Reviews for Ayza Bar Wine and Chocolate
My favorite place for lunch. I come at least once week. It's fast and delicious and inexpensive. I love their soup but someitmes I even just do hummus and another app. They have so many great chocies
When it comes to wine bars in NYC, this place is the best. Such a great dinner spot, intimate and totally upscale and chic, especially for the neighborhood.
I went a couple months ago now I can’t stop going back.Their sommelier did a great job on the wine list, which has lots of notable selections. And they have these handmade chocolates that are like going to heaven. My favorite is the Grand Cru – its just so smooth and decadent, and the top is so pretty.
I'm not usually a fan of sweet wines, but after dinner we tried some with dessert and they have this white port (never seen that before) that's really tasty. The server was really sweet and very patient with the lage group of ladies that descended upon us.
I really dig the modern industruial chic feel of the place. The designer did a lot with that small space and and made it feel spcious and also very cool. I must say, though, have to say that I wasn't thrilled with the tiny benches. I kept feeling like I was going to slide off, but I'd definitely go back anyhow, just eat at the bar or outside, they have a great patio. The food, a sort of Mediteranean fusion, is greatf. I had the filet and it was excellent, perfectly cooked and really nicely seasoned etc. Not too overpriced (for NYC) either. Our servers were great. The waitress had a ton of personality, made great recommendations and was on top of everything, and the servers who brought the food were really nice as well. We always had full water, which is one of the things I hat about dining (when you sit forever with no full watrer). The wine list is huge and the by the glass varietals are great though we ended up going with a bottle. The owner came by and talked to us for a bitreally nice guy, though I had a hard time understanding everything he said because of the heavy Turkish accent. Cool that they are so involved though.
So when a friend told me to meet her here I was like, uh,no way! I loathe that area, but I sucked it up and went to Ayza and when I saw the place I understood. It's really cute on the outside and pretty nice on the inside, and the wine and chocolate thing -- who wouldn't like that! The food is nice and there's a good variety. I would go just for the desserts though. The chocolates were nice but the actual dessert is the way to go -- they have this mousse cake thing that wow! So I'd go back, even though I thought it was a little expensive for the amount of food you get.
A great spot for a night out with the girls. We took my mom for her birthday and she absolutely loved it. The food was delicious and all the flights of wine were so fun. We ended up doing flights and then followed those up with cocktails because they had such yummy looking specialties. I think the poor waitress must have hated us by the end but she never let on, the dear! She was great oo -- let us stay as long as we wanted and was always around when we needed something. She had good recommendations on food, which was good because they have such a robust menu it would have been hard to decide without her help!
Their wine list is massive and I intend to try as many as are in my price range (there was one guy that cost $900!). I’ve tried a few so far, and each better than the one before. Add cheese from Murrays and I’m a happy girl.
I came in on a Thursday and they were really slammed. I was annoyed because I called ahead and they wouldn’t let me make a reservation/said I shouldn’t have to wait, and then I waited, like, 20 minutes and finally wound up eating at the bar. Sommelier was cool though and let us taste a couple wines, and food was really good. Guess in the end it was worth the wait.
