This great pub located right outside Friedrichstrasse S-Bahn station (you need to cross the river) offers pretty much everything you need: beer, sports and varying prices.

Though it definitely isn't the cheapest place in town, prices are reasonable. Especially since the main reason you go here is in order have some fun playing against the beer exchange system. Depending on the current demand the different beer prices will rise or fall. Everything is announced live on screen and every time you order something the bartender gives you a receipt with the current price (as the price of your beer may change within a few minutes). For those who don't like taking risks, just wait for the exchange to crash every 30 minutes or so. The crash is announced by a bell and all beer prices fall back to their minimum. It's a fun little place to go to with your friends although it tends to be rather empty during weekdays.

I strongly recommend ordering the Koelsch Meter (=15 200ml glasses of fresh beer from Cologne)

This is a place tourists never usually come to. It's a few blocks away from Unter den Linden and Friedrichstrasse hidden away in the quieter side streets of Mitte. It's a great place for a few glasses of excellent wine with friends or colleagues accompanied by some small special dishes from South-Western Germany (try the Speckpflaumen, they're delicious!). It's a somewhat bohemian place that you enter through a door hidden away under ivy and a lot of the people there are regulars and yet very open-minded and always curious to meet new people. In the summer there's a cute little garden terrace, too. If you want to get a glance at 'real Berlin', this is the place to spend a few hours at! This is a place tourists never usually come to. There are simply no two opinions about this place (and I rarely agree with my sister ;-)): cheap beer, great location, fun atmosphere and lovely people to hang out with, just across from a park for the break... perfect.
