IN MY PASSED VISIT TO NEW YORK CITY FOUND THE BEST PLACE IN ORDER TO EAT, THE FOOD IS LOVELY AND THE ATTENTION THAT GAVE THE WAITER US, SALOMON PANIAGUA GAVE US THE BEST ATTENTION AND SERVICE PLEASE VISIT THE PLACE IS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

I lived above this Hell's Kitchen diner from 1999-2000 when the area was "gentrifying" - it was a life saver for me. Their Banana Health Shakes are amazing, their chicken wraps are lovely!
Not amazing enough to be worth travelling across town for but if you are midtown west then pop in!

So you wake up in a strange living room in Manhattan. Several hours of deep slumber having been punctuated with the sounds of an unfamiliar environment. Fish tank gurgling. Roaring, honking traffic surging along the streets outside. A cat with boundless energy skitting across the floor. And most ominous of all…booms of thunder interrupting a steady, sheeting rain.

I cleared my journey jaded senses with a hot shower and set about masterminding my New York weekend. There's only one way to start such a mighty mission – a massive breakfast. With a little help from some philanthropic neighbours and their open wifi I quickly located a well-reputed brunch joint near my weekend pad.

Giorgio's seems to be held in high regard by those in the NYC know and it did not disappoint. I wanted something authentically American, yet healthy(ish) and from a bumber menu scoffed down half a melon, fresh OJ, coffee (decaf of course) and French toast with bacon and syrup. That sweet / savoury combo thing Americans have is really growing on me. The whole shebang was darned tasty and a snip at $12. The lovely grub was washed down with some classically friendly (though un-cheesy) US service, although my attempt to explain that we call French toast eggy bread wasn't entirely successful. I also managed some flirty table-neighbour chat with a dazzlingly blue-eyed Detroit bargain hunter.

Alas, my stay did not outlast the downpour. A soaking awaits, but at least I will drench on a contented belly.

Addendum: I went back to Giorgio's on a sunny Monday morning and had a repeat performance of great food for top value. This time the French toast was teamed with a super-healthy fruit salad, as well as OJ and tea. All this for just $10 including tip. Go there!
