What is the point of going to a place where they take you an arm and a leg for an espresso, where you are surrounded with American and Japanese tourists when you can go to hundreds other places and have the real thing?

The time when French intellectuals and students were at the terrace of Les Deux Magots discussing and rebuilding the Wordl is long gone! They also want to be in better places and far away from the very noisy, polluted and crowded Boulevard Saint Germain.What is the point of going to a place where they take you an arm and a leg for an espresso, where you are surrounded with American and Japanese tourists when you can go to hundreds other places and have the real thing?

Want to relax after a long day of visiting al the wonders that Paris offers? At only a few steps away from Notre Dame on the left bank, La Fourmi AilÃ©e (the Ant with wings) gives you this opportunity.

This ex-book store has kept the book shelves and the old paitings on the wall to give this charming little place all its athmosphere.

You may very well read one of the classics (in french sorry!) you can choose from the great selection enjoying a tea selected from an extensive list from all around the World or a fresh apfle-struddel.

Not sure why I am writing up this one time cafe pit-stop, except that it remains in my mind as a pleasant place to visit prior to, or recovering from, a Pompidou Centre visit.

The Pan au Chocolat or Croissants are heavenly (I should know as I gobbled both) but more than anything it is an interesting place to watch the world of the Place Georges Pompidou potter by. I don't think any of the other cafes were better placed.

Whilst it is a touristy area, the Pompidou Centre, as written in another review, is must see and for me this was a memorable part of the package.
