâ¬"s west end business area and it caters to it, with a small starbucks bar and seating area. The Staff are excellent especially the guy who runs the coffee in the morning. The staff also give out free newspapers which is a handy compliment to the coffee!

Food-wise it is somewhat gastro-pub type of stuff, with a good selection on the menu covering the main bases of fish, beef and chicken and some excellent things do come out of the kitchen. Number 1â¬"s is reasonable price but its more the type of place you go for business lunches as opposed to a cheap lunch with friends.

Food-wise it is somewhat gastro-pub type of stuff, with a good selection on the menu covering the main bases of fish, beef and chicken and some excellent things do come out of the kitchen. Number 1â¬"s is reasonable price but its more the type of place you go for business lunches as opposed to a cheap lunch with friends.

Yu's is designed to be upmarket Chinese food and it does it quite well. The best way to eat here is to choose from the banquet menu which isnt cheap but then Yu's is also a perfect destination for that business lunch on the expenses! The restaurant itself goes very far back and because of this it suffers from little natural light which at night doesnâ¬"t matter but in the day time it makes the place feel a little dingy. The service is normally fairly good, but it is definitely the food people come to Yuâ¬"s for. Carmineâ¬"s is somewhat of an Aberdeen institution, it is certainly not the place to go for that special meal for two but it certainly has plenty of life. The opening hours are bizarrely short and the service is famously abrupt but that adds to the experience. The lunchtime deal is brilliant and is a favourite for me and a few friends. The prices are flexible if youre willing to get into some banter with Carmine himself. The prices are also very low, but the food is very good, classic Italian but certainly not posh dining. Carmines is best for a good filling lunch with friends or are solid meal in the evening before going out.
